So how do the tickets to the Galaxy showings work? I know they're first come first serve but is there a particular time they start handing them out?
11/12/2010 2:31:27 PM
^I've gotten there around 9 both nights and had no problem getting a ticket. I assume you could probably get them in advance of the showing too (I remember people posting earlier in this thread about getting them a day or two before the first screening). The crowd usually ramps up right around 9:30-9:40, which can be a bit of a pain since the tickets are handed out at the concession stand, so you have a double line of people trying to get tickets + concession buyers.

it's free isn't it?(otherwise wouldn't there be legal issues?)
11/14/2010 10:42:25 PM
So Shane is PISSED!
11/14/2010 11:06:11 PM
I think I'm going to be about that pissed after the next 3 episodes end and we have to wait months before more new ones...
11/14/2010 11:12:07 PM
not real impressed with tonight's episode. too slow, not enough story progression
11/14/2010 11:27:50 PM
11/14/2010 11:56:44 PM
i also don't like the cliched bad guys. Couldn't you cause the necessary drama in much more believable ways?
11/15/2010 12:23:06 AM
Tonight's episode sucked. There was almost zero plot progression, the zombies that were in the episode felt like an afterthought, and the stupid ass contrived drama is just weak. Is a zombie apocalypse not enough of a plot vehicle? Do you really need over the top racists and inbred wife beaters to spice the plot up? This episode is inexcusable for a six part series. I hope this gets better because this show started strong and has been sliding ever since.
11/15/2010 12:38:06 AM
Well, you definitely need drama that comes from a source other than the zombies. What made 28 Days Later so excellent in my opinion wasn't the great cinematography or the new twist on zombies, it was the reasonable, well-explained conflict with the military guys. They weren't just, "Let's steal some sex slaves!" There was a legitimate, even practical rationale -- morale was breaking down, the troops were becoming suicidal, and the major was so devoted to them that he took a turn into crazytown. So no, a zombie apocalypse alone isn't an adequate plot vehicle. But while I'm still immensely enjoying the series, the human villains need work. I'm hopeful for the racist now that he's gone from being a cookie-cutter asshole to being somebody who has clearly lost his shit. There's potential there. I'm tentative about Grimes' wife. So far she has come across as being nothing but a bitch, and that makes it hard to understand why the hell there are two guys willing to put up with her shit. This episode added some softness and so maybe there's a path for development, maybe a little empathy.I like the Asian guy. I like Shane -- he's understandable, and he's the only one in his little group that seems to have any brains or leadership ability. I generally like the old guy but was a little taken aback when he went from being an educated, reasonable-sounding man to someone who was all pissed off and demanding on the subject of tools.

I went to Galaxy with a few friends who hadn't seen the first two episodes. They were expecting lots of gore. They were disappointed with this episode. I am enjoying it so far. Glad to see Galaxy is doing this every week.
11/15/2010 4:26:18 AM
good episode i thought; it was quite different than the other episodes where they focused a lot on the zombie aspect. this one focused more on the human aspect which i thought was a nice touch. Rick's wife i am still not a fan of. she is a whorish bitch IMO and if only Rick knew what had happened between her and his best friend/partner since he has been gone. as for the other characters, more cliches but that doesn't really bother me like it does with everyone else it seems. cliches exist for a reason because that's what our society is made up of. i feel the show is just trying to be realistic as much as possible regarding society classes.one question i had was with the guy left on the roof. why saw his entire hand off? why not saw the handcuffs or the pipe bracket he was handcuffed to? or worst case, saw only his thumb off so he could slide his hand out? and correct me if i'm wrong, but if one were to saw his hand off, wouldnt the person bleed out before he got anywhere close to getting all the way through? i would think the person would pass out from the sheer pain and then bleed out while passed out. that part seemed really far-fetched for me.
11/15/2010 9:14:10 AM
^^I think last night's "You told me he was dead" line from the wife is setting her up to be a more sympathetic character. At first it looked like she skipped town with her man in the hospital and not so much as a forwarding address for him to go on, now there's the intrigue of accidental affair, unconfessed infidelity, and increasingly unpredictable Shane. I sort of hope the gang members go the way of the prisoners from Y: The Last Man. They were prisoners to be sure, but they mostly wanted to be left alone now that the status quo had changed. Rather than using it as a free-for-all they were self-governing, mostly harmless folks. I agree about the zombies being an afterthought. When they ran from the building it had been overrun. There were several zombies in the stairwell trying to get onto the roof. Then upon their return we see one zombie in the store and then no others?
11/15/2010 9:15:37 AM
^To address that, and a tiny spoiler if you didn't watch last night's episode(shouldn't be reading this thread anyway if you didn't):Well in the case of the building, they were being drawn there because the survivor was on the roof, so maybe when he left, they just found their way back down.Which should be interesting because cutting off his hand, he'd likely bleed out very quickly and there would be a nice blood trail they'd be able to follow to find out where he went. And yes, I felt more sympathetic for his wife when I heard that line and I was already questioning the Shane character and now he seems even a little more off.

