So apparently I need to see this in 3D****SPOILER************Norm's Avatar died.*********************[Edited on December 20, 2009 at 4:21 AM. Reason : lkj]
12/20/2009 4:17:27 AM
hmm. 3d movies give me a splitting headache and the effects are usually really lame. not sure i'll like this
12/20/2009 9:34:41 AM
Saw it at IMAX. I definitely recommend watching it there. It was remarkable!I haven't stayed awake through a movie in a long time, and this one was like 3 hours late at night and I didn't get sleepy it at all! It's just a pretty movie
12/20/2009 10:28:58 AM
^ how much do you weigh?and/orhow much sleep do you get per night?
12/20/2009 10:52:20 AM
thanks alot ThePeter, now i saw the spoiler, thanks for ruining the movie
12/20/2009 10:58:09 AM
^^?I weigh enough and get enough exercise, and I require 7-8 hours, but I alway get up before 8 regardless of how hard I try to sleep in. I've just always gotten sleepy in movies.what does that have to do with AVATAR?
12/20/2009 11:05:55 AM
yes. fuck you ThePeteri hate tww
12/20/2009 11:41:03 AM
movies outthread is officiallySPOILER ALERTSPOILER ALERTSPOILER ALERTonce the movie is out, why look in the thread? you know people will discuss and it is extremely tedious to have to post SPOILER ALERT for every plot point. do we need another thread for discussion about the movie?
12/20/2009 12:41:43 PM
I put the spoiler tag you dumb fucks.
12/20/2009 12:53:39 PM
i look her for reviews, spoilers are fair game as long as they have the tags, but it was done poorlyplus what is the point of the spoiler he posted, he did not discuss it at all, it had no purpose
12/20/2009 12:55:02 PM
i asked a questionand i actually didnt put spoiler around mine, but i asked a question, someone attempted to answer and he corrected.
12/20/2009 1:00:38 PM
I thought the movie was great but not nearly as revolutionary as the film industry was claiming it would be. Also, I'd like to point out that I didn't dislike Michelle Rodriguez's character. I have hated her characters in every other movie/TV show she's been in, but she did a pretty decent job in this one.
12/20/2009 1:50:33 PM
^ "you're not the only one with a gun, bitch"
12/20/2009 2:34:09 PM
Saw it in IMAX. Going again with some friends but the IMAX was sold out. Is the regular 3d that much different?
12/20/2009 3:13:13 PM
^^^^^ The movie is out, people have seen it and will be talking about it in this thread. Either don't read the thread or pay careful attention to the spoiler tags if you care so much (but not enough to have already seen it?). Not that the spoiler he posted was very important, there are some plants with more screen time than Norm's Avatar.***************SPOILER***********From what I remember Norm's Avatar was shot a few times and he was disconnected from it but they never actually show it dying or dead. I assumed the trauma was enough to disconnect the operator and when he fell out of the link machine he was clutching his shoulder and arm, not necessarily mortal wounds. Plus at the beginning the commander talked about how hard it was to kill the Na'vi because of their carbon fiber bones, etc, etc. ***************SPOILER************]
12/20/2009 3:25:12 PM
^^i have the same question^cool black out trick, hopefully others use iti have also reported ThePeter to the FBI, under their
12/20/2009 3:50:09 PM
I really enjoyed it. Great effects. I do grow tired of the hollywood villians always being the dumb military just looking for blood and evil coorporations out to kill for money... but I would see it again.
12/20/2009 4:39:10 PM
This movie looks cool and I wouldn't mind shelling out the cash to go see itoh wait:,*******Spoiler*****thanks a fucking lot peter******SPOILER******now you see how that works, you ass
12/20/2009 5:06:08 PM
You guys are honestly getting bent out of shape over nothing. Norm's in his Avatar for less than 10 minutes the entire film and I'm not even convinced what he said was right.
12/20/2009 5:35:22 PM
his "spoiler" is wrong and does not influence the movie at all
12/20/2009 6:41:13 PM
it’s conceivable that maybe some navis wanted to wear clothes? It doesn’t make sense I don’t think to use the avatars post-war.
12/20/2009 6:42:03 PM
Wow the normal 3d is really blurry compared to the IMAX. It's like going from DVD to bluray. 70mm film ftw. Make sure to see it in IMAX if you want quality.
12/20/2009 6:44:08 PM
^After I saw it in IMAX i was thinking...man the bluray is really going to suck unless it comes with glasses haha.and then I thought...Modern Warfare 2 would be awesome like this.[Edited on December 20, 2009 at 7:35 PM. Reason : .]
12/20/2009 7:34:48 PM
downers:the story was somewhat generic/predictable/silly (red bird? forest animals??)blue culture was straight up native american and african culturesrobots and machines were not cool enoughcompletely ripped off helicopter gunner from Full Metal Jacketcolonel was annoyingly evilno Zoe Saldana in human form (plays the girl warrior FYI)etc?'s:wtf is so special about the ore? tell us how it's used, etcwhat happened to the mining the place afterwards?spontaneous spring water creation? I don't think soI did like the movie and once I got the gist of it (having gone in not knowing at all what to expect), I wanted it to be a 3D Dances with Wolves. Unfortunately for me, it eventually leaned more towards the action side rather than the culture immersion side. With these kinds of movies, I'm always more interested in seeing how the people live, how the world works, etc (fake and all)is the 3D really THAT much more awesome than other 3D movies? This is the first one to which I've ever been j/w.[Edited on December 20, 2009 at 8:21 PM. Reason : ]

