I'm just saying when you hit that price point it better have zero flaws and be a little more than just fried chicken and mac n cheese under a heat lamp. Compare what you get at Lantern vs Pooles... People are way too forgiving when paying that much for a meal.

She does a shit load for the community and hits it out of the park for what works in Raleigh I just think its over priced. I have given her a lot of money over the years and am a fan. I just feel she's capable of greater things.

Make that chicken fried and with a side dish that's around 400 calories and yes.

Didn't think I would have to clarify "heavy" but in an attempt to define it without being circular, the sides are very dense in general and the combination of the grease and fat from the chicken along the calories and sweetness from the honey make for not necessarily just feeling full but feeling saturated.

Wife and I just ate there. We had chicken, 3 sides, apple pie, and a cheerwine for $30. I approve and will be going back. We are average middle class Americans and both said it was worth $30.

That price point? The chicken is $7.50. The sides are $3.50. It's cool if you've been and actually tasted the food(not sure if you have) and decided it's not worth it. But I've been and will hands down say the chicken I had was damn near flawless. It was much more than just fried chicken and mac n' cheese from under a heat lamp. The potato salad had absolutely awesome flavor. The mac n' cheese was also out of this world (if you like a subtle pimento cheese flavor). I'm not saying it's cheap by any means, but worth it? A resounding yes.

if i can get near-flawless chicken for $7.50, i'm never eating chicken at another restaurant ever again, this is all i'll ever need. when i go i'm counting on it being near-flawless, though - whatever that means

if you don't want to pay that much for fried chicken, don't fucking eat there. less waiting time for the rest of us to get a table. PLEASE AND THANK YOU.

I was just trying to insist people expect more for their money. I think bojangles is within ball park on the chicken front and that is sad... But yeah just because you pay $8 for chicken it must be world class.... AC IS A GENIUS.

People are forgetting to factor in the overall dining experience, which is obviously part of what you pay for. I haven't been to Beasley's (I live in Columbia, SC), but it irritates me when people complain about or criticize others for dining out, saying you could cook the food at home for cheaper. Well, at home you don't get the experience of dining out-- enjoying the ambiance, people-watching, doing something different, etc. I love to eat out, and it's typically for the experience as much as for the food.

Amazing fried chicken + awesome sides - shitty metal stools = the overall dining experience.

Is that the same whore that capitalized random words in that article? I'll fry her writing hand and eat it on a plate at Beasley's.

i had a honey-butter chicken biscuit or something at wendys while i was in the middle of the fucking desert and had no choice but fast food, and it was pretty disgusting and i threw out about half of it, but every time i see this thread title i crave one.

I'm glad someone explained this finally. When I read the article I had no fucking idea what the writer was talking about. And now that I know what she was talking about all I can do is

I kind of feel like writing her a letter calling her out on being a dumbass.

This is listed as her email address, which doesn't make sense, but whatever. If anyone would like to join me in this email campaign you don't have to search for it: dprickett@indyweek.com

my only real gripe is that i really do wish that you could order wings or legs on the side lol
and
it would be nice to through in a biscuit
BUT
having said that ... the biscuit is really not needed for free b/c the meal is so filling. #wantsomethingfornothing

Thats not what I mean. I love eating out too but these trendy chicken places are far more overpriced than any other type of restaurant out there. They offer homecooked, cheap southern food but charge 10-15 dollars a plate for chicken and mashed potatoes or something. They basically are selling the type of food you would get at a cafe for normal dining out prices. Its strange.

The prices are high because they are trying to cater to a certain type of customer.. or rather, keep a certain type of customer out.

I saw several of those customers in there when I walked by last night at midnight

maybe they should jack it up to $10 per piece of chicken

a restaurant adjusting prices to not make a profit, but to selectively keep a specific type of person out of their establishment... i'm skeptical.

Their prices are high because they are using free range chicken etc.

Just got back. Food wasn't nearly as fast as people in here were making it out to be but that was fine with me since we were in no hurry.

Four of us in total and we split the 1/2 gallon tea, mac and cheese, biscuits, greens, potato salad, baked beans, and apple pie. I wasn't a fan of the greens but everything else was great. I think my favorite thing was the mac and cheese. The apple pie was also fantastic. One of the best apple pies I've had around here I think. They were out of the chess pie

I too just went. It was pretty good. I still like Poole's mac n cheese better. I got a quarter dark, tea, and the cheesecake. For a date, I didn't think it was that pricey and I def enjoyed it. I will go back to try the chicken n waffles, apple pie, potato salad, and that bacon flavored old fashioned.

I eat like a barbarian and wanted to just pick up the whole piece of thigh and eat it off the bone but in that setting it won't be happening haha. Also, I hope in the future they will offer a three piece meal.

^ I asked the waiter and he said the only thing that will be changing is the sides. Maybe he don't know shit.

I wish they would do a mix and match chicken plate. Like breast and a drumstick or thigh and a wing. Sometimes I want dark and white meat at the same time!
