if it werent for this thread i would probably forget to claim/reserve a ticket every game
10/4/2009 12:33:28 PM
instead of saying "claim ticket" it said "reserve ticket" and i got one right away...did they screw up and put the on-demand period at the same time as the lottery claim? (my roomate's said "claim ticket" so i know it wasn't like that for everyone)

This came in the email from Jim Ceresnak todayStudent Ticketing Questions Answered - A letter from Associate Athletic Director, Dick Christy==========================================================================ISSUES ADDRESSED IN THIS LETTERI. Student leadershipII. Email notificationsIII. South Carolina game ticket distribution and group seatingIV. Loyalty point distributionV. Wristbands and inclement weather policy at the Pitt gameVI. Section 14/15 block-off at the Pitt gameVII. Parking problemsVIX. Student ticket website problemsDear Wolfpack Students and Fans,In an attempt to clarify some of the misconceptions about our student ticket policies and operations, I offer the details below. Some are in response to the Campus Forum article from 9/28 and other points are follow-up from other student queries. While this may not provide answers for all your questions, I do encourage students to get in touch with Athletics and Student Government directly when you have a concern, question, or just need help with your account. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible and appreciate your time. On behalf of NC State Athletics, thank you for the tremendous support you have shown our programs this year.I. Student Leadership:In the past 2 years, the NC State student body has been blessed with tremendous leadership. Proactive, energetic, caring students who have not pushed their own agenda but rather genuinely attempted to get feedback from their peers in determining the issues they should tackle. Jay Dawkins & Jim Ceresnak are not alone in this praise. Students like Jeffrey Johnson, Kelli Rogers, Marycobb Randall, Matt Garcia and many others have ensured that student concerns are placed at the forefront. It is no small coincidence that in the past 2 years, the student ticket policies and procedures have had significant improvements that have benefitted all students and given you more control over your ability to attend games. Jay Dawkins' administration initiated the seniority/loyalty point system, improved gate wait times, & stand-bye efforts; followed by Jim's administration who have championed the early admittance point, the cumulative loyalty reward program, group seating reform, incentives for Pep Rallys, enhanced camp-out activites, and more. All that being said, admittedly, with any change comes growing pains. And there have surely been some of those with student tickets over the past 5 years. I will touch on recent items below but want to stress that most of the concerns that are voiced are miscommunication not mishap. Regardless of the issue, don't blame fellow students who are motivated for your benefit; blame me, blame Athletics, blame the software vendor; but don't demotivate those who are most interested in seeing you receive better services. Here are a few questions that have come our way and the responses that go along with them.II. Not receiving email notifications about ticket claim periods:We have received report after report from the software vendor showing the emails are being sent, but the feedback from our students has been too compelling not to address this. Athletics is working with campus email services to see where the problem may be in filtering these emails out. Keep in mind that the distribution schedule is posted on the website, available 24 hours a day, and that the emails are independent of the distribution phases so in other words you can just go into your account at the designated time and don't need to click on a link in the email to access or claim your ticket.III. South Carolina game concerns about ticket assignments & groups:13,000 students requested tickets for approx. 8,000 seats. No matter how they are distributed there is going to be a large contingent of students who are frustrated that they were not awarded a seat. That being said, the speculation that was received by the Athletics Department was that Large Groups won all the tickets, or the large group total was increased to 99, or seniors were not given priority for the game as they should have been because freshman piggy-backed seniors in groups. Here are a few facts...- Large groups received 40% of the tickets available, just as the policy reads that was established by students over 4 years ago.- The Large group cap is 99 tickets, just as the policy reads that was established by students over 4 years ago.- The system that was developed by students, was never intended to be a seniority based system, it is a hybrid of seniority & loyalty. Being the first game of the year, I can see how this can be misconceived since seniors, by default, have the most points. A few interesting stats from the South Carolina data (seniors won the highest % of tickets, freshman requested significantly more tickets than the soph & junior classes, their total only eclipsed by seniors). Hopefully you can start to see how this can add to the perception that upperclassmen were not given the priority they felt they deserved. IV. Point distribution:Since South Carolina, we have had over 500 students consistently taking advantage of the early admission bonus loyalty point. What this change has done for all students is further improved wait times at the gates. Processing time has consistently been under 3 minutes for all games this year and students are filling their sections earlier than we have seen in the past. THANK YOUV. Wristbands/inclement weather policy at Pitt game:Part of our established operations plan is to go to an inclement weather policy in the event of a high probability of rain. This is to avoid issues with the scanners and bar coded tickets being wet or mutilated. When this policy is in effect, we issue wristbands that correspond to a section (don't bother trying to remember your color because they change every game , and all students requesting tickets to that game receive 1 point. We wait as long as humanly possible to make the decision on inclement weather and, as a result, can't notify students that the early admission point won't be available for that game. VI. Section 14/15 cut off to patrons at the Pitt game:This is a problem & it is going to take student help to fix it. There is no way around it, we need to do better. To the parents and students affected by this at the game we sincerely apologize. Fire safety shut down sections 14/15 aisle-ways as students began to congregate in the aisle and not progress into the seating area. Once the aisle is blocked, public safety is going to do due diligence and halt passage into this area until the traffic dissipates. (After our issues from a few years back, before the hand stamp/wristband policy, you can see how law enforcement is going to be sensitive to this issue). In actuality, there were hundreds of open seats in this section and it took approximately 20 minutes to rectify this problem and allow unimpeded access to the section again. THE SOLUTION: Students are coming early to games and in greater numbers, this is outstanding news. When everyone arrives at once it is imperative that students already seated... move in, identify available seats for fellow students, and be courteous as others attempt to enter the section. Those just arriving need to enter an available row and not linger in the aisle while waiting for friends, it is only hurting your fellow students.VII. Not enough spaces in the Student parking lot:As many of you are probably aware, students were counterfeiting parking passes to get more vehicles into the lot. After the Murray State game, Fedex Kinkos, UPS Stores, & local copiers were notified of the issue and shown our parking pass designs for the remainder of the year. They have agreed to avoid allowing reproduction of these passes in their stores. Also, students having passes found to be counterfeit will be trespassed by campus police and face student conduct repercussions. Over 30 passes were confiscated for the Pittsburgh game.VIX. Student Ticket Site Unavailable:Periodically through the past 4 weeks there have been times when the student ticket site was temporarily unavailable and a maintenance page was visible when you tried to enter your account. Our server was due for an upgrade and unfortunately that coincided with 4 consecutive home games. In an effort to minimize the effects we had many of the diagnostics spread out over different times so that a full claim, request, or on-demand phase was not affected. As I said before, some of these issues have occurred on large scales and some to only a few patrons, but they are separate issues. Most of which are a product of the growing pains experienced during transitions and changes. Changes for the better mind you. The best advice I can give is to stay in contact with your student government representatives, pass issues or feedback on to our athletics staff quickly, and stay posted to new information and policies on the student ticket website. Thanks again for your support.Sincerely,DickDick Christy - Associate Athletic Director - NC State AthleticsAt least somebody is listening.

That whole getting through the gate issue could be solved if they would let the students go through any gate they want just like the rest of us. They can keep the points system, but they should still put scanners at every gate.
