Any reason you didn't go with a taller door/ceiling? Also what kind of tree is that hanging right over top of it, cause you are probably going to want to go ahead and eliminate that. Also dont skip gutters at least on the side where the door is.

garage door was standard 18x8. my tallest vehicle, the f250, fits with about 15" clearance and I don't see myself ever having a taller vehicle. I'm thinking about putting a covering on the side with the door that extends out 12' or so to park my trailer under. the tree on the left is oak and the one on the right is a pecan tree. i'm not sure how i feel about removing them as they provide a LOT of shade, both for my house and yard.

also, i thought about a lift but 4ish feet of clearance under the vehicle is plenty for anything I actually care to do. I actually HATE fixing stuff and just want to go fast but I have come to conclusion I trust no one in the area to work on my stuff but me. the last time I paid someone to do work it resulted in 2 low sides that could have killed me in different situations (they didn't tighten my rear axle nut)

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but there is no way that garage door is 8' tall. It's slightly taller than the step ladder and about the same height as the door on the side so it looks to be 7'. Which is fine if it is since most vehicles fit through a door that size anyways. Just making sure you weren't really expecting an 8' door

^^ nice. remote control fans are great. The previous owner of our house had 3 of the 4 ceiling fans replaced with nice remote control ones and they have been awesome. I plan to replace the last one at some point

^ This is the third one I've installed. The first two were replacing a light fixture, but this one was a little more difficult because there was no light fixture or wiring there. Had to cut a hole in the sheetrock above the light switch to run the wiring from the switch into the attic, cut the hole in the ceiling, hang the fan, etc.

One bedroom still has an old brass and faux wood ceiling fan from the 80's.

Garage door is more than 7', ladder rungs are 12" and there is more than 12" above the top of the ladder. The door sits on a sill which raises it up and also does not account for the casing above the door. The garage door is going to be slightly taller than the opening so that it can seal. add up all of those small discrepancies and you have a 8' garage door. It is def not a 7' door. The opening is going to be a few inches less than 8', but he obviously didnt want the standard door which is 7' tall

Ok, I guess the door is 8'. I was looking at the opening space for a car to fit through. When I was building houses I always ordered garage doors based on the size of the opening. So if I were to call my door guy for that garage, I would have told him it was an 18x7 opening.

funny story, the door was supposed to be 8 feet but I never measured it until the questions posted in the thread. it's a 7 foot door, but my truck still fits. unfortunately I do not believe it fits with a bike in the bed.

I wouldnt call it a funny story, I would call that a major oversight by the contractor. Did you get any kind of recourse for them messing up a pretty big detail like that? I would be pissed as hell. Seems as though the garage door opening size would be one of the most major details of a freestanding garage. No way in hell i would pay 30K or whatever you said it was costing and have them fuck up that kind of detail.

That and my van wouldnt fit in a 7' garage.

Talbert Building Supply in Durham. Their system was down when I ordered them so my invoice doesn't have prices. I think the 6x6x8's were around $20 and the 6x6x12's were around $25. $50 for delivery, I think the total was like $600 for 12 of each.

I still have 2 of the 12' left with no real use for them if anybody wants to take them off my hands.

Nah, I'm nailing it and glueing at the joints. Those polls are just to hold it in place to check the fit and to lift long runs since I'm going it alone.

Thanks. It wasn't too bad a job really, took my FIL and I like half a day and only cost about $100 in materials.

Got everything from Lowe's. The framing is 2x2's attached to the deck supports with the lattice attached to the back side of the 2x2's. For the side with the door we added a vertical 2x4 on either side of the door buried into the ground and attached to the deck frame at the top.

This is a small display table i made; The lighter colored wood is reclaimed old-growth fir. Ive been getting into finer woodworking and this was a good skill-building project (I don't know why the photo uploads rotated ???)

Took about 4-weeks, did all the work ourselves including tiling, fixtures, and hardware (except for electrical rough-in, plumbing & drywall)... pretty much the first 2-weeks (after work & weekends) was demolition as we had some VCT on nice cutback adhesive (asbestos) most-likely

i used to have a bathroom with that exact layout except it was slightly bigger so it had a bigger counter/sink area

in the original pics you don't notice the moulding details on the window & door. i had to go back twice to see if you added that in or if it was already there in the original

yea, it's a traditional craftsmen bungalow so i didn't want to mess with the beautiful woodwork. living in a craftsmen bungalow we wanted to make it modern (with modern conveniences) but stay true to original time period, hence the octagon floor, subway tile, black stripes, pedestal sink, etc. the house has some great built-in millwork and molding, we just patched some divots and painted them.

We're going to lay it horizontally along a short wall in our bonus room upstairs that has slanted ceilings. We haven't made the design yet, but my husband is going to go through and do that. We want it slightly deeper, so that we can use it as a TV stand or a bench if we wanted to. I think we're going with a cubby size of about 1 1/2 square foot each, with a 2 1/2 foot depth, or something along those lines. We don't have the plans yet, but we'd be happy to share them when we're done, if this is the kind you're wanting (and not the one with multiple layers, etc).

Ha! I actually built one of these for my wife just yesterday, and used these plans! It only took about an hour and a half. I'll try to post some pics, pre-wood filler and paint, then once the wifey paints it.

I'm sure the storage is handy, but I think it looked better before.

Still, good work and sweet project, just a different preference I suppose.

(And I think they make stuff specifically for removing grout haze, I'd check home depot or something)
