earlier today i said that mentioning barnes should be a suspendable offense.i'd like to revise that to say that mentioning any coach currently at a high major should be a suspendable offense.
2/25/2011 2:05:18 PM
I'm sure that'll be taken into account. Some of you guys are real down on the potential of NC State basketball. It's depressing.
2/25/2011 2:10:39 PM
We should hire Michael Jordan. He likes a challenge.
2/25/2011 2:20:51 PM
Were not DEFINITELY getting donovan obviously its a bit of a longshot but jesus h christ we definitely have a shot or else he wouldn't be entertaining the thought.I mean yes its possible he's just using us for a pay raise, but state is a much better place to coach than florida and perhaps he's tired of missing all the elite recruits like rivers and knight who don't want to playat fucking florida. He's ready to grab his sac and take a shot at glory if we can get the money right. Its gonna be expensive though
2/25/2011 2:53:21 PM

The University of Florida is famous for two things. Football and jean shorts.Basketball isn't a big deal there and it gets very little national attention.NC State is a much bigger basketball stage than Florida. Don't get me wrong Donovan has done well at Florida which makes it even more impressive because he's done it at Florida of all places. A place with almost zero basketball history. But let's get some perspective. In the past three seasons he's made the tournament only once and lost in the first round. He hasn't made it out of the 2nd round of the SEC tournament either which isn't a great conference anymore. They're a borderline top 30 team this year so they're less than 50/50 to make the sweet 16 though they do have a chance to win the SEC.Sure they hit the jackpot and won a title then had everyone unexpectedly return so they snuck an extra one in there. But don't forget that first championship came during a year where the nation was really weak. Remember how unwatchable that title game with UCLA was? Let's not act like Florida is this place where elite recruits are beating down the door to play, it's not. Just look at how they lost Austin Rivers and Brandon Knight to real programs. It's been quite a while since they landed the elite recruits like Kwame Brown, Donnell Harvey, David Lee, etcWhy wouldn't Donovan want to come to a place like NC State where he can combine his name with a great basketball program and start landing the big dog recruits? Donovan is very much on the table. He doesn't strike me as a guy who is scared of competing against the best. If we can put the money on the table we have a shot. He's the one who showed interest in the job for god's sake. Why is he floating his own name out there? He's already paid handsomely given his recent results, I doubt Florida is looking to up the offer to retain him too much.[Edited on February 25, 2011 at 7:08 PM. Reason : a]

NC State is a football school
2/25/2011 7:11:57 PM
If Donovan comes to State then it's a 3-way battle in the triangle again. The only other coach that I think comes close to making it that way is Pastner, but it's not a certainty like it would be with Donovan.I don't know why so many of you feel like NC State is a shit job. Sure, we're close to UNC and Duke, but they recruit nationally. It's not like NC produces 15 elite prospects each year and UNC and Duke each get 7 while State only gets 1. Lowe has recruited well and he's been a shit coach. Imagine what a great coach could do with great recruits. NC State is a great job, and has the money to pay a top-notch coach. The athletic department is beginning to realize how quickly interest is fading in the basketball program. What the fuck do we need the RBC Center for if we're going to play like our home is a 6,000 seat arena? If a coach is afraid to coach at NC State because they have to compete with Duke and UNC then they're afraid of those schools at whatever school they're currently coaching. The NCAA tournament is the ultimate goal ever year, and I don't want anyone coaching the Wolfpack who doesn't try to win the tournament every single year.[Edited on February 26, 2011 at 4:33 AM. Reason : tbdv faked the funk on a nasty dunk in practice but lowe realized it's racist not to play him]

I don't agree with the line of thought this quote suggestsBut what a logic fail
2/26/2011 7:41:38 AM
so...Are there any realistic possibilities mentioned in this thread? Or would I just be wasting my time looking for one?
2/26/2011 8:30:33 AM
as your new mod, i can say it's a waste of time.life isn't about who has the most at the end wins. true success is about making these kids lives better just because they chose to play for this university that we call home and we can do that right now just by us all giving them our support. it's time to start appreciating the things that we do have and start having fun again. sports are meant to be an escape from the bullshit we gotta deal with everyday, don't turn it into something that just adds to the stress.don't worry about it, let debbie do her job.

^ if that's your opinion, Dan Hawkins has a few words of advice:"Go play intramurals, brother."

Surely you guys aren't serious?Lowe's gone boys barring a miracle ACCT Championship. Sooner you get that through your heads, the better you will feel when the time actually comes.

I wonder if we could get Mark Few

If the Donovan rumor is true, they need to squeeze as much money out of the pig man to get the deal done.
2/26/2011 11:20:50 PM
I really don't know why someone hasn't tried to talk one of the SAS guys into our sports programs yetI mean, they probably have, but I'd rather believe they haven't and after some convincing we could be laying down 5 mil a year like it's nothing
2/26/2011 11:51:01 PM
if we hired Donovan, i'd be forced to reconsider my perception of reality
2/26/2011 11:57:19 PM
for the love of god stop talking about billy donovan.i am embarrassed.ALSO, one cannot "win" a thread, much less all of sports talk.ALSO

Tubby is kind of old, and he hasn't really lit it up with the Gophers lately either. Most of his success came at Kentucky, where he probably had his choice of which recruits he wanted. He's got an overall track record of success though and he'd definitely be a step up from where we are now.

terrible recruiter.
