I'm in favor of a reasonable fee; one that restricts access to amateurs but that professional journalists can afford if they have reason enough to do so. Printing public records just waste trees. Why do you hate the environment?
11/27/2013 7:33:58 PM
i'm fine with it as long as it a 2 tiered plan. you print vs the department prints. there should be a substantial discount if they mail you a pdf
12/3/2013 9:36:43 PM
Gawd, McCrory just keeps getting hammered at DHHS (I didn't think it could get worse but it just keeps getting shittier). How long till he starts throwing other people under the bus ( I'm guessing late 2015, before his re-election)

He is trying to save face before trying to get re-elected. Hopefully peoples memory serves them better than that.

Here's the new schedule:Teachers will be making starting salary for tens years.Note that the "raise" column is relative to the 2012 schedule. Here's the 2010 schedule, which had teachers making over $35k by their 5th year: [Edited on February 10, 2014 at 7:49 PM. Reason : ]
2/10/2014 7:37:14 PM
this is a slap in the face to all of the teachers who have been "toughing it out" for the better part of a decade.
2/10/2014 8:39:17 PM
Do teachers in the real world make that little or are there other modifiers that normally get thrown in (grant money from other sources, schools with more need, etc)?
2/10/2014 10:17:01 PM
Certainly all educators will trust and vote for Pat McRory now.
2/10/2014 10:46:22 PM
that's pretty realistic... some counties give a supplement (like wake) but it's taxed as a bonus and doesn't add that much.
2/10/2014 10:59:56 PM
I work with a couple former teachers who were pretty insulted by the plan, what's the consensus among current teachers? I imagine new teachers are excited about the pay raise and experienced teachers pretty insulted?
2/11/2014 8:39:49 AM
very strange distribution of raises... without any other details i could certainly understand the older teachers being upset. are there other factors like retirement benefits/etc that might explain that cliff?
2/11/2014 10:01:13 AM
it's pretty insulting. year after year we were told if we just tough it out they will take care of us down the road... well i guess they have decided not to.
2/11/2014 10:55:06 AM
Why don't you just move to a state that pays more money?
2/11/2014 1:05:39 PM
a lot of people are. my family is here in raleigh.
2/11/2014 1:10:33 PM
Right, so you decided to value family over pay. At some point if you don't like being lied to about pay increases then you can certainly do something about it by voting with your feet.
2/11/2014 1:46:29 PM
yeah, that'll show 'em!

^^^^ are you 12 years old? There's way more involved in a decision like that than merely pay. The connection to "family" isn't just for sentimental reasons. If you have kids, for example, family can be a significant source of free or very cheap babysitting (which can be up to $10k + per year of expenditures). You also have to consider families with inheritances, moving away can compromise any access you have to accumulated family wealth. "free" houses, cars, land, etc. isn't a trivial thing to look past. Being in an area where you have accumulated friends and connections (that could lead to new jobs or whatever) is also important. Not to mention that in a country of 300,000,000 people, it's unreasonable to just tell everyone to get up and move for every little thing. Plus, college education is really cheap in NC compared to other places. It's in the public good too to fight for better, more fair pay scales, and the people best equipped for this fight are the ones affected.in 99% of situations, telling people to just leave and move somewhere else is just dumb and childish.

^Yea I'm sure those of us with a concealed carry permit are keeping cops up at night with the chance we may have a weapon on us at a park or a restaurant that serves alcohol which we cannot consume.
2/17/2014 5:30:11 PM
The concealed carry law changes were the most sane thing this administration has done
2/17/2014 7:06:03 PM
^Tell that to the people where I live. They act like concealed carry supporters will be open carrying at church, terrorizing small children in parks and gunning down people at the bar when their order isn't right.
2/17/2014 9:53:03 PM
haha libtards. So "no" to law enforcement because concealed carry was improved? hahaha. I can tell you that every. single. LEO I have come across while carrying could not have cared less that I was carrying. LEOs, for the most part, don't care about CCers. They just f'in don't.
2/18/2014 9:08:11 AM
To be fair, it was a "no" to some LEOs as a lobbying group- the NC Association of Chiefs of Police was against the law. (I said "some" because the N.C. Sheriff's Association supported it)

A cook at a upscale eatery in Charlotte tells McCrory what he thinks and then walks off. The Charlotte Observer is apparently offended that the guy got fired for not doing his job.http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/02/17/4702839/after-comment-to-governor-mccrory.html#.UwNc_fldVfE

It seems DENR blocked 3 lawsuits against Duke to deal with Coal Ash. Of course they were blocked by McCrory's appointee. DENR has become the fox guarding the hen house. Just wait until fracking begins!

i know it wasn't repealed, yet they were still opposed to the bill and publicly cited other parts they were against.but no, you're right, its a conspiracy by the liberal media (who in the same story reported on other LEO agencies who supported the bill)
