I honestly feel bad for the new guy who takes the Kentucky job...quoted from their forums

haha, it's kinda funny.I read through the posts from the kentucky messageboard, and they sound just like us after we ran herb off.

I thought it was classless for the reporter to chase BCG into a key carded area. That area is supposed to be secure for the safety of the employees. And you can't blame BCG for running away from the guy. The only thing BCG should have done was told them that they can't follow him into the secure area, but the reporter would have probably tried to spun it off as him being a jackass, as they are doing now with him running from him.

Jay Wright should obviously be the hottest commodity in the country to any big school, but I get the idea he'll never leave Villanova.I forgot just how nasty a class he has coming in next year and really only loses Cunningham from this team...3 incoming McDonald's All-Americans (if you include Taylor King).

LOL, the facebook group "Bring John Calipari to UK" includes Calipari's daughters, Demarcus Cousins and Xavier Henry

With the pussification of our society and the what have you done for me lately nature of the internet, Calipari will not leave Memphis. He can be a big fish in a small pond, his players can pad their stats against the semi-glorified high school competition that makes up CUSA, and can recruit players who only have to make their mark on the dotted line, not to mention lots of $$$texas.
3/29/2009 10:48:00 PM
^i sorta agree with all but the first sentence, not sure what the internet has to do with Cal staying in Memphis?is it wrong of him to keep trying to win a championship in Memphis (which he has already almost done, C-USA or not) with what he's built from the bottom up (UM basketball was at Les Robinson levels before him, even though they've had some success in the 70s and 80s) as opposed to going to Kentucky having not completed his mission in Memphis? he needs to finish the job, dude.[Edited on March 29, 2009 at 11:00 PM. I think the pressures of the internet can play a key role, for good and bad, when it comes to the pulse of a program. I have no doubt that what is said by fans on the internet can be used against a school or a coach, and right now Calipari is worshipped in Memphis. Their fans adore him. At Kentucky he will be constantly scrutinized and will always be under a microscope, and in today's world, that can be detrimental to a program. I have little doubt it played a role in Gillispie's dismissal from Kentucky. Problems within a program can be brought to light in very quick fashion now, things aren't like they used to be.

Calipari won't ever lose to the Gardner-Webbs or VMIs of the world.. or the East Carolinas.

I wasn't trying to hide that I took that from PackPride, I thought people would be interested in UVA's new coach.
3/30/2009 5:36:00 PM
gee, i wonder why it wasn't the lead story on PTI and SportsCenter when State tried going after Calipari
3/30/2009 5:50:59 PM
Why are UVA fans upset with Bennett? I think its a good hire. Great young coach who's already got his feet wet at a good program Wazzou in a good conference the Pac-10.

Well UVA doesn't currently have the players to compete night in and night out in the ACC, so this is probably a solid hire for them. They need a guy that can recruit highly skilled and smart players that can run a system that is different than what most of the ACC runs. The fact that UVA has a nice academic allure to it makes this a perfect situation for them. He'll get athletes, but UVA right now can't recruit players in the Top 25 of their class very well, so they need to find the Top 50-150 players that know that they have a slim chance at making the NBA and care about academics. They should be able to get players with the brand new JPJ Arena.I see this hire being similar to Georgia Tech hiring Paul Johnson for their football team. The system when used with athletic players can work (see G'town making the Final Four in 07), but it can also be competitive with less athletic players that are fundamentally sound (see Wisconsin making the Final Four in 00). Bennett is a solid coach and got WSU back to the tournament for the first time since 96 and also twice tied the school record for wins (26). He was won AP, Naismith, Henry Iba Award, and Rivals.com National COY for 2006-07.

Georgia trying to get in before Memphis on the Missouri coach,http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4029709Memphis is going to be SOL if Calipari leaves.
3/31/2009 10:51:10 AM
UVA used to be a relatively proud basketball program, much like us. it would be a good hire
3/31/2009 10:54:17 AM
1 ACC Championship does not make a proud tradition.
3/31/2009 11:00:32 AM
I think Bennet is a good hire but it's kind of depressing, as an ACC fan, to see the SEC add Grant and potentially Calipari and Anderson. All three of these dudes are better than 9/12 of our coaches.
3/31/2009 11:08:52 AM
UVA wasn't consistently at NC State's level over time. They were very good in the Terry Holland (particularly Ralph Sampson) years, but we obviously beat them and won an NC.[Edited on March 31, 2009 at 11:14 AM. Reason : .]

Missouri has signed head coach Mike Anderson to a new seven-year contract, athletic director Mike Alden told ESPN.com Tuesday night.Financial terms were not official but projected to be in the range of $1.3 million to $1.5 million, up from his salary of $850,000 annually. According to a source close to the situation, Anderson turned down a $2.1 million per year offer from Georgia to coach the Bulldogs earlier Tuesday.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4031846

^are you kidding me? He's a good coach, but saying he's a class act is ridiculous. He took a commitment from a freshman in HS who had yet to play a high school game, and then there's the looming OJ Mayo scandal, not to mention a bunch of speculation about violations in the recruitment of Renardo Syndney

Xavier's Miller rejects Arizona's coaching offerhttp://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/11595705DETROIT -- Sean Miller, after meeting with his family and staff late Sunday, decided to reject an offer from Arizona and remain at Xavier, sources have told CBSSports.com. Miller flew on a private plane to Albuquerque, N.M., then drove to Sante Fe, N.M., early Sunday to meet with Arizona president Robert Shelton, athletic director Jim Livengood and a high-powered booster named Paul Weitman. The meeting lasted roughly four hours, and when Miller returned to Cincinnati he was described by a source as about "50-50" in terms of staying at Xavier or leaving for the Pac-10.Late Sunday, that changed. So now Miller will return for a sixth season at Xavier.Sources said Arizona will next target Utah coach Jim Boylen.Officials working on behalf of Arizona have already made contact, according to sources.Arizona has now been publicly rejected in its search to replace Lute Olson by Miller and USC's Tim Floyd. Some other candidates the school has informally pursued to varying degrees are Mark Few (Gonzaga), Jamie Dixon (Pittsburgh), John Calipari (Kentucky), Jeff Capel (Oklahoma), Bruce Pearl (Tennessee) and Tom Izzo (Michigan State). _____________________________________________________________________deja vu

^ no kidding.i guess we aren't the only program to swing and miss at several home-run hires in the national spotlight, but it seems like we were the first, at least in a long time, so it felt all the more embarrassing.
4/6/2009 12:45:22 PM
ballsy
4/6/2009 12:45:58 PM
Why didn't Arizona have Miller go to Tucson and see the campus and facilities? That would seem essential in luring a coach to your program.
4/6/2009 12:49:35 PM
^ i was wondering about that too BM
