Man, I was planning something huge on one of my SP maps and this kind of kills that idea... The mountaintop cabin I'd built was already above the clouds, and it was just supposed to be a base level.

The lag issue should be fixed soon. The box memory will be tripled sometime in the next 12 hours.



Also, 2 things to help for people that don't know:

1) Don't run with viewing distance/fog set to max in SMP; go one level down. For some reason this causes a lot of lockups.

2) Don't lay down minetracks anywhere. There's a bug right now where they cause memory leaks.

To clarify the whole whitelist situation.

If you can log into the server and see things, you are on the whitelist. You must then be given build access to modify the world. Either can be done by anyone that is a mod.

I'll give some more people mod access soon. I want to get the lag taken care of first

Yeah it'll work. Most of those little bugs are caused by the way Notch has server/client data set up atm. Inventory, durability, item manipulation, etc are all client-side.

They tend to hang around torches at night.... fencing in a bunch of land and laying torches around will make them spawn there.. I usually end up massacring them all for supplies anyways, and don't really need them to stick around permanently, so I don't know if they will

Animals also seem to spawn only on dirt. I haven't seen any animals on the upper tiers of my stone Orthanc Tower, but I have a multi-platform tower in my spawn base that's made of dirt. Animals will spawn on the upper tiers of that. Every now and then one will wander off an upper platform and kill itself. I'll be at my workbench and it will rain a sheep or a cow.
