You were prolly one of those front wheel drive vehicles that were responsible for slowing my progress to Winter Park... Once we got passed the cluster fuck full of sudans and coupes, it was a rather decent ride... 76 to Idaho Springs was still open :-)

Once my beu and I got there, there was a lot of powder and if I ate snow it wasn't that bad :-) I actually got some heat this time :-)

Squirt, my 2WD with snow tires will whoop whatever you got anyday, 4WD/AWD don't do jack if you don't have traction... i didn't have ANY problem and was frustrated just as much as you were with the people who couldn't even make it up the off ramp

Back from skiing on CO. Went to Copper, Vail, and Breckenridge in that order. Unfortunately none of these mtns had gotten any fresh snow recently and the conditions weren't that awesome. IMO Vail was fucking horrible.

Sadly on the last day (at Breckenridge) I was a little too aggressive going down the Lake Chutes (double black EX) off the top of Peak 8. Skiied down the 15 ft drop off that started the run and made my way left. When I went to turn right (probably too soon with too much speed) I lost my balance in the deep snow. I tumbled head over heels repeatedly for at least 120 ft (not exaggerating either). My skis flopped off about 70 ft above where I stopped and before they released I felt something twist in my knee. I could go on, but suffice it to say I climbed up to my skis and tried skiing again before realizing that something was horribly wrong with my knee (despite a lack of pain). It was impossible for me to make any right turns.

yada, yada, yada, got to a warming hut and called ski patrol. Back down at the medical clinic at the base I was diagnosed with a third degree ACL tear in my left leg.

FUCK

I wouldn't doubt it... I had to rent a Ford Edge.. Ha ha I thought that thing was a piece and I didn't know it was gonna pour down snow the next day so I was worried but this Jeep decided to pass everyone on the right and we decided to join the caravan The Edge was a beast that day .. Still would never own one tho

just got back from the US Open in Stratton, VT.

Shaun White is a fucking machine. He won both the slope style and the super pipe.

Its amazing how high they boost on the pipe and hits

Saw White at the bars and he is pretty damn short and skinny too.

seemed like a normal down to earth guy with a bodygaurd

skiing again tomorrow (well really, later today)

that will make the 9th day this season...pretty respectable, i think, for someone who lives 2.5-3 hours from the nearest skiing mountain.

might go snowmobiling this weekend.

Yeah thats good Duke. I had 7 days of actual skiing this year, and was planning an 8th until the unfortunate event Considering the closest area I'd go skiing is 4 hrs away, I'd say thats good as well

ahhhh so Mt Snow is lower vermont got 8" of snow today and everything (trees lifts blah) is open.

I think I may have to hit up a late march sesh to cap the season off.

Ive gone riding 12 times in 5 trips. Definately my most active season ever. Hopefully I can double that next year.

went back to Mt Baker today...snowed all day, temps were hovering right around freezing (prob a little above at lower elevations). tons of snow, but it was like mashed potatoes...deep, chunky, sticky mashed potatoes. also, visibility kinda sucked most of the day--not my favorite conditions at all.

still had a pretty good time, though.

Baker got 88 INCHES of snow in the last 11 days of March...they still have a 195-210" base.

oh yeah, enough fresh snow in places to bury my skis and bottom half of my boots as i was skiing through it. extremely heavy snow (so that i really would've rather just had packed powder)--at one point, it was coming down in pellets that looked almost like Dippin' Dots...but still snow.

very hard to ski fast or carve turns today, and very tiring to ski in such heavy snow.

but i guess there are worse problems to have, even on skis.

Planning on going to Whistler/Blackcomb in 2 weeks. Prob ski on Saturday, rent a snowmobile for a half day on Sunday before coming home.

Also might hit Mt Hood, OR and/or somewhere in the Rockies (if they're still open) in late May/early June when I drive back to NC. Any ideas for skiing that late in the season?

we ended up making it a day trip

but got one good day of skiing in there

top half to third of the mountain was good...the bottom was a skating rink (and the very base was a bunch of slush).

i skiied a single run (Peak To Creek) that is 4 miles long with one mile of vertical drop!

dammit

Stevens Pass is closed

Whistler is closed

Mt Baker is closing after this weekend (even though they just got fresh snow and STILL have a 192-204" base!)

I guess I'll still have Mt Hood, OR and Blackcomb, BC, but I won't be going every weekend...those places are a little too much of a drive to go THAT regularly (plus I'm now in a very busy stage of training up here)

Hopefully I'll make it to Baker one more time on Saturday.

^^^ haha, i've skiied in the same Columbia Bugaboo jacket since I was 15 (or maybe 14).

I'm 29 now.

I've busted a few bibs and pants, but the jacket is still quite usable, though showing a little wear.

I'm still in the same pair of Dalbello boots that I bought 7 (?) seasons ago. The liners are pretty badly compressed, but it's not worth it to me to pay to get custom liners in them. I'll just get another pair of boots in another couple of years (I won't ski enough in the next season or two to warrant it, due to deployments and being back in NC).

_______________________________________________

http://www.sierrasnowboard.com is running a sale right now, I think (I got an email from them the other day about their 70% off sale. Didn't open it, as I'll be in Iraq all ski season this year). I got a $1000+ dollar pair of Nordica Hot Rods from them, shipped to my door for $299 last summer.

Anyone ever skiied around Sicily by any chance (Mt. Etna)? Looks like we'll be stopping in Sigonella for a couple of days on the way home from this deployment.

^way on up there

Shaun white is really cool and chill, I met him in KY awhile back and hung out at a party he was throwing after the dew sports tour. hes actually really funny but nice at the same time...tries to introduce everyone and all and doesnt get hammered which i thought was amazing.

he's been in raleigh a good amount this year too, him and the guy that had the release party at five star are real close and love that place.

i don't know if heavenly will have a lot of trails open on thanksgiving weekend, but you never know. id rec checking it out first though bc they will prob charge full price even if there's only like two lifts open. if there's not a lot of lifts open i'd say try going to sierra or to somewhere on north shore.
