Except probably 95% of TVs have a USB port now. Just bring the cable and plug it in. Easy. Although I do agree charging over HDMI would be way better.[Edited on July 24, 2013 at 7:33 PM. Reason : s]

i don't think it's actually an issue of charging, just powerand i'm fairly certain it can be powered by an HDMI port, depending on the version and TV

^What are you basing that on? The 2-3 articles I've skimmed haven't mentioned that at all. Here's an article detailing streaming. It looks like there's no device to device streaming and all of it is just telling the chromecast what to download from the internet. http://www.theverge.com/2013/7/24/4554130/google-chromecast-vs-apple-airplay-how-do-they-compare]

I would take that chart with a grain of salt. Google is working with Hulu to add Hulu Plus. I'm pretty positive all the others will be added shortly. That happens with any new device like this. Plus that is comparing a $99 Apple TV to a $35 dongle?^That's good to know. [Edited on July 24, 2013 at 8:18 PM. Reason : ^]

I'd rather have a device that plays everything for me via a remote then something I have to stream. I'm not 100% familiar with airplay (it's been a while since I've used it) but doesn't it require streaming from the phone? So you can't use the phone? With this the Android phone or client is simply the remote that kicks off the content. You sit down on the coach and kick off a Netflix movie and then you have full use of your phone. The reason I've never used airplay is because you're actually streaming it from a phone. That seems inefficient. Similar to how I have an XBMC remote on my phone so when I walk in the door all I have to do is click play a movie on my phone XBMC remote and it starts playing on XBMC on the tv.

Isn't airplay streaming from a device (phone) to a streamer (dongle)? Isn't the Chromecast just a device that plays content to a tv and uses a phone, computer, browser, etc as a remote? Aren't these two entirely different things?

You're right. Long day. I didn't read the previous page. I always have faith in you to sum up the prior argument for me. I see your point though.

Chromecast API is open to the public, so they can take it and expand the functionality to whatever the fuck they feel like.

For 35 bucks I'll buy one. I'd like if it eventually supported DLNA content. Never bought a roku or anything, I currently use my ps3 to play shows I download on my computer. Hopefully the api will open that door up (or is it already there and I'm stupid)

Ordered one. Hoping the same.

http://www.droid-life.com/2013/07/25/tip-you-can-play-local-video-files-through-chromecast/Not quite DLNA, but effectively accomplishes the same thing. The thing is basically a beta device at this point, functionality and support will only get better.

^That's really awkward, hopefully they clean it up a bit.

No more 3 months free Netflix so I guess I will pass for now. That was the only real allure for me since I have a laptop I don't use for anything but streaming on my tv.

I've grabbed one and will play with the SDK, ultimate goal being to write some stuff for it that allows me to use it as a remote viewer for all of my media.

Mine should be delivered today. At the very least I think I'll be able to take my PS3 back out of the living room and let my roommate/guests use netflix on this thing.

Just hooked mine up. Pretty impressive...especially for the price. HDMI-CEC worked off the bat. It's going to be fun interrupting my roomate's TV watching with random YouTube videos without touching the remote. It looks like videos can be queued up from the YouTube app from multiple devices.I'll be really happy if/when they integrate Spotify.
