I was wondering if that one would be any good. It looked like something pumped out solely for the NY market for the start of the NBA season. Two guys grew up playing basketball in New York and eventually played for the same team, you say? Amazing.

Watching the Hillsborough 30 for 30 now. Pretty crazy. Never heard about it.
4/15/2014 9:32:31 PM
i'd always thought it was general drunk hooliganism. turns out the cops fucked it up and blamed it on fans.
4/15/2014 9:58:48 PM
Is Hillsburl in here?

Watched "Hillsborough" last night. Wow. That one sticks with you. I've read up on it but never in the depth it was presented in the doc. The pens and high fences were in response to the hooliganism of the time but whoever thought it was a good thing to have standing room only sections with fences and barriers had no concern for people. It's a wonder things like this didn't happen more. So unfortunate and sad. Hard to imagine something like that happening really. And it was completely jacked up how they tried to blame the innocent dead. Hope they get deserved justice one day.
4/21/2014 1:26:51 PM
Exactly. The documentary can't even be shown in the UK. http://awfulannouncing.com/2014/espns-hillsborough-documentary-cant-be-aired-in-the-united-kingdom-thanks-to-british-laws.htmlIt's terrible that they didn't heed the example of the 81 game between Tottenham and Wolves and well as other potential crushing incidents at that end. When the higher ups in the police and government put blame solely on the Liverpool fans, it only escalated the notion started at Heysel.
4/21/2014 1:58:25 PM
What? Why aren't you people talking about the Bad Boys documentary? So who actually believes it was Laimbeer and not Isaiah that took them off the court in the 1991 playoffs before the end of the Bulls loss?
4/21/2014 4:18:02 PM
Bc the Hillsborough ep was much more compelling?
4/21/2014 9:57:44 PM
The way they treated the family of the victims is really sad. I kind of wonder if they are telling the whole story. Like, I don't know much about hooliganism, but I have to imagine that there has to be some sort of motive behind this institutional treatment of soccer fans and their families.
4/21/2014 10:06:51 PM
I think this particular cover up had more to do with covering up bad police work and not institutional treatment of soccer fans. It was really interesting to actually see video of a standing room only section. I have read about them in the UK online, but never seen one. It's amazing that it was basically just steps were you could stand were ever you wanted.
4/21/2014 11:35:33 PM
The one just aired about 1994 Ireland/Italy and the Loughlinisland Massacre was really interesting...I missed Hillsborough.. I need to see it but its not streaming anywhere![Edited on April 29, 2014 at 8:08 PM. Reason : x]

FYI: Netflix added "30 for 30: Soccer Stories" this week, which includes Hillsborough, The Opposition, Maradona 86, Ceasefire Massacre, The Myth of Garrincha, Mysteries of the Rimet Trophy, and Barbosa: The Man Who Made All of Brazil Cry. Watched Barbosa the other day and it was just alright, but then I watched Hillsborough this morning, which was one of the best 30 for 30s I've ever seen.
5/31/2014 12:17:08 PM
^ Hillsborough was the best I've seen other than Survive and Advance (biased). All the other Soccer Stories weren't very good IMO.
5/31/2014 1:07:34 PM
I just watched the Maradona '86 one and the one about the Concentration camp at the Chilean arena during the US-backed Pinochet coup. Very interesting. I wish the Maradona one was longer and focued more on his life.

how good was the one about the Giants-A's earthquake?
10/21/2014 9:33:49 PM
^I enjoyed it. I remember being a kid when it was happening, so it was neat to see it again. I was at my friend's house at the time. We were both big baseball card collectors. Canseco and Kevin Mitchell were his guys, and McGuire and Will Clark were mine. I still have 100s of their cards.[Edited on October 22, 2014 at 9:21 AM. Reason : it was pretty light on the "sports"]

Dear Santa,ESPN 30 for 30: The Carolina Way. What if I told you that a flagship university for not only their state and conference, but the entire NCAA, was a house built on lies, cheating, and scandals. The once proud moniker "The Carolina Way", touted as the University of North Carolina's rallying cry for prestige and excellence at every level, was really a two decade long facade to scam their way into championships, elite recruiting, and building a heralded national brand. Join us as current and former UNC Chancellors, Athletic Directors, coaches, professors, tutors, agents, and players, and even the conference's own commissioner go from chest pounding and UNC circle jerks to excuses and jerks talking in circles about UNC's demise.Directed by Dan Kane, Narrated by Julius HodgeLove, NCSU

"I Hate Christian Laettner"A real title.
11/19/2014 12:08:30 PM
^^fade to black at the end, then the words appear, "In Loving Memory of Lee Folwer"
11/19/2014 1:12:30 PM
^^^I know we all (or most) wanna UNC punished harshly and everything so maybe we're biased. But a 30 for 30 on the UNC shit would actually be really interesting if they could get teachers, tutors, academic advisers, student-athletes, and people who were really involved to talk on camera. Maybe in like 25 years they'd be able to [Edited on November 19, 2014 at 1:39 PM. Reason : also, I'd love to see UNC fans react to it]
11/19/2014 1:38:54 PM
I can't wait til the great one they'll do in 25 years about the history of NC STATE SHIT when we're back in the Final Four.

Of Miracles and Men aired tonight. It covers the 1980s Miracle on Ice from the Soviet perspective, but it really covered the entire history of Soviet/Russian hockey. It was fantastic. One of the interviewers asked a Soviet player if he had seen the movie "Miracle", and the player went off on him...I chuckled.

Did anyone else just watch "The Little Master" about the greatest Indian cricket player ever? It was actually pretty good.

Anyone watch "Sole Man" about Sonny Vaccaro? Interesting stuff.

If you missed The 85 Bears Tonight then make sure to watch the next time it comes on. It was one of the better ones I have seen.
2/4/2016 11:24:35 PM
no doubt the best team in NFL history. best defense, most charisma, best fan base, best coaches. Ron Rivera back when he was still humble.
2/5/2016 10:54:34 AM
^^ Thanks. I didnt get real interested because the commercial didnt make it look very good. I'll have to watch it.
2/5/2016 10:56:47 AM
^It talked about the team, the death of Walter Payton, the causes of the decline in the Bears after the Super Bowl win, and the damage that playing football can cause to the human body. There were a lot of other interesting stories told about the famous coaches and players on the team. I was interested in watching this one because I was almost 6 years old when they won the Super Bowl. I vaguely remember everyone talking about "The Fridge" and the music video the team did.
2/5/2016 1:21:46 PM
^^^ Even as a Packer fan, I have to agree with most of what you said. I love the rivalry we have with them. I'd just replace every time you said best with 'one of the best'.
