How good are your tires, that could be a scary ride.I'm going to snowshoe friday morning around 9...though depending on the weather I might make the argument that we should leave around 7am.
1/27/2010 1:37:56 PM
Pat...the storm isn't supposed to get to WV until Friday afternoon. You should be fine leaving at 9.
1/27/2010 1:41:57 PM
my fate rests in the FWD tires of a 2003 Acura RSX
1/27/2010 1:51:20 PM

1/27/2010 2:31:20 PM
Where can I pick some chains up in Raleigh on the cheap?
1/27/2010 2:33:29 PM

My initial prediction for East Tennessee yesterday was 2-4" of snow. The NWS in Morristown is settling on 2-5" with it starting as snow Friday morning, switching over to a mix during the day, then back to an all snow even through Saturday. None of the local channels have ventured a guess as of the noon news today.
1/27/2010 3:30:40 PM
I'm not sure of the source, but I googled snow chain state laws and got this for NC:
1/27/2010 3:31:56 PM
http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/enactedlegislation/statutes/html/bysection/chapter_20/gs_20-122.htmlYou can be sure of this source. *Edit* spikes are allowed, just 1/16 of an inch tho.
1/27/2010 3:36:14 PM
^yeah i found it and editted
1/27/2010 3:39:36 PM
We are officially under a Winter Storm Watch now
1/27/2010 4:53:40 PM
How accurate is that picture Senez postedup there? According to that, Greensboro could get 8-15 inches. If that's the case, why is my local weather saying only a possibility of 1-4?
1/27/2010 5:11:41 PM
That's just a guess based on the local trend. It could very well happen, but things might change. Weathermen don't necessarily want to to freak people out now, and then have the models change. Usually in big events, they wait until the last minute to spring the big numbers on people. Right now, triangle weathermen have all been saying, "heavy snow" or "significant" but not giving actual numbers. The last thing they want is to say a foot of snow, and have it all end up being rain.
1/27/2010 5:20:25 PM
makes sense
1/27/2010 5:23:56 PM
1/27/2010 5:28:14 PM
I know I told my husband not to expect anything now, because this just came out.
1/27/2010 5:29:56 PM
Although, wouldn't it be more damaging to prepare people for an inch only to end up with 15?

^^ shit, where the fuck are you living? All of the supermarkets here are already out of bread and milk. if anything, I think people OVER plan.
1/27/2010 5:42:05 PM

Easily 2 weeks, if not 3 or 4.Especially since we're talking cold weather, and don't have to worry about spoilage if the power goes out.[Edited on January 27, 2010 at 5:56 PM. Reason : ds]

Did anyone get a screenshot of Greg's "Not set in stone" accumulation predictions averaged from multiple weather models shown on the 6pm news?[Edited on January 27, 2010 at 6:29 PM. Reason : ]

Why does it always do this shit on a fucking weekend?
1/27/2010 7:23:08 PM
I usually just stock up on beerwe have a whole chest freezer full of meats and other items, and 2 propane tanks for the grill should the power go out.
1/27/2010 7:32:56 PM
hurray for days without power and 13 degrees at night.
1/27/2010 8:02:14 PM
Here is my accumulation forecast as of now. It should be noted in VA the northern extent of the blue is only where I stopped my forecast it doesn't necessarily mean the snow stops there:[Edited on January 27, 2010 at 8:14 PM. Reason : .]
1/27/2010 8:12:21 PM
damn, I wasn't planning on driving home from DC until Friday night. I may need to change plans now.
1/27/2010 8:17:34 PM
Mike Maze's of WRAL latest prediction is 11.5" in Raleigh.
1/27/2010 9:30:48 PM
hahahahah what kinda STUPID local weatherman is gonna make that kinda prediction for this area?does he plan on swimming in the fountain with Greg Fishel?]
1/27/2010 9:31:36 PM
But if he's the only one right, he's the hero. If he's wrong, so what, they're all wrong!
1/27/2010 9:35:16 PM
00Z NAM model just came out and it was the northerly outlier. Now it's not. NC (triangle north) is going to get BLASTED... meanwhile, I'll be up at Snowshoe and it'll be FREEEEZZZZINNNGGGG and mostly dry.Congrats I guess. The one big storm to hit the Triangle I won't even be here for ^^ one that is most likely going to be close to correct.[Edited on January 27, 2010 at 9:46 PM. Reason : x]
1/27/2010 9:45:59 PM
no effing way are we getting 8" of snow...but shit i'm gonna go buy beer just in case
1/27/2010 9:50:16 PM
i'm gettin kinda skeered now
1/27/2010 9:51:42 PM
I'd be surprised if you got that much snow... but it's getting more and more likely you get a base of ice and 4-5", possibly more, of powder. It's going to be a disaster in terms of driving on Saturday though. You can pretty much take to the bank at this point.

1/27/2010 9:52:34 PM
There is still a CHANCE that it shifts to the North about 100 or so miles but I certainly wouldn't bank on it. This might be the one this year for the Triangle...
1/27/2010 9:54:25 PM
1/27/2010 10:05:58 PM
^^^ I can't even describe how awesome it would be if that verified

If you let your refrigerated items go bad in a snowstorm then you deserve all of the bad things in life.
1/28/2010 3:27:23 AM
we've gotten an inch or more of rain several times this season...this is just the same thing although now it will finally be cold enough.re: why Allan Huffman's predictions are higher than others - he says somewhere on his blog that he feels free to say what he is actually seeing since he's not accountable to anyone while Fishel and the government have to answer to viewers and voters.the 06z models aren't backing off on this. I think the Triangle is looking at 9-10", though any amount of sleet infusion will cut that significantly (but essentially have the same effect on paralyzing the area).there's also an outside chance if we do get enough snow that Tuesday's system turns to snow or ice as well - then we start looking at 2000 storm type issues where this whole place shuts down for a week or more.
1/28/2010 7:01:12 AM
I don't care if it snows or doesn't snow, just don't want to see any freezing rain.
1/28/2010 7:34:43 AM
Don't you people dare listen to the meteorologists. They're wrong all the time, don't you remember that? They break your hearts every chance they get and you still listen.
1/28/2010 7:48:24 AM
Thumper...whats the latest from you weather nerd at work?
