I didn't find too much smugness in that clip.
6/6/2013 9:48:08 AM
I was hoping for Stoneheart, but oh wellusually they end on more of a cliffhanger...
6/10/2013 8:27:02 AM
i thought the danaerys ending was pretty hokey.
6/10/2013 8:49:43 AM
I was hoping for Cold Hands.
6/10/2013 8:52:23 AM
i too wanted Coldhands.i too wanted Stoneheart, but it would have been a lot to stuff in the hour with the Brotherhood back in, have them find Catelyn, and then resurrect her. hopefully that'll come next season right around the time of Joff's wedding.
6/10/2013 9:21:07 AM
The Theon/Osha stuff they are inventing seems interesting, although a big deviation from the book, I was wondering how they would keep Theon in the show and more interesting than torturing him for another whole season.I don't like that they are making Stannis out to be this guy who just listens to Melisandre, in the book he didn't always listen to her, he was very conflicted, and he always chose what was just. Also Ramsay should be completely evil, way more sadistic than Joffery, it seems like they are making him out to be a guy who's flaying someone as a threat to an enemy, holding a prisoner, not doing the really really really bad stuff he did in the book.[Edited on June 10, 2013 at 9:57 AM. no Black Gate under the Nightfort no Coldhands i suppose both of those would require some serious cash to do without it looking cheesy as fuck, though
6/10/2013 9:59:44 AM
they'd also have to explain to the TV audience what the faces in the weirwood represent and why they are so important to the northmen and the watch. they've really decided to pass on explaining the old gods, weirwoods, and all of that in the tv series. so i was expecting the black gate to get written out too.

Briene's hanging is the very end of the most recent book. They'd have to spend 10 times as long explaining what happened. The Lady Stoneheart reveal is pretty quick in the books, they'll show the BWOB see Cat floating, Beric will revive her, then she'll start the mayhem, no more explaining needed.
6/11/2013 12:17:51 AM
^actually it is in a feast for crows, and since we have seen Beric bring someone back to life before, it would be very easy to explain at any time, we don't have to see him do it. On a show that is becoming known for killing off major characters, we have yet to see one of them come back from the dead, it will be a big twist for non book readers, if they had brought her back the very next episode after she died like StillFuchsia wanted, the impact of that would have been greatly reduced. I just think the longer they wait, the greater the impact of the reveal will be[Edited on June 11, 2013 at 8:04 AM. Reason : $$$]

^That is if they show them finding her body. I don't think there is any guarantee they will, and if they dont it can be easily explained at any time with a line of dialog. I just think that on a show that's becoming well known for killing off major characters, this is quite a big reveal so I am not surprise at all we didn't see it in the last episode, and wouldn't be surprised if they wait even longer
6/11/2013 8:23:36 AM
you don't think that introducing Arya's ability to warg and the return of Nymeria as important scenes? that's basically the only reason the BWOB found the body. I definitely think we'll see all of that.
6/11/2013 8:47:57 AM
I read the books straight through and have no idea where one ended and the other began. Where are we currently in the books? my wife wants to pickup from here and start reading, but without reading book summaries I can't remember where we area. (and yes, I've tried to make it clear that there are differences and she might be confused)
6/11/2013 9:16:23 AM
^^Honestly, as far as the tv show is concerned, with their need to cut out and condense things, I don't think it is that important[Edited on June 11, 2013 at 9:17 AM. Reason : $$$]

^^Tell her she needs to start from the beginning.
6/11/2013 9:20:39 AM
that was exactly what I told her, she said she wants to start where we are
6/11/2013 9:30:33 AM
just find the red wedding chapter in ASOS and let her start there.[Edited on June 11, 2013 at 9:32 AM. Reason : if she's gonna be a lazy B about it]
6/11/2013 9:32:28 AM
She's gonna miss a lot by doing that, it's almost not worth it

other characters i'm hoping to see (new or reintroduced) this next season: sand snakes, doran martell, arianne, arys oakheart, myrcella, kevan, lancel... etc mostly looking forward to seeing dorne and its related characters i guessalso i'm sure we'll see more janos slynt and alliser thorne back at the wall, and the extended greyjoy family on the iron islands.

this needs to be brought back on account of people whining about talking about the book in the show thread (which leads to people whining about talking about the show in the book thread)anything goes in this thread

kinda bummed since it seems we won't see a lot of the characters i mentioned up there^^ still excited about the season though!

How the episode differs from the book:http://www.wired.com/2014/04/game-of-thrones-s4e1-recap/?mbid=social_twitteri like this a lot:
4/8/2014 9:44:24 AM
This is nitpicky, but I think the Lannisters hair should be more blonde
4/9/2014 5:32:17 PM
You can tell early in season one that Peter Dinklage is wearing a much lighter wigSo I think they tried that for a while, at least
4/9/2014 8:50:25 PM
In the books the Thenns were the most advanced and civilized of the wildlings. In the show they are the most barbaric.
4/9/2014 10:43:35 PM
Yeah they're kind of how I pictured the Skagosi
4/10/2014 8:12:43 AM
is there any basis in the books for the Thenns heads to be scarred like in the show? I cant remember reading anything about it in the book
4/10/2014 9:59:06 AM
I don't remember anything like that either. I think for the purposes of the show it was done to accentuate the differences between the various tribes beyond the wall.

I liked that you could see Sansa was missing a piece of her necklaceand much like the books, it's unknown what the exact sequence of events is after Olenna takes it
4/14/2014 8:48:29 AM
haha, someone thinks Sansa did it in the other thread
4/14/2014 9:06:08 AM
^but the best thing about that post is her reasoning that Oberyn wouldn't use poison, haha, can't wait for his fight with the Mountain
4/14/2014 9:12:24 AM
Well fuck I just clicked the wrong thread. fat thumb smart phone problems Hi
4/14/2014 9:18:16 AM
I knew they were going to skip around between the books this season, but its weird to have them pull some of the story from book 5, and then switch back to book 3 in the next scene.
4/14/2014 9:21:13 AM
i'm glad they are doing that, it means they can skip the boring book by including everything with other seasons
4/14/2014 9:26:40 AM
I was really hoping they'd head to Dorne though Maybe next season!?
4/14/2014 9:33:21 AM
^^They are doing that because Theon is pretty much non-existent in books 3 and 4. If they completely left him out of the show after season 2 nobody would know what was going on with him and the actor that plays him wouldn't really want to stick around for the show. On the topic of whoever thinking Oberyn wouldn't use poison -- in their defense they haven't even once referred to him as the Red Viper in the show, nor have they referenced the sandsnakes, or the affinity for them to use poison or anything like that. He was just introduced in the last episode and he just seems like a pissed off dude who is probably a good fighter. I am really looking forward to the fight between him and the Mountain though. Also, LOL at Loras and Oberyn checking each other out.
