Very easy and unmessy... I feel like I can eat one a day now!

Anybody seen that method or tried it?"

Holy crap. I must now have Pomegranates.

I tried it Sunday. Did not work that well for me.

I see what i did wrong though. I put the pomegranate half in the bowl and beat it with a spoon instead of holding it in my hand. (Hmmm some fun can be had with that sentence.)

^ UPDATE: It worked, but it wasn't as easy as the video shows. I had to rotate the pomegranate as I whacked it to get the seeds off the edges.

However, it does beat the bowl of water method.

If your Pom is soft, you'll get splatter. So be careful about that.

I tried it. I had to whack mine a lot harder than it appears in the vid. i used a big bowl and that contained the splatter pretty well. still took me about 5 minutes though.

Mine did not work well. I had to beat the shit out of it and because it was getting to the overripe stage it splattered like a mofo. It did work better than the water in bowl but I stopped halfway through cause it was so messy. Will try with a perfectly ripe one later.

He does say to rotate it, actually.

OK, I am trying it tomorrow... dude is able to do it in 20 seconds (the whacking part), so it must be doable. But yeah, it makes sense that the pom shouldn't be overripe. Will post results tomorrow.

its a good concept. you can literally squeeze the pom instead of hitting it and you'll get them to drop into a bowl... but that'll take you forever.

i think this will be my new method.

I did it. Definitely messy, but it works better than the water! Way quicker too, and pretty easy to clean up as long as you wipe stuff down right away.

Make sure you get a big ass bowl, i think that's key.

Wife tried this over the weekend and didn't like the results. Said it was messy and that the pomegranate seeds on the very outside of the shell popped/exploded when you hit it with the spoon. Said it was faster, but not worth it because you lose pomegranate seeds and have to clean up a mess.

I've never minded the water method... i always get two or 3 poms and sit in front of the tv and set up a seeding station on the coffee table (with towels to absorb any juice splatter)

i keep the seeds in a covered bowl and they are good for several days in the fridge.

I liked this because there were very few pieces of membrane that came out with the seeds. I hate picking them out with the water method.

Just tried it. I can see how this method works but I think I cut it the wrong way. I had to keep breaking it open to split the membrane to get to the seeds.

Are you supposed to eat the seed inside the juice pouch?

i was NOT impressed.
the skin and membranes had a horribly bitter taste, and they got stuck in my teeth. the juice from all of those pods went everywhere, and i had to spit out COUNTLESS of those damn seeds.
you people are weird little shits if you like this 'food'
11/14/2007 4:06:50 PM

Sounds like you don't have a clue how to eat them, lol.
11/14/2007 4:12:44 PM

Yoshiemaster
this must be a mockery^^
btw, how weak does your bite force have to be to consider those as "seeds"?
11/14/2007 4:34:49 PM

CharlesHF
Yeah I just eat the whole aril without thinking about it. The "seeds" are just a slightly harder piece of the fruit. Big deal.

I just bought two more. but I haven't eaten them yet, because in the back of my mind I still consider it quite an investment of time for a damn piece of fruit.

Are you people always just eating them straight, or does anyone have a favorite recipe using them? The only thing I can figure out to do is to put them into some sort of fruit salad with cabbage and oranges and stuff. (it's better than that sounds, honestly).

Eat that shit straight. The wife and I pretty much eat them with a spoon out of a bowl like cereal. I'm still against this "new method" of getting out the seeds because you bust too many that are close to the outer shell.

They are so good alone. I also eat them out of the bowl with a spoon.

Also, drop several with some juice in a glass of champagne for an extra festive holiday drink. Yum!

and my tiny baby niece LOVES them, she carries around a little baggie with her all the time. they're great snacks - crunch, sweet, a little tart, and bite-sized

ew. no.

ok, here's another take on that speed de-seeding, by a real master. this guy does a whole pom in less than a minute. this nice lady does it all slow and awkward afterwards so you can see what to aim for.

Chocolate covered pomegranate seeds sounds like a good idea...but fails pretty bad. The chocolate takes away from the delicious pomegranate seeds and the ratio is way out of whack. Next please.

And tried it just now for the FIRST time

Worked exactly like in the video, very very clean, and took about 30 sec per half. Could have done it even faster if I had whacked it harder.

Key: Rotate as you whack, and don't forget to whack at an angle on the sides too, not just on top straight down.
