Well, now our three best hitters coming in will be on the DL... Yet we are still playing .600 ball for an extended time.Pls lose Atlanta.
7/7/2011 8:09:25 AM
I'd say 3 of the 4, not the 3 best. Although Davis was doing great at the beginning of the season and he's my 2nd favorite player after Wright, I still trust Beltran just the slightest bit more in the clutch. He's been having a great season and is getting little credit for it.
7/7/2011 12:25:05 PM
Man ATL just will not lose.
7/7/2011 2:53:23 PM
Lol, the NL Easts sum run differential is +98. central is -120; west is -62
7/7/2011 3:02:55 PM
There's still plenty of time, if we can keep this level of play up and then beat the Braves ourselves (with help from the Phillies), the wildcard could happen.I don't think it will though.Interesting stat of the day: Dillon Gee (8-2, 3.47) is 7-0 with a 2.48 ERA in 10 starts within the NL.[Edited on July 7, 2011 at 5:18 PM. 7/7/2011 5:15:43 PM
F'd in the A by that same fucking ump again. WTF? These plays aren't even close.[Edited on July 7, 2011 at 10:44 PM. Reason : x]
7/7/2011 10:44:44 PM
LOL at Mets fans getting their hopes up. Too bad you are chasing arguably the two best teams in MLB.
7/7/2011 11:06:40 PM
the Braves are better than the Yankees and Red Sox?
7/7/2011 11:09:28 PM
^ At this point in the season, it is worth deabte. Braves have better pitching than both teams and it is not even that close. The Braves offense is obviously worse than the Yanks or Sox, but some of that is due to Heyward, Prado, and Chipper missing games and Uggla being retardedly bad. At the end of the season, both the Yanks and Red Sox will be the better than the Braves.
7/7/2011 11:14:30 PM
well the Mets are clearly in the best NL division, and the Phillies are easily the best NL team, so its definitely an uphill struggle to reach the postseason, especially with Reyes' questionable health]
7/7/2011 11:16:43 PM
7/8/2011 12:45:05 AM
Costas AND Michaels announcing tonight? Are you kidding me? Are you FUCKING kidding me?For the uninformed, this is the baseball equivalent of Alexis Texas and Jayden James kneeling between your legs and licking your milky way dick vein at the same timeI had plans and a place to be, but not anymore
7/8/2011 7:29:55 PM
^hahaha. love the comparison.
7/8/2011 7:30:51 PM
Not a huge fan of Alexis Texas. I'm a boob guy. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a great ass, but just not a porn star of choice if we're going down that road.Nice to hear Al Michaels call the Pagan shot on SNY though.
7/9/2011 12:04:18 AM
Wright, Davis and Reyes are all expected back within 3 weeks now. Unfortunately, I just don't see any way back with Atlanta/Philly being so damn good...
7/10/2011 10:08:18 AM
When all 3 are back you have to think they will find a way to leave Murphy in the lineup, right? 2B?
7/11/2011 4:16:39 PM
I put it in the MLB thread, but it makes sense here, too, obviously.K-Rod traded to the Brewers.http://tinyurl.com/5rvytwc
7/13/2011 12:31:54 AM
To me this sounds like a season forfeit to be able to resign Reyes. Beltran will probably be next.
7/13/2011 4:20:30 AM
^Not necessarily a season forfeit...K-Rod was way overpaid and if he reaches a certain threshold (maybe 55 appearance, or 55 saves, or something) his player option for the next year kicks in (17.5 mill). So this appears to be a wise financial move, not necessarily the Mets throwing in the table to resign Reyes.
7/13/2011 9:31:12 AM
I think Beltran is gone to SF, with Bochy carressing his cock by taking him over McCutchen, then deep throating him by batting him #2. Probably for a few B level prospects. Reyes, I think now, is better than 50/50 to stay and resign, probably for Crawford money +.
7/13/2011 9:33:08 AM
Hearing rumors that Zach Wheeler could be the guy to come over in a Beltran trade. 55th ranked prospect by BA. I'd take that in a heartbeat if we do trade him...
7/13/2011 12:47:56 PM
I've heard a lot of people saying Wright should be traded to free up payroll...but I think the Mets need to do everything possible to keep that infield intact (Davis, Murphy, Reyes, Wright). All homegrown, all excellent players.
7/13/2011 1:09:06 PM
Love the idea here: let's trade away these bad contracts to make room for a new bad contract
7/13/2011 1:45:21 PM
LOL, 7-0 Mets on Hamels. Guy can NOT beat the Mets for some reason.Oh yeah, our four best hitters aren't playing.