just saw it tonight. thought it was pretty lame.

12/20/2009 9:33:19 PM
I think he's referring to the waterfalls coming off the floating mountains, where does that water come from?
12/20/2009 10:10:00 PM
^Who cares...how are the mountains floating?? haha...either way i don't care...i think its a really awesome world and I don't need a scientific explanation as to why its so awesome.
12/21/2009 12:17:31 AM
Just got back from seeing in 3d, it was amazing. I would love to have seen it at an Imax though.Yeah the floating mountains didn't bother me, could be some unexplained natural phenomenon, but the waterfalls were kind of annoying. Nothing that ruined the experience though.
12/21/2009 1:02:01 AM
Movie was too cliché, and I had to restrain manic laughter for the entire showing."I didn't sign up for this shit!"I needed to take a notepad to write stuff down. It was cowboys vs. indians with a splash of ferngully and tiddly bit of Aliens. Throw some Titanic emotional slop in there and you have the culmination of James Cameron's career. As for Norm's avatar, he wouldn't have lost his link unless the avatar went unconscious. I would assume that unconscious with mortal wounds would be death. There were other avatars at the beginning of the movie.Although I didn't much like the story, I will say that the visuals were great even in glorious 2D 35mm film.[Edited on December 21, 2009 at 1:12 AM. 12/21/2009 1:10:15 AM
cowboys and Indians both rode horses and used guns.[Edited on December 21, 2009 at 1:16 AM. Reason : It was more like Britain vs Zulu]
12/21/2009 1:15:28 AM
Oh, right!
12/21/2009 1:19:43 AM
i laughed at the part where that horse thing was on fire
12/21/2009 3:13:22 AM
When I saw that scene, I could only think of:
12/21/2009 3:29:38 AM
i also noticed the noises made by the horse things were all the same ones used for velociraptors in the jurassic park movies
12/21/2009 3:54:37 AM
^ Yes
12/21/2009 4:32:25 AM
I was definately in the group of people who didn't realize norm was in this movie before watching it, which makes that episode of Bones exponentially funnier.
12/21/2009 6:03:34 AM
Oh, and I thought of this too:
12/21/2009 1:15:11 PM
12/21/2009 4:05:23 PM
It's the same as why are there rivers coming down from mountains. Snow/ice/rain. Has anyone seen it in IMAX then went and saw it in regular digital? I was amazed at how much the picture quality sucked in regular reald digital. Like the entire movie was blurry as hell. Almost unwatchable after watching it in IMAX.
12/21/2009 5:38:28 PM
there would need to be constant rain to have Angel Falls comin' off a land mass of that (small) size. Some things still need to be believable/consistent in a fantasy movie. I can deal with floating mountains, though I did scoff a little at it on first mention[Edited on December 21, 2009 at 8:52 PM. Reason : no rain in sight]
12/21/2009 8:50:29 PM
What affects the mountain masses to defy gravity that does not effect everything else, organic or otherwise?

Good lord how I loved this movie. The visuals are AMAZING! It will be very difficult to replicate this high level of movie going experience again. Sure, the story was a bit predictable but who the hell cares when it looks this good? I guess given my own religion/cultural heritage I could really empathize with the Na'vi.
12/22/2009 12:13:26 AM
^agree. I thought this movie was amazing. This was my first experience with IMAX 3D for a theatrical film and I was absolutely blown away. What an experience.Consider me hooked. Consider me Avatarded.
12/22/2009 1:02:47 AM
i enjoyed it
