I got to sit in on the NCSU Citizen Police Academy back in 2007, it was pretty eye opening and cool.I think SROs should be officers that are less rigid and hard than the average cop. Being able to exhibit warmth and understanding with students would go a long way to dissolving the perception by many that cops are all one bad look away from treating you like an insurgent. My interaction with officers is a lot different now and I've begun to see that too few officers understand the importance of community involvement. Every time I interact with an officer and my son, I feel like he/she is unapproachable. They give their canned responses, hand him a sticker and then move on, even when its a community involvement event like the state fair or a class visit. They don't get on his level, they don't engage with him as a person, they just stand straight as a board with the bullet-proof barrel chests. To me and my son, officers can't drop that military style discipline, they come off like robocop and its intimidating to everyone. Its at the point now where people don't want to engage with LEOs unless they absolutely have to, and that seems like a really bad direction to be heading.

it depends on .... yeah a bunch of details, like area or city for one. When I lived in Austin, most cops were cool as shit and mega helpful with random pedestrian stuff. But then in Florida, most of my underage friends would go to where the off duty cops were fishing and get beer from them for free.[Edited on October 29, 2015 at 4:59 PM. Reason : f]

How do shootings like this continue to happen? At some point all cops are going to have to assume they are being filmed by someone with the massive amount of camera phones out there now. Even if you are still a racist asshole you would think they would learn that more than likely I am being filmed so I cant just shoot someone and make up some story like I used to be able to.
12/17/2015 9:10:00 AM
Good question. Although Eric Gardner's death was caught on camera, and not much happened to the cop who strangled the life out of him. Nothing stopped those cops from making up a story about Gardner resisting arrest, necessitating an "arm bar" across his neck shaped chest. In fact, the police then started targeting the camera man.[Edited on December 17, 2015 at 9:18 AM. Reason : No one talks about a false narrative when cops lie about what happened]

I mean maybe the guy had a gun and maybe he pointed it at someone before the video started rolling, but I didn't see anything I would consider aggressive in the actual video. If he had a gun and police felt he was dangerous and wasn't getting rid of the weapon maybe you could semi justify the first shots that put him on the ground crawling but at that point unless he raises a gun and points it at someone all the additional shots are just to kill the guy for no reason.

I blame officer 2 more than officer 1 I am sure getting shot in a struggle you are gonna assume it was the suspect not your partner. Shooting the guy in the back is pretty shitty but at that point he had heard a second shot fired, again by his partner, and having already been shot you could make a slight argument that he feared for his life at that point and wasnt thinking straight.
12/22/2015 9:07:10 AM
Watching it again I see officer 1 takes the gun from the guy early on and puts it in his waistband. The same gun he later takes out and places under the guy. So I guess it was the guys gun but still seems odd.[Edited on December 22, 2015 at 9:38 AM. Reason : .]

Regarding the video of the girl getting pulled out of her chair that everyone flipped shit over ITT...Here is what happens when you don't have authority figures at school and when rules aren't enforced. (Surprise surprise you don't see this on HuffPost or ThinkProgress).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLP1GHpijpkI'm sure this video would have gone viral if perhaps a white student was victimizing the black teacher, or if an evil racist white cop arrested the asshole in this video, but since it doesn't fit the narrative it doesn't go viral. We don't need cops in schools though right! That is the "militarization of schools" and getting physical with these precious little snowflakes is abuse! We should teach them not to respect rules, authority, and police, because that will set them up for success! Why take advantage of a free education when those "oppressive" classroom rules are there! You don't have to follow the rules, you're a victim! #Liberalism #Pussification #IStandWiththeNarrative

Damn, was that a classroom or a zoo? I just insulted zoos I would rather work as an elephant dung shoveler in a zoo for half the pay than teach in such a school Poor teacher, I felt empathetically terrible for her during the whole video
1/7/2016 4:30:16 PM
That's clearly a substitute teacher, and you got to feel for those five students that are just sitting around the room in silence while those three run amok. I'm sure they love school.
1/7/2016 8:04:03 PM
But students like that need to be accommodated and catered to, right TWW social justice warriors? Students don't need to listen to rules/teachers/authority if the races align to the victim narrative from HuffPost. Evil racist cops abusing our kids... the "militarization" of our schools... THINK OF THE CHILDREN

^That first guy should not have ever become a police officer. He was directly ordered NOT to patrol the stairwell. But he did it anyway, and he was so terrified he went in with his gun drawn and his finger on the trigger.

Technically, anything wider than 256 mm (~10.1 in) is a boulder. A piece of granite of the minimum size would weigh about 52.5 lbs.[Edited on March 21, 2016 at 6:56 PM. Reason : spelling]
