1/2/2011 6:40:09 PM
And 14th!
1/2/2011 6:41:02 PM
it needs to stay cold for a while for anything to have a chance at sticking.... these high temps have probably warmed the ground up quite a bit

1/3/2011 9:00:35 AM
aww
1/3/2011 5:20:40 PM
1/3/2011 5:33:23 PM
No. If it's cold enough to snow it will stick. Ground temps are sufficiently cool.

Tomorrow night?Friday morning?Sunday-Tuesday?

hopefully a "dusting" doesn't turn into 2 feet. http://www.wral.com/weather/story/8881726/
1/5/2011 8:53:23 AM
bump for monday/monday night
1/6/2011 7:29:52 AM
Fingers crossed!
1/6/2011 8:49:15 AM
F that noise. I got a foot with the last one. I'm over this snow business.PS - GFS is hinting at it first, which means we will see cold rain.
1/6/2011 8:59:51 AM
no, i want the same thing we got on christmas day night and the day after christmas...because THAT came when i was already off of work...if i'm gonna have snow like that, i would sincerely appreciate it getting me out of going to work without the necessity of taking a vacation day
1/6/2011 9:10:15 AM
Yeah and I was in south charlotte so I didn't get much to play with down there
1/6/2011 9:26:44 AM
^this. PLEASEEEEEEE

I've got two of these bad boys in my garage that I want to play on this winter!Sadly they need either 1-2 inches of ice or 6+ inches of packed snow to work properly. But when they do man they fly
1/6/2011 9:46:29 AM
those are the best sleds EVAR!!So what do you weather gurus say about this storm system early next week?
1/6/2011 9:50:32 AM
ice would be kinda fun, as long as the power's not out for more than a couple of days. we have tons of cold weather gear, camping stuff, firewood, & a gas water heater.
1/6/2011 9:50:47 AM
speaking of sleds, where in Raleigh is the best location to go sledding?
1/6/2011 10:25:22 AM
^Dorothea dix?[Edited on January 6, 2011 at 10:31 AM. Reason : theres also some big long hills across wade from NCSU on CHurchill and Canterbury rds I think]
1/6/2011 10:28:22 AM
whatever you do, don't snowboard down the hill at the chevy dealership on glenwood-because at the bottom of the hill is....glenwood ave! and especially avoid doing this at night, where cars won't even be able to see you as they run you over. I saw this happening during the christmas snow.
1/6/2011 11:10:22 AM
We used to go sledding on the hill above the parking lot for Lake Lynn. Which in retrospect was pretty dumb since you got dumped into the parking lot
1/6/2011 11:14:12 AM
there is a chain link fence at the bottom of the hill now so if you go sledding there you run into the fence
1/6/2011 12:53:11 PM
the last few discussions have said the snow would have a hard time sticking b/c of the relatively warm ground... which is the same thing i said at the top of this pageit has been pretty warm[Edited on January 6, 2011 at 3:59 PM. Reason : yeah ]
1/6/2011 3:59:25 PM
according to what discussions?
1/6/2011 4:11:27 PM
nws raleigh... most recent as of now and last one
1/6/2011 4:43:07 PM
1/6/2011 4:51:46 PM
the warm ground temps in the discussion is only referring to the Friday event. a much cooler air mass moves in on Saturday setting us up for a potential snow event into Monday and Tuesday with much cooler ground temps.
1/6/2011 4:55:03 PM
It's coming. The only question is how much and if it's snow/sleet/zr.
1/6/2011 6:33:22 PM
Can we get some blind, optimistic estimations for Monday-Tuesday?CONSPIRATE.
1/7/2011 12:57:14 AM
PLZ SNOWI ONLY WANT TO ONE DAY OF CLASSFTW
1/7/2011 1:01:51 AM
i say a 12-13"
1/7/2011 1:02:11 AM
latest discussion says possibly 1-3 inches tonight along highway 64as for monday-tuesday, it says there may be a warm nose that limits the amount of snow and/or a dry spot in the upper levels that inhibits snow... so it could be a lot of cold rain

If you haven't figured it out, BDubLS1 is the Debbie Downer of the Winter Weather threads.Has been since 2001.

aha at first I read that pink as 4' and was thinking, "Man, I'd love to see what 4 feet of snow would do to Raleigh "
1/7/2011 10:33:47 AM
man that's an odd forecast trajectory with that small band of 1-2".
1/7/2011 11:16:24 AM
Per Fishel:

It's only friday. Fishel doesn't know

It is easier to play it down and be pleasantly surprised than get my hopes up and then be crushed (my philosophy). My prediction is some snow at first, sometime monday, i don't know a time yet. but then changing over to a mix. accumulations 2-4 inches before mixing in with rain... that's my prediction for the monday thing.what's the timing look like? monday morning? after midnight sunday? monday afternoon?
1/7/2011 4:36:49 PM
predictions!? timing looks to enter central NC monday afternoon...starting as a little snow maybe and then transitioning to freezing rain/drizzle
1/9/2011 9:15:10 AM
All I know is I am supposed to work out of the office Tuesday, which means driving around town, so ice would not be very fun[Edited on January 9, 2011 at 9:20 AM. Reason : ,]
1/9/2011 9:20:08 AM
What I'm seeing in a few places is 1-4 inches of snow (yes, I know that's a big range) and 1/4 an inch of ice on top.
1/9/2011 10:35:42 AM
yeah, WRAL is claiming a 35%ish chance of 2-4" Monday afternoon and then like a 56% chance of .1" of ice Monday night into Tuesday.
1/9/2011 10:39:35 AM
It's just gonna rain, nothing more But just in case I will take home work stuff Monday night if I need to work from home Tuesday
1/9/2011 12:43:03 PM
newest discussion (3:15PM) states snow lasting longer than they thought before transitioning...so the only real difference is increase amount of snow slightly, and therefore decrease amount of ice slightly..which is a good thing