7/16/2011 6:00:19 PM
hey, the Mets are good for something aside from providing a place for Larry Jones to shit on
7/16/2011 6:07:07 PM
Willie Harris batted third today.Willie. Harris.
7/17/2011 6:50:29 PM
Dan Uggla has a Willie Harris poster in his locker. He dreams of being the hitter Willie Harris is.
7/17/2011 7:21:38 PM
Mets are steadfast on getting a top prospect back for Beltran since they'll pay all his money owed. Asking Dom Brown from Philly, Josh Reddick from Boston or Zach Wheeler from SF.
7/19/2011 6:43:25 PM
Reyes back in the lineup tonight...
7/19/2011 6:56:51 PM
Isringhausen got the save tonight...I have no idea, but I would guess he's probably gone the longest between saves with one team. His last save as a Met, prior to tonight, was back in July of 1999
7/19/2011 10:02:32 PM
From today's NY Post on a Beltran to Braves trade:
7/22/2011 11:59:58 AM
Not a huge Minor fan but if we can't pry Wheeler from SF whatever... Though I still think Bochy will pressure Sabean enough to make that happen. Also, welcome back DW..
7/22/2011 4:55:35 PM
i don't want to see beltran on the phillies or braves unless we get a phenomenal package in return
7/23/2011 1:07:01 AM
what kind of package?
7/23/2011 7:51:20 AM
^^Yeah I'm not really fan of trading within the division...but if trading Beltran to PHI or ATL means resigning Reyes then I'm for it.
7/23/2011 11:10:51 AM
^^a huge boost to the farm system...atlanta has some pretty damn good prospects to be considered
7/24/2011 8:01:04 AM
I like how teams are trying to play Sandy Alderson for a fool. No one thinks a team like the Giants is REALLY favoring BJ Upton to solidify their lineup. Don't you have to actually be able to hit to improve an offense?[Edited on July 26, 2011 at 7:18 PM. Reason : haha, how are the Reds so bad at catching a baseball.]
7/26/2011 7:15:42 PM
Sounds like Zach Wheeler, SF pitching prospect, to the Mets for Beltran...
7/27/2011 3:42:55 PM
^^ correct!Paying $4m of the $6m owed. Wheeler is legit. Mets have two Top 35 pitching prospects now with Harvey.:
7/27/2011 3:46:34 PM
4 game sweep of the Reds on the road...It'd be nice if the Braves would go in a slump.
7/28/2011 9:45:54 PM
5 in a row.4 games over .500.Easy schedule the next few weeks. Still need some help that we aren't getting against Atlanta..
7/29/2011 10:04:46 PM
Damn David Wright has been torrid since coming off the DL.
7/29/2011 10:13:46 PM
Wright is proving that the team needs him as much as they need Reyes. A month ago it sounded like it was going to be one or the other, but they HAVE to keep both for next season, right? I'm not sold on our chances of catching the Braves but all we need is help in the rotation and bullpen and this is a contender for next year already. Then again, if we somehow manage to sweep the Braves next weekend it could be a different story.
7/30/2011 2:17:09 AM
Wow...over this 5 game win streak the team is hitting .435 with RSIP in 62 ABs.
7/30/2011 1:41:36 PM
It's so cute that you guys think the Mets are still in the playoff chase
7/30/2011 1:47:28 PM
^I don't necessarily think we are in the playoff race (however, 6.5 out is not at all insurmountable...Mets fans of all people should know that) but we are playing very good baseball as of late and just got Wright back. Still, we've got a ways to go. But the team's play of late is encouraging.
7/30/2011 3:17:23 PM
Being 6.5 out isn't the problem. It's that the Mets are in fifth place in the wildcard trailing teams they won't play again. They can sweep the Braves, and get within 3 or 4 of them, but they'll still be behind too many teams.Mets have the 4th-best July record in the NL East btw
7/30/2011 3:23:06 PM
Mets website is listing Davis as likely not coming back this season, I don't see us making it without him especially with Beltran gone. Santana still has almost a month to go.
7/30/2011 3:38:39 PM
^^ that would be a bigger deal if there was a larger gap between the teams they are chasing. Tomorrow they could wake up and be behind the Braves and Diamondbacks and that's it (especially with the Cards giving up 5 in the first inning to the lowly Cubs).I highly doubt they have what it takes to catch Atlanta because the Braves pitching won't allow them to go on an extended losing streak but the Mets are 100% in the race, whatever that means.
7/30/2011 4:45:55 PM
^Pretty much agreed. I don't see us making the playoffs (read: catching the Braves). Our pitching is too streaky and theirs is too consistent.
7/30/2011 4:56:33 PM