Also managed to win another prize @ the galaxy last night...3 weeks in a row
11/15/2010 11:01:13 AM
I'd say we're supposed to suspend belief and accept that desperation/adrenaline powered him through. I'm actually more interested in him as a character now because he's likely even more unpredictable and has a huge chip on his shoulder about being left to die. I appreciate also that the brother isn't made out -- at least not yet -- to be as far gone and racist as he was/is.
11/15/2010 11:07:10 AM
Sawing your own limb off to escape has been done before... In this case, I'm guessing he panicked when he couldn't cut through the handcuffs fast enough. He was already going kinda crazy, so it's not too far-fetched to think he would resort to that.
11/15/2010 11:22:15 AM
Also enjoyable: Seeing Shane take every ounce of his frustration out on that fat wife-beating asshole.

Well it showed him just rambling crazily on the roof for a few minutes. After being severely dehydrated and probably sunburned and with the imminent threat of zombies right at the door (he probably didn't know it was chained shut) he wanted to get away as quickly as possible without thinking straight.
11/15/2010 12:31:16 PM
Two moments that were worth the price of admission:1) The faces of Shane and Lori as Rick walked up for the first time.2) Daryl: "Choose your words carefully." Shane: "Oh I did, douche bag is what I meant."
11/15/2010 12:33:27 PM
Sucks that there are only 3 more episodes for now

he had the belt to use as a tourniquet. I want to love this show, but so far i simply like it. :/
11/15/2010 6:55:10 PM
Chick is banging some other dude 1 month max after finding out he is dead? She's a whore. Also, the redneck characters in this show make Georgia look stupid. The wife beater, the racist brothers, and the wife beater's retarded family. This show is emphasizing the thing I hate most about survival type shows -- completely irrational characters. Is this really the best way for the writers to create drama?
11/15/2010 7:43:30 PM
While I do somewhat agree, how many rational people do you know period? Your average person isn't too smart, doesn't have the greatest self control, and isn't really all that good at logical reasoning to start with. Now throw in a completely fucked up situation and how do you think people would behave?
11/15/2010 8:05:28 PM
Plenty of people have been caught in weird situations with random people and they weren't nearly as fucked up weird. It just kind of makes it unbelievable. I'd just like to see people who have more of a rational trip into inhumanity, not ones that just start there.
11/15/2010 8:22:49 PM
^^This.
11/15/2010 8:26:15 PM
I don't get what's so irrational about the characters.A racist hillbilly who can do a few things well? I know someone like that.
11/15/2010 10:48:12 PM
Well I DVR'd the first 2 episodes and sat down to watch them last night. Really fucking loved them, and then started up the 3rd while it was still recording. So far I really like it. And I think watching it all at once was a lot better. After reading this whole thread and completely avoding any of the trailers and ads for it (since I knew I wanted to see it anyways) made it that much more interesting. Plus not having read the backstory, I'm a complete n00b to the storyline.I have seen Shaun, Zombieland, Dead Set, and a few others. I actually prefer the zombie development in this instead of the HOLY SHIT OMG Zombies everywhere! that you get from some of the more old school movies. But I guess I need to see 28 Days Later. Seen that referenced several times and have yet to check it out.
11/15/2010 10:52:52 PM
Some of the stuff in this episode didn't sit well with me. Not in any particular order: the old guy getting all bent out of shape over a tool; the wife beating hill billy (though did love seeing the shit beat out of him); the cop making up several other reasons to try and make like he needed to go back to the city...maybe some others. It was okay overall. I did enjoy seeing the crossbow be used for silent kills
11/15/2010 11:21:25 PM
i just finished ep 3watched 1 and 2 last nighti like it so fari mean, it is def entertaining enough to keep me watching, which i can't say for many shows at all these days!
11/15/2010 11:22:55 PM
If you think the caricatures are believable, maybe you will believe anything.
11/15/2010 11:54:05 PM
Love the show but after the next three episodes we have to wait almost an entire year (next october) for more zombie goodness. Sad panda.

I wish everyone would stop comparing this to 28 Days Later. 28 Days Later was NOT a zombie movie. They were not undead/re-animated in that movie. They had a rage virus. They were still alive and never died.
11/16/2010 6:51:23 AM
^The differences in the infected are negligible.
11/16/2010 8:18:34 AM
This show is okay and I will continue watching but I have no anticipation for it coming on like I did with Mad Men and Breaking Bad
11/16/2010 9:25:24 AM
11/16/2010 9:28:10 AM
Wow it is seriously not going to be a year until season 2? That is bullshit. If they are gonna wait so long they need more than six episodes in the first season.
11/16/2010 9:29:53 AM
Was the 6 episode first season simply a product of the uncertainty surrounding possible viewership? When episode 6 ends, I'm going to be until next October...
