No, I'm saying that I've never experienced jerky scrolling.I guess she's talking about using the scroll wheel. Clicking the wheel and scrolling with the mouse is still only available in the dev build, I think.I honestly don't use Chrome that often. Adblock + Linux support would probably cause me to spend a lot more time with it.

yeah, i always use the scroll wheel. i didn't think many people didn't use it.i use firefox 99% of the time, i'm just disappointed in google.

I just migrated back to Firefox 3.5It's just as fast as Chrome, but at least now I can use greasemonkey and firebug type things without them breaking every time a new update is released

oh yeah, i guess you're right.I can wait a few extra seconds for startup, though.I switched back to FF because I was getting tired of Chrome freezing and plugins crashing every 30 minutes or so (since the update. prior to the update I thought Chrome was fine). It was becoming a real chore to deal with.[Edited on June 8, 2009 at 11:47 AM. Reason : .]

yah, I think Google still has some kinks to work out w/Chrome. But its less than a year old so I'm confident they will get everything fixed in time.Question 4 EvryOne:1) Does anyone else have problems using Mypackportal with Chrome? For example, when I try to check my schedule with Chrome, it doesn't show any show any radio buttons on the screen, so I can't select the semester of the schedule I'm looking for. 2) Does anyone else have problems checking Outlook Webmail with Chrome? The company I work for has a webmail website that is apparently put up by MS that works a lot like Outlook, but only works right in IE. Even FireFox has trouble. Anything I can do to change it?

engadget just had a benchmark test between browsers and chrome won. ive been using nothing but firefox for the last 3 years, didnt like safari, but i figured what the hell ill give it a shot.it is CLEARLY faster than firefox. i'm very impressed and think ill make the switch.oh also i have a 2.5ghz core 2 duo, 4gb, windows 7 in case anyone cared[Edited on November 3, 2009 at 7:27 PM. Anyone using the 'Bookmarks synced...' feature in the dev build? Its nice when you have multiple computers you use
11/3/2009 11:10:56 PM
yeah i am. it's nice, but i've used foxmarks and delicious extensions for firefox in the past and i still wasn't happy with my bookmarks experience. i always end up in the same pattern where i bookmark a very informative article or something i want to read later, and then never look at it again. what's the point of bookmarking it then. for a while, i had another extension that randomly scrolled my bookmarks along the status bar in firefox, and that helped for a while, but there was still something lacking that i haven't had the chance to explore further
11/3/2009 11:15:23 PM
i am loving the Chrome beta for Mac. The speed of the program and interface is amazing. Going from Safari 4 (which is no slouch) to Chrome is the same feeling I got when I finally switched from FireFox to Safari 3. I'm sure Apple has some speed enhancements up its sleeve for Safari in the future, but wow - Google really just showed Apple up with how to build a very slick, very fast, very responsive, native Mac interface. Of course, Chrome is missing some critical features (can't even organize bookmarks yet) that may add just bulk to it, and it's missing extensions and scripting (I will probably continue to use safari to log into websites with 1Password, because I have no f'ing idea what all my passwords are). And the New Tab page, while not as visually stunning at Safari's, is much more functional and usable, but is also very attractive and sleek in its own right.
12/10/2009 1:11:54 AM
^I just installed it! really really slick...and I like how the tab bar is like the Safari 4 beta tab bar which sadly they got rid of in the final release. One 'bug' with google.com when the page loaded I got the message that I should download and install Chrome...haha

^^ I think Chrome's implementation of the tabs is better than Safari 4 beta's version of "Tabs on Top". In Safari 4b, Apple went too far with the tab, by making the taps replace the title bar completely. In doing so, the whole paradigm of tabs and the very old concept of the Title Bar got all mixed up and jumbled, and while there were some interesting ideas, ultimately it was confusing and inconsistent. Chrome has avoided this by using tabs on top, but retaining a pseudo title-bar, which basically simply acts as a container for tabs and for window-wide operations (the close/minimize/max buttons). This pseudo title-bar does not actually show the window title, since that is contained within each tab. It uses a little more vertical space than Safari's Tabs on Top, but it is worth those extra pixels to avoid the confusion of merging tabs and the title bar, and so you have a consistent field to grab so you can move the window, without worrying about accidentally moving or closing an individual tab, which was a problem with Safari 4b. I think Apple's poor implementation of Tabs on Top was in part a response to not duplicate or copy Windows Chrome, which is unfortunate. In this case, instead of trying to be novel and different, Apple should have used Chromes basic tab structure, and I'm sure they could have added some distinguishing features too.--i'm also glad they ported some of the nice space-saving features from Windows Chrome into the Mac version, like the auto-hiding status bar that only pops up when it's needed, is only as wide as it needs to be to fit the text it's showing, and slides down out of the why if you mouse over it. In Safari (and FireFox), I keep the Status Bar visible because I use it frequently to look at URLs, but really, it's just a waste of space 95% of the time. Same with the search text feature (Ctrl+F) - I like how it's just a little drop-down from the right side of the menubar, overlaid on the page, instead of bar the entire width of the window that pushes the entire page down like in Safari. [Edited on December 10, 2009 at 2:07 AM. Reason : .]oh yeah, and finally, i'm also glad they carried over the auto-hide bookmarks bar feature. In Safari, I keep my bookmarks bar hidden because 90% of my browsing can be done from the New Tabs page or just from the URL bar. But on the occasion I need to use a bookmark, i either have to go up to the Menu bar, or show the bookmarks bar manually (Ctrl+Shift+B). But the Chrome designers really hit upon something when they realized that most of the time when you need to use a bookmark or bookmarks bar is right when you open a new tab/window, so its really brilliant to automatically show the bookmarks bar in a New Tab page, and hide it otherwise. ^ no, that's definitely a good point. I just tested it, and you're right - if the first instance of a word you're searching for is under the drop-down, it remains hidden. I would have figured they would forcefully scroll the page just a bit, if possible, if that was the case
12/10/2009 10:14:17 AM
adthwart and nkGestures extensions ftw. no ads on tdub + mouse gestures =
12/10/2009 10:52:43 AM
I do like that google implemented a similar 'inspect element' feature that Safari has. One of the things I really liked about safari when it came to development. It also looks more or less identical.I did just run into a CSS issue, however, with one of my projects that I am currently working on. I have a button thats created by setting a css background to an anchor tag and the :hover changes the image's position from top center to bottom center (since I use 1 image that contains both the normal and hover states). The image, however, doesn't seem to show at all?Whats odd is I do this everywhere in the site and it works everywhere else lol[Edited on December 10, 2009 at 8:06 PM. Reason : .]

