yeah that's what I figured I read some of those reviews that claimed an intangible speedup with overall system performance, but no solid numbers application to application. Was hoping somebody had some practical experience using one.

2/3/2009 2:02:30 PM
my new mackbook pro made a high pitch tone (around 10-12 kHz i would guess) for about a minute this morning. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1823

strange, any idea what it is?I couldnt be happier with my early '08 MBP and macOS in general. Best computer i've ever had i do believe.
2/4/2009 11:50:43 AM
My friend is wanting to buy a MBP. Probably the $1999 one. I remember it used to be cheaper to buy the regular model and update the ram yourself through crucial. Is this still the case with DDR3?
2/15/2009 2:21:13 PM
its the case with all memory, from PC's from all manufacturers, forever and ever, amen
2/16/2009 2:18:36 AM
^thought so. Thanks!
2/16/2009 7:50:37 PM
I bought my iMac back in Nov and did the same thing. I upgraded to 4GB of RAM for a little more than $100 if I remember correctly.Got it at the following website - macrumors.com forum recommended it.http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo_PC2-6400

Apple should make this mod a standard feature for future Macbooks...http://i.gizmodo.com/5169289/macbook-modder-fk-it-im-putting-a-screen-in-the-apple#viewcomments
3/13/2009 9:39:37 AM
awesome idea.
3/13/2009 10:07:57 AM
okay, that's pretty hot
3/13/2009 10:19:29 AM
what would be the use in that besides looking neat?
3/13/2009 10:42:39 AM
48 days left...SUPPORTERS 696

just picked up the 17" model. I was a bit hesitant because i had a 17" laptop before but it was a giant brick made by HP several years ago. I'm definitely loving this! The screen is really awesome.

the HDMI argument is just cherry-picking - "OMG, look at this one feature on this cheaper Dell that the MacBook doesn't have!" Anyway, the Mac vs. PC pricing arguments rarely take into consideration the most important point - with a Mac, you are running OS X and all the bundled software.
4/13/2009 3:57:46 PM
^ Yeah, its does seem like since Apple makes their machines and software the two are more tailored for one another and melds together quite well, but still, the cost is always a concern for me.
4/13/2009 4:00:00 PM
minidisplayport/DVI adapter + DVI to HDMI cable FTW!
4/13/2009 4:04:41 PM
^ http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5311&seq=1&format=2you could also just buy this single miniDP to HDMI adapter and be done with it.I guess that's as good as having to buy an HDMI-> DVI adapter to hook your Dell up to your normal monitor.
4/13/2009 4:21:07 PM
haha yeah i know.i had already shelled out $30 for the miniDP to DVI before monoprice had 'em, and then i bought a new monitor that came with a DVI to HDMI cable.so for now, i'm rocking ghetto.
4/13/2009 4:24:15 PM
I've finally decided to jump on this bandwagon.I'm getting about $1k back from taxes and want to put it towards a Macbook. I'd really like to keep it under $1300.Is there a better deal to be had than this? http://ncsu.collegestoreonline.com/ePOS?this_category=152&store=432&item_number=40000038564&form=shared3%2fgm%2fdetail%2ehtml&design=432
4/14/2009 9:18:50 AM
look at the refurbs too
4/14/2009 9:19:53 AM
Yeah, I just saw the refurbs...I could get one of those and upgrade to 4gigs RAM for the same price...
4/14/2009 9:26:42 AM
Where can I find 4gbx2 ddr3 for the macbook pro? Newegg doesn't seem to carry it. The couple places i found on google are for ~$800 and I've never heard of them.
4/14/2009 9:31:38 AM
I want the refurbed Mbook Air for $1000. Looks like a steal, relatively speaking.

Dammit...I just bought my 13" refurbed Macbook for basically the same price as the 13" MBP's are going for now...AND I could currently get a iPod touch for free....It's been exactly 22 days since it was purchased. And I dont have the box it came in anymore. Can I return it and get get my money back?
6/8/2009 4:12:29 PM
i think you have 30 days. i dunno, i'd probably call Apple.
6/8/2009 5:53:50 PM
I just friggin bought a MB on May 4th. It was right after I got laid off and needed a computer. And now this. I'm assuming nothing I can do but bitch.
6/8/2009 6:13:55 PM
i'm fairly certain Apple has a refund/exchange policy
6/8/2009 7:01:14 PM
even if I got mine a bit over a month ago?
6/8/2009 7:37:42 PM
Called Apple. They were VERY strict about the 14 day policy. Apparently not a damn thing I can do.
6/10/2009 4:46:28 PM
wow - http://anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=3580&p=4Anand: "The Best Battery Life I’ve Ever Seen" for the new 15" MBP
6/13/2009 4:17:52 PM
hot dawg.
6/13/2009 4:21:25 PM
so i bought one of these 13 inch macbook prospretty sweet, screen is lightyears better than my unibody macbook i bought (and sold) last fall.Does need calibration out of the box but its a gorgeous display
6/14/2009 1:15:48 AM
^I've heard reports that some of the screens are super fluorescent and crazy. like blues are purple and greens are neon, etc. Is yours like that?
6/14/2009 12:01:44 PM
I'm more than happy with the performance of my 13 inch unibody, but using my GF's 15 inch pro (less than a year old), I've started appreciating the backlit keyboard a lot more. That and battery life is really all I would like extra from my computer. Seems silly to upgrade now, but darn 7 hours sounds pretty good...
6/14/2009 4:56:30 PM
^^I haven't had that problem....the colors were a tad washed out when I opened the box, I downloaded a color profile someone created using a Spyder Pro, looks awesome now. That being said, all the colors definitely "pop," but I think its one of the best looking displays I've seen.BTW I have a 9CBD display which appears to be one of the brighter onesEDIT: Also I think people are just not used to wide gamut displays?[Edited on June 14, 2009 at 5:24 PM. 6/14/2009 5:23:37 PM
i think i'd rather just wait 3 months for every other laptop maker to catch up to what's offered in the Apple laptops, and do it for a lower price with more options.
6/14/2009 9:14:10 PM
in three months, PC makers will release unibody aluminum laptops with 8 hour batteries that run OS X? sign me up!!
6/14/2009 9:29:10 PM
I guess I should have included the phrase "of the features I care about"OS X and the aluminum body aren't on that list. But 8 hours of battery life, and potentially from a battery that you could replace once it goes bad? Yeah, I could see that coming, or at least close enough to it that it wouldn't matter.
6/14/2009 9:36:14 PM
6/14/2009 9:38:02 PM
Because I'm using a Mac right now. OS X isn't something I particularly care about, but I can use it just as well as Windows in it's incarnations, plus Bootcamp makes any Apple laptop fair game for a Windows user. Right now the 13 inch Macbook intrigues me. At 1k it's the best small notebook out right now in it's price range. But usually Asus will catch up to their hardware in about 3-4 months or so.[Edited on June 14, 2009 at 9:54 PM. Reason : I should mention my normal laptop is 2.5 years old, so i'm starting to get back in the market]
6/14/2009 9:54:23 PM
I cant tell if timswar is just trolling or he's really that stupid.
6/14/2009 11:18:36 PM
Not stupid, not trolling, just happen to pay attention to who rolls out what kind of hardware and when over the last 3-4 years. It's not that hard, a little research will show you the same.
