UNC is going to be hard as hell to eliminate in any postseason tourney especially if they win their first game. Very difficult to actually beat those guys twice in a row with the pitching they have and the potency of their lineup. GG to the Pack to at least split the two games. Hopefully UNC will start to suffer some fatigue as they chase the best winning % in NCAA history and that'll cost them in the postseason.

Not playing UNC that last game hurt our RPI. Even if we had lost playing them helps the SOS big time.ACC would have KILLER RPIs if it wasn't for BC's sorry ass. Kick those fuckers out already.

Defeated Presbyterian 5-1 in Game 1. Ogburn went 8 innings allowing 1 hit. That one hit was a liner to left field that got under Adametz's glove and resulted in a 2 base error with the runner getting to third . RPI held at 7 after yesterday's games.Game 2 today at 6:30.

Won Game 2 8-1. Logan Jernigan returned to close out the last two innings. His fastball was in the lower 90's and he had one clocked at 97 mph.[Edited on May 4, 2013 at 9:22 PM. Reason : english]

Left after the 7th; pissed I missed Jernigan. Having him back will be huge. Hope we can get 5+ out of him next weekend and return to the rotation of him, Ogburn and Rodon.
5/4/2013 9:41:12 PM
It was pretty curious as to why Ogburn lost his weekend rotation spot when he has been solid all year. Wilkins back to pen. Roll right along....keep the Ws coming.
5/4/2013 9:51:20 PM
Yeah, Ogburn has been on top of things every time I've seen him this year. I didn't think much of it at the time when the ruled that a hit last night but I do remember thinking it probably should have been ruled an error. Adametz misjudged the ball and got a late jump and still had a shot but didn't come up with the catch. That turned out to be the only thing that prevented a no hitter. Still a decent showing. Take the game tomorrow and we're in a great position heading into the FSU series.
5/4/2013 9:57:01 PM
I don't think Jernigan is going to be put back in the rotation just like that. Especially not against Florida State. He broke his hand against Greensboro, which was in the midweek, after not pitching the weekend series at Wake Forest. He wasn't in the rotation then for a reason and shouldn't be, IMO, until he proves he can make it out of the first inning. The kid has a lot of talent, but so do a lot of people. He's got to get it right in the head before he can do anything worthwhile.
5/4/2013 10:00:37 PM
I only remember him having two rough starts, which were both early. Rodon, too, had a couple bad outings early in the season. True, he may not make it very long, but I don't see the harm in starting him as opposed to trying to cobble something out of one of Stone/Tzamtzis/Wilkins and a few relievers.
5/4/2013 10:26:13 PM
Rodon had a rough start because he had not thrown since last summer. He worked so many innings with USA that we didn't even throw him any this fall. Jernigan hasn't thrown long enough in a game to even be eligible for a quality start, while Stone has two in ACC play and barely missed one in the Maryland game. Jernigan's starts:02.19.2013 v. Not saying you're not right about Rodon, but I definitely read an article or two that mentioned him working on his change-up throughout the fall. You're comparing apples to oranges there with stats, leaving out Stone's early starts which weren't exactly pretty. In the starts prior to Jernigan getting hurt, he went 14 innings and gave up 2 ER while Stone went 14 innings and gave up 10 ER with an awful relief appearance in that Elon blowout not included. True, Stone has been better since then and Jernigan's control has always been iffy, but I don't see the harm in rolling the dice with Jernigan (who has a bigger potential upside) as the starter one day and giving him the hook early if he can't find the plate. Having games Sat/Sun/Mon followed by Thurs/Fri/Sat the next couple weekends is gonna make us be a little creative with the weekend starters anyway.
5/5/2013 10:07:58 PM
Yeah, he may have worked on some things, but I heard that he did not throw in fall ball and stuff like that. I mean he obviously 'threw', but I meant not in games or scrimmages. But then again, that's second hand knowledge from someone who would know, so we know how that goes. You're right, it is sort of an apples to oranges comparison, but I thought it was fair because it was both their most recent starts and it was showing Stone's performance against a considerably tougher schedule.I think the thing for me is that State has seen the Jernigan show before. I was down at Coastal last year and watched him pitch early in the year and then watched him throughout the year at home. He never really improved or settled in. I think Stone has the chance to prove that, only being a freshman, and has so far. I'm not saying don't start Jernigan, I'm just saying I would have started him against Presby or maybe against Wilmington (with a short hook, because we need that W). I just think it's too risky to throw him against Florida State with a national seed on the line, and I don't think that's being hyperbolic. If we lose 2/3 to FSU, I'm fine with throwing him against Duke, because the national seed is probably beat at that point and we've got a regional host lined up.

What is the history of a team being in the Top 8 of the RPI and not getting a national seed?
5/6/2013 1:17:43 PM
Well, UNCW beat UNC and FSU is #9. Duke should be a sweep. To win the Atlantic, we need to take 2 of 3 against FSU (I'm assuming if we win the head to head series, we get the tie breaker).
5/6/2013 1:25:21 PM
True.
5/6/2013 1:40:53 PM
^^^2012: Virginia was 8th in the RPI before the tourney and South Carolina was 9th. South Carolina was a national seed.2011: Rice and Texas were 10 & 12 in the RPI and were national seeds and were picked over Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Arizona State. So the Top 8 is a general rule for the Top 8 seeds, but any team in the 9-12 range is fair game for a national seed.[Edited on May 6, 2013 at 1:48 PM. If Rodon stays all 4 years, he'll have over 500 career Ks at NC State.... That's crazy. Rodon-culous indeed.
5/7/2013 12:20:04 PM
Why would Rodon stay all four years?
5/7/2013 12:27:12 PM
If Rodon stays four years, he's an idiot. I'll love him for it, but that would be an absolutely terrible career decision assuming nothing tragic happens in the next 13 months.Blaze Tart is the best name I've heard for a college pitcher this year, next to our Johnny Piedmonte. I kinda forgot about tonight's game though cause I've been assuming it'd be cancelled all along.
5/7/2013 12:40:59 PM
I think Virginia had a pitcher with the last name of Axelrod a couple years ago.We scored 7 runs (4 earned) off Blaze at Wilmington earlier in the year.
