^^ easily in my top five groups of all time. I'd rather have them on permanent hiatus than broken up. Gave me hope they would at least tour again.

Chrysler is using I'm From Barcelona in a TV commercial that I keep seeing
2/10/2008 3:47:34 PM
I'm glad they are broken up, I think anything more would have been repetitive.

i think i pretty much like just one crystal castles song.hopefully they'll improve, cuz if they did, they'd be awesome.
2/10/2008 9:15:20 PM
According to Pitchfork the GYBE story was a misquote and they haven't officially broken-up.

definitely. Goliath is my standout track at the moment. this album really has some more groove to it that kind of holds the songs a little tighter together.
2/11/2008 3:03:46 PM
^^^ that's good to hear. Thanks for the update.ETA--- also, I'm frustrated as hell b/c reviews are popping everywhere for the Gutter Twins record, and I'm not finding the leak anywhere.[Edited on February 11, 2008 at 4:43 PM. Reason : .]

^are they putting out an LP this year?
2/17/2008 12:13:41 PM
^ I think they're touring most of the year, and I remember reading that they're going to release a re-recorded version of "I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance..." in April of this year, so I'm not quite sure what they're doing. They may release a full length with those ^^ 8 tracks and 4 more or something like that. Especially since most people have only heard the 4 track version of Wizard of Ahhhs. I'm not sure how wise of a choice that would be, but I could see them doing that to appease the label they just signed to. That's all speculation on my part, though.[Edited on February 17, 2008 at 12:21 PM. Reason : .]

^ damn, thanks! Also, I'm about half way thru this, and I'm liking this a lot. It's very 60's in everything from the lyrics and vocals to the arrangements--- I'm a sucker for that shit. [Edited on February 18, 2008 at 12:14 AM. Reason : .]

I would be more enamored of this if her voice were better. "You Really Got a Hold on Me" was satisfying, though.[Edited on February 18, 2008 at 12:17 AM. Reason : .]

^ That cover and "Sweet Darlin'" were definitely the highlights of the 2nd half of the record for me."I should have known better" was... ummm... different.

Some notable EDM releases so far. Available on tons of blogs if you want to check them out:Funk D'Void - Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Vol 4A really deep blend of minimal and tech-house songs. Has great flow and mixing.Fabric 38 - Mixed by M.A.N.D.Y.Another good mix of minimal and tech-house. The tracklist in particular stands out on this one.Ticon - [2am]Trance heavily influenced with electro and psy elements. Standout tracks are "1987" and "Less Is More", the rest not so much.Listen: http://www.myspace.com/ticonmusicSander van Doorn - SupernaturalisticThis album is normally described as "composed with the club in mind", heavily bass driven minimal/techno/trance.Apple http://youtube.com/watch?v=H-8l4ok_V9UPsy Trance Euphoria - Mixed by John 00 FlemingWill be released Feb 19. One of my most anticipated releases, from one of the foremost trance DJ's John 00 Fleming. A collection of progressive trance with psy elements. Gorgeous first single:Vibrasphere - Autumn Lights http://media.putfile.com/Vibrasphere---Autumn-LightsSingles wise one of my favorites has been Apparat - Arcadia (Telefon Tel Aviv Remix)Listen: http://www.last.fm/music/Apparat/_/Arcadia+%28Telefon+Tel+Aviv+remix%29For non-edm, I have really liked the Vampire Weekend album linked in this thread.[Edited on February 18, 2008 at 1:03 AM. The first half of the Xiu Xiu album is phenomenal. Jamie and gang have another great cover too. But what happen after Black Keyboard?! I thought this was going to be my first Xiu Xiu album that I loved from start to finish. "No Friend Oh!" is the front runner for song of the year. Awesome use of brass in said song and "Under Pressure."
2/18/2008 5:05:18 AM
"master of the bump (kurt stumbaugh i can feel the soil falling over my head)" and "gayle lynn" are really good too.

2/18/2008 8:47:27 PM
i bought their ep when they opened for Of Montreal a few years ago and loved it.i really cannot get into their full length at all though. they really fucked up their two best songs when they re-recorded them("Time to Pretend" and "Kids")... if i can find it, i will upload it so you can hear their older stuff
2/18/2008 9:52:29 PM
wow really?I love those 2 songs as well as Electric Feel and Of moons, birds and monstersreally interested to hear those songs if you think they changed them for the worse
2/18/2008 11:06:00 PM
^^ in complete agreement. the vocal performance in particular on the original "Kids" was far superior.

I'd just like to say that I love the Los Campesinos! album
2/21/2008 4:49:20 PM
^ damn, am I the only person who doesn't like that record? Perhaps a shallow opinion, but the male lead singer's "emo", whiny delivery just kills me.
2/21/2008 4:53:12 PM
^^they remind me a bit of the anniversary...if they were a lot more british

The Elbow album is out there (I would post it, but the only copy I have has screwed up ID3 tags). After one listen, I think it's great. I like their previous records a lot, but this one made the best first impression of all.
2/22/2008 12:14:31 AM
I've listened to the She & Him record and this new Elbow multiple times today and love them both.Elbow may be my personal favorite of 2008 so far this short year.
