So today...progress was made. I ended up hounding Subaru of America via Kevin a while longer. They're going to pay for half of the cost of having a new(read: remaned) long block in the car. This ended up being cheaper than any other option out there. Also, I am retaining the power train warranty on the car.Should be back in my driveway middle of next week. Up for sale very shortly after!If anyone wants a sexy 2008 STI with a new long block in it let me know! Spread the word to friends as well.

Sadly I am scared to track it. This is definitely a decision driven purely by that fact. I refuse to own a car that I will not put on track.I know some of you will say I'm being unreasonable, and the block can handle it...but if you were me would you really be eager to but the car under great amounts of stress for 20+ minutes at a time?Maybe I'll get it back and my tune will change, but right now I can't imagine having to go through this shit again.

Read this months grassroots motorsports on a turbo time built car. Check out element tuning doing 1.5 seasons of time trials at 553 hp on the stock bottom end +40k miles only to be totaled when the spoiler ripped off of the trunk and spun the car. It can be done you had bad luck with a bad model year. I understand I sold my jeep after it spun a rid bearing (2 days after I switched to synthetic oil). If you personify cars like I do it just feels like betrayal and I knew it would not go away.

If you're that worried about it, sell it and get something you'll be happy with. It would just suck big time if something screwed up again. Plenty of people track them, one of my best customers regularly tracks his 08No engine problems whatsoeverdude burns up some brakes though.One of the main important things on these cars with track evens is oil control, both as in air oil separation as well as keeping the oil pickup covered in high G situations. if you plan to keep the car and track it now would be the time to toss on a good oil pan that better controls oil in the sump (Moroso aluminum or steel pan, or the killer B pan), and add some kind of air oil separator, the most painless is the SG or the grimspeed

It seems like more people go with Crawford's AOS than anything else. The Grimspeed seems like the same design as the Prova, and they both include the PCV system in the loop...which I thought was the problem? People seem to like the Crawford because it's a PCV delete.I can't really find the SG. Is it the Mann/Hummel one? There website isn't very user friendly, and I couldn't see a price.

^^I would find it extremely irritating to having to replace such a fundamental component of the car such as oil pan just to be able to do HPDE. Seems like a another giant oversight on part of Subaru. I would understand if we were talking about basic econobox, but this is their top performance model.

After looking into the oil pan thing...this is fucking ridiculous.

^Agreed.Def. sounds like they have a piston design problem. Are the pistons weak or the ring lands just narrow? Might not matter if they were forged if the ring lands are too narrow.

^ that's very much a subject of debate, exacerbated by people who modify their engines in a stupid way. The earlier STi pistons seem less prone to failure, relatively speaking. But when a stock EJ207 shortblock goes out it seems to be the #2 or #4 ringland usually.

Well IMHO the ej25 has pros and cons to it, its low center of gravity and reduced weight infront of the front wheels is an awesome thing but to make it work compromises were made. The rod ratios suck because the deck height is to low and the rod ratios were made the best they could be by having a shorter piston which reduced space for ringlands. It's a bunch of compromises but it works well 99% of the time.

Fuck compromises. You don't make compromises when building a high performance car.Also, Subaru isn't done fucking me yet. Today I received information from them that the re-manufactured engine blocks are reserved for warranty repairs only. My repair does not qualify as a warranty of course. They're now 99% sure that I have no choice but to rebuild the engine. The cost of rebuilding is going to be very much higher. Probably 50% higher.Seriously...Subaru is fucking full of shit.

I was checking out a 2011 STi that parked next to me today. Looks like the exhaust is a single pipe to the rear axle, splits into two mufflers, each one has twin tips, just like a Pontiac Grand Am... LAME. I think that may just have taken lots of <3 out of Subaru I had.

Lol configurations for legit dual exhaust on a single turbo car. #1, only 2 pistons feed the turbo the other 2 go out on their own. #2, 1 pipe for exhaust, 1 for waste gate.#3, twin scroll with split turbine exit too ? (which splitting the exit would be dumb and cause excess turbulence)#4, never bee done but 2 turbines spinning 1 compressor.

What's wrong w/a single pipe from the turbo to the tail, single muffler w/a single tip? It'd be lighter too, you know like on the Evo 8/9.Failing that how'bout single pipe to the rear to a single muffler that has two tips... 4 tips and two final mufflers (w/tiny piping keep in mind) each with two tips seems a bit retarded.
