So let me get this straightYou can't bring yourself to change the oil in your Audi, so your solution is to look into getting a car that is (from my understanding) notorious for burning oil?On top of that, I can't imagine sinking that much money into an RX-8 initially when you know they're A) unreliable and B) you're already hesitant to put $2,000 into the nice car you drive now. It's like saying "I'm not interested in paying a small sum of money to fix my current car, so instead I'll spend 8-10x as much to buy a car that I know is going to become a money pit in the future."That said the RX-8 is hot as hell.

Life's fun aint it.

I don't think this dude actually have money to buy a car. He just post these stuff to get us all riled up.
4/17/2008 9:30:49 AM
^^ wow.Come on God. What is it that you drive now? And whats wrong with that it needs 2k in repairs? Hell, I just threw in $2k into a MX3 and I look forward to it going another 100k miles (currently 140k). It's a wonderful/reliable beater that gets 32mpg/40mpg (city/hwy). Its just a good piece of mind in case my "fun" car needs down time for a while. I'd recommend the same for you. Out of 5 people that own rx8's (and 3 others that own rx7's), they all have a second RELIABLE car. With that said, dont let the rx8 be your only car. Pick from the following, and ONLY the following in STOCK trim. Dag, forgot to add a Mk III MR2 Spyder. When I say MR2, I mean a nice, clean, STOCK 2000-2005 MR2. [/thread]

^why not get an 05 REGULAR JOE EDITION for way less, and just drive it.lets be honest, you aren't a GT champion, the "track edition" isnt going to do anything for you other than eat a deeper hole in your pocket.

why? you aren't going to push the regular brakes to their limit.
4/17/2008 11:28:21 AM
not on the street anyway
4/17/2008 11:29:29 AM
^^^^ Pretty much all fixed up the essentials. I wasn't going to fix it up, but after a compression check show'd it was in great shape, I figured it was better than buying another beater. It got a new brake MC, new water pump, new timing belt + tensioner, new front and rear seals since they had slight leaks, new clutch, new radiator (had a crack in the side of the radiator, which JB welded, however, it still needed replacing for reliability sake. Flushed all the fluids, new plugs and wires.... All in all, it wasn't major work, just a whole bunch of little stuff that needed to get done. It runs like new, for cereal. The Audi would take at least $2500 to fix it up.It needs:-A new radiator-A new tire-Miscellaneous parts-New Air FilterPlus other stuff I can't even remember.
4/17/2008 12:24:22 PM
I bet it needs 4 new tires.
4/17/2008 12:33:44 PM
I agree with Duke, Noen and buttseks. Not to shit your parade, but I know we are all thinking the same thing; "You're not weighing out what you need vs what you want. In this situation, if money is an issue (which it is), you definatley need to go with what you need. The fun will come later in life when you've established yourself and have more money available. Not having the best/fastest/pimpest car now is not going to kill you."Btw, buttseks, was that quote directed at me or mr. slowblow? I'm confused Nm, I guess you are just trollin him so that's cool [Edited on April 17, 2008 at 12:47 PM. Reason : haha]

Too lazy to spend $150 to fix a tiny bubble.
4/17/2008 1:59:35 PM
unless those "miscellaneous parts" total up to about $1600-1700+ worth, it's not gonna cost $2k to fix your car.
4/17/2008 2:13:35 PM
What are you talking about? Is the tire bulging or something? If so, get a used one. They're $20 installed. Having a crappy tire is better than having a blowout on the highway. What's an air filter...$10 and 3 minutes to install?Used radiator could have been found by now if you spent any time searching and it can't be a difficult job. And you'll get fresh coolant when you swap it, so that's one less fluid to worry about.I seem to remember you saying the clutch was going on a previous page of this thread. Drop that shit off at an independent shop, bite the bullet, and get it fixed. It's a small price to pay for all the terrible launches you probably have done/will do to that car.[Edited on April 17, 2008 at 2:19 PM. Reason : s]

Excuse meBut if you cant get 2500$ to fix up your current car, then how do you go about buying a new one?
4/17/2008 2:32:35 PM
^Bingo. Probably going to take out a loan and go in debt. We've given him our advice. You can lead a horse to water, yadda yadda yadda...I can't believe there is 7 pages of this crap. And if he does get another car, what is his plans with his current car? By the sounds of it, he can't sell it for much the condition it's in. Probably should put money into it and get it back where it needs to be, and I'll bet it'd be a decent car again. Then you can go out and buy w/e the hell you want, and have a second car that's hopefully reliable. Maybe he's using his current car to justify ditching it and buying another? Who knows, and who cares. This isn't worthwhile anymore, I'm done. [/thread] now. [Edited on April 17, 2008 at 2:38 PM. Reason : .]

4/17/2008 3:58:39 PM
The American spirit is to buy a new car and sell it in one to two years. You have to downgrade or pay them to take it.

It has 16000 miles. Even if I drive it regularly for 5 years, that will still be at only 75k. I say the risk of a blowup is minimal.
4/18/2008 11:32:16 PM
what about the risk of sliding it into the side of a bridge?

So, tracking that S2k would be a bit of trouble due to it's convertible-ness. Not to mention the ugly interior. That said S2k's are cool cars, and that one looks to be a good deal.Ahmet
4/19/2008 5:54:06 PM
^What does it need for the track? A rollbar?
4/19/2008 8:29:53 PM
i thought car companies relized red was a bad idea in the 80s.
4/19/2008 8:33:16 PM
The red interior is heinous.I dont like the 2000-2003 interiors/exteriors in general though. You will spend 800-1200 for a rollbar. It's not that bad. I'm buying a hardtop for mine next friday!!!11whooo
4/19/2008 8:37:05 PM
a lot of tracks will allow a stock S2k (VIR won't, though).i don't like the solid red interiors (with the red dashboard and all), but I absolutely love the two-tone interiors like that one (and like the one I had).
4/20/2008 12:17:35 AM
red is hot. i want a white c6 zo6 with a red interior.