Been using Chrome almost exclusively with the exception of some Banking sites that say I'm using a unsupported browser etc...and so far I'm really liking it more and more!I really like the slick animations with the tab bar. Good example of their attention to detail.the themes are definitely lacking though...nothing that really stands out. But I suppose its better than nothing.
12/14/2009 3:00:35 PM
yeah, I've been using it exclusively, and have almost forgotten that I wasn't using Safari. Just set it as the default and forget about it. I'm glad to see the Reload button back on the left next to the arrows. I understand Apple's reasoning for putting it in the Address bar, I guess, but I still like it better on the left. Chrome needs to work on the tab management, though, when ou get a lot of tabs open. They just keep getting smaller and smaller, then the text starts to spill off the right and the right-most tab overtakes the New Tab button.... ugly. It definitely needs a minimum width that a tab will shrink to before some kind of tab-overflow button or drop-down is activated
12/14/2009 9:12:43 PM
^I seem to remember it giving a drop-down or something like that to handle tab overflow, but apparently not. Either it's been changed in a more recent version, or I'm just remembering incorrectly.Either way, after testing it by mashing Ctrl+T as fast as possible, the overflow doesn't start to overtake the New Tab button until what seemed like at least 80 tabs open, maybe even 100+. Not sure what you're talking about with regards to the text spill... once each tab gets small enough, the text just goes away because it can't fit a single character into the squeezed space... though maybe that's because you're using the beta version for Mac and I'm just on the standard Windows build, perhaps there are random minor differences.
12/16/2009 5:16:13 PM
I made the switch...Extensions: AdBlock+, AdThwart, Chrome Gestures, Facebook Adblock, Flashblock, Google Reader: Open in background tab, Rocker Gestures, RSS Subscription Extension, Shareaholic, Xmarks, YouTube HTML5-ifier Tried but Disabled: Aviary, beautify Facebook, Bit.ly, Chrome Reader, Chrowerty, Facebook for Google Chrome, Feedly, Google Reader Notifier, Google Voice Notifier, Google Wave Notifier, IE Tab, Send LinkWish they would fix pronto: Xmarks
12/16/2009 9:12:11 PM
^^ yeah, I can't seem to replicate the text overflow. But if you do get enough tabs, it just pushes off the right side of the window, which is equally useless. Once the tabs get so small you can't even see a single letter in their title, they're useless, and they should start overflowing in a managed way, not just getting smaller and smaller
12/17/2009 12:08:55 AM
^Yeah, I agree, and hopefully they're planning to add that functionality soon.It really doesn't affect me much, anyway, though, because by the time I've gotten enough open tabs to overflow the browser (on any browser), I've usually opened a new window and filled it with related tabs, instead. That's actually probably my favorite feature of Chome (besides the speed) -- the ease of moving tabs around between separate windows.[Edited on December 17, 2009 at 3:21 AM. Reason : though after just testig it a moment ago, it appears Firefox has also added this functionality]
12/17/2009 3:19:33 AM
why on earth would you ever want that many tabs open?
12/17/2009 8:18:23 AM
^ that's not the point. The point is if you do have a large number of tabs open, for whatever reason (not necessarily as many as I showed in the screenshot), Chrome should be able to handle them gracefully and there should be a way to find and go to a specific tab directly, which is currently impossible when there is no overflow button and no text is shown on the tabs.
12/17/2009 9:55:50 AM
anyone else keep having trouble with Flash on Chrome on Mac? a couple times a day a "Google Chrome Helper" process runs out of control and stays around 50-60% CPU. When I kill it, it just kills any flash on all the tabs I have open, but doesn't harm any of the pages or close Chrome or anything

12/25/2009 11:25:23 AM
yeah, that's not a nitpick, that's basic functionality. A nitpick is is when using the Late Night theme, when you mouse-over inactive tabs, there is supposed to be, and usually is, a faint glow that follows the cursor around inside the inactive tab. But depending on how your mouse cursor enters the inactive tab (i.e. from the top or bottom vs. the left or right, or from an active tab to an inactive tab) sometimes the glow doesn't show up
