I'll throw in my standard recommendation of a '03-'06 Gibson Melody Maker, an American-made P-90 guitar that can be had for less than $300 on eBay.

Srsly, ebows are fine and whatever, but I lent mine to a friend like three years ago and have never asked for it back.
2/23/2008 8:10:27 PM
i don't even know what happened to mine...maybe that's why hooksaw is being so forceful...he's rubbing it in my face that he stole and made good use of my ebow!

So, I guess Ive been out of the loop but I just heard the most amazing news tonight while reading my favorite guitar forum The new 2008 Ibanez S Prestige models just came out and there are SO many things I like about them I might have to get one...1) they are MIJ (made in japan) again for the first time in a long time. this is AMAZING. some of the best guitars ive ever laid hands on were the old MIJ Ibanez S's of the 80s and 90s. the new ones like mine are still great but the MIJs were indescribably superb.2) the top of the line S prestige is being offered with my favorite finish in the series which they havent done in years...plain satin oil finish. keeps the guitar thinner, lighter, better sound imo, and looks hot3) It has the new ZR2 bridge which is yea..just owns my ZR and i love mine to death.4) Is a 24 fretter S, nuff said.

nice. full gallery here if anyone cares:http://www.roblevene.com/guitar_collection_concise/5470SOL/i decided i think im getting one haha. its just a dream guitar for me even more so than my current one.
2/25/2008 12:30:03 AM
i really just don't like that body style.and i'd rather have some SSH. Schaller FRT-II > ZR trem.i can't decide between, the 27 fret Horus or the 24 TAT with the curved body. They are both pretty solid tuned down to C/B area, meh i guess it just comes down to having that middle pickup or 27 frets.
2/25/2008 1:57:23 AM
GODDAMIT!!!1 Having thoroughly supported my point, I was going to let the whole fucking EBow thing drop, XSMP, but then you had to go and post this shit:
2/25/2008 5:30:02 AM
The band Giant puts some good use into an ebow some, they also use a real cello bow on some stuff.we've used one before as well. but its not something to use frequently for sure.

2/25/2008 8:16:50 AM
If you've ever heard of The Absence, Peter Jackson from that band plays a horus and his neck pickup sounds sick on every recording i've heard. Check out 'The Murder' on their myspace. http://www.myspace.com/theabsence He plays the first solo and any of the other solos that have any whammying in them. He plays the last solo iirc from when i saw them live last year.like i've never heard a bad tone out of either guitar through a good amp.]
2/25/2008 8:40:19 AM
oh im sure. i mean theyre solid guitars, the 24 fretter just seemed to have better neck pickup tone but that was just me and i could have been wrong very easily. and ill check it out when im home tonight for sure.
2/25/2008 8:45:15 AM
I refuse to play anything less than 47 frets.
2/25/2008 9:29:08 AM
LOL. clearly you need a double-neck 27 fretter spooky[Edited on February 25, 2008 at 9:51 AM. Reason : ]

Returned mine...They don't sell the clamp version anymore, just the pin version, since they're coming out with new versions soon. Gonna get the new one.
2/28/2008 6:25:19 PM
i have terrible guitar acquisition syndrome i'm about to buy this simpily because its only $500. seller must not know how much its worth. Its a rare 1996 model with a booster.
3/3/2008 12:52:43 PM
haha i have the g.a.s. all the time buy it man!and yes i bought that S prestige i posted earlier
3/3/2008 1:00:36 PM
you metalheads and your metal guitarsi'm still pissed i didn't snag that used tv yellow les paul doublecut i saw about a month back
3/3/2008 2:29:25 PM
3/3/2008 2:53:37 PM
there are some guitars(strats come to mind) that are almost too light to play live.
3/3/2008 2:55:29 PM
hmm hard to say there. for a solid body i dont think they get much lighter than the S series guitars that I use and I love those live.
3/3/2008 3:05:45 PM
how do you like your new axe? i have worn the finish off of my bridge already!
3/3/2008 3:09:46 PM
3/3/2008 3:30:59 PM
^^ i actually wont get it for another week or two. the guy i bought it from is a one man show with a huge backlog and he does a lot of custom checking his guitars post factory work and its coming set up with my strings and tuning already:http://www.ibanezrules.com/new/setup_trem.htmhttp://www.ibanezrules.comi think itll be worth the wait...but hopefully not too much more of one!^ word. i used a les paul and an SG for a bit when this band started and the one i had was like a bowling ball around my neck. single cut tho, didnt like it as much.[Edited on March 3, 2008 at 3:37 PM. ibanezrules rocks.i wanted to say rules but..yeah i'm skeptical about owning a non ibanez bridge, simply because i'm so used to being able to set up my guitar to any tuning in like 15 minutes, but i really want to try out a Schaller FRT-II. Everyone says its more stiff, and i think thats what i need for my playing style.[Edited on March 3, 2008 at 4:28 PM. Reason : my RG550LTD is heavy as fuck. or maybe i'm just skinny as fuck.]
3/3/2008 4:27:42 PM
haha. and yea, RGs can be heavy. My current backup guitar and the one I used until I got my first S was an '83 Roadstar and it is very heavy as well. As much as I love the guitar for sentimental reasons..i'll be very glad to have an S prestige as my main guitar and my current S series as a backup. Pretty much a dream setup considering how incredibly stoked I was to get my current S a few months ago haha...next up, getting the perfect cab to go with my dual rec. the peavy cab isnt cutting it. I played a marshall 4x12 slant with my mesa for the first time a few weeks ago at one of our shows and was blown away with how my guitar sounded. I think ill be leaning that direction.about the bridge. thats all personal preference. ive been extremely happy with my ZR and hope to be even happier with my ZR2. but then again im still a relative noob with trem bridges compared to most who swear by them.[Edited on March 3, 2008 at 4:34 PM. You should try and find the guy who was selling that Framus Dragon cab in Winston Salem.framus rocks.
3/3/2008 4:39:30 PM
Yea i glanced at one online this weekend that was a good deal (at least i thought so). like 650 bucks for the framus dragon 4x12 slant cab. but it was in arizona and luckily with a cab at least i can sell my current one to cut into some of the spending. I Have limited knowledge of them besides the fact that they have marshal mids and highs with extra low is what ive been told. which would be amazing since the lows are what i do feel the marshalls lack slightly[Edited on March 3, 2008 at 4:54 PM. so Rich from IbanezRules is awesome. Not only was the guitar that im getting dead on with retail price - and that includes a VERY awesome and thorough setup- he found a small imperfection on the 21st fret and he is knocking off like 100 bucks for it...So the guy totally redid my fretwork, reoiled my neck (basically at no additional cost), found a small indentation blemish (which will not affect playability after looking at all the pics he sent of the 'dent') that was Ibanez's fault not his, and hes knocking money off for me. this guy is amazing he sent me a ton of pics of the dent, so this isnt as good of a look at the others, but i liked this pic because of the grain in the neck [Edited on March 4, 2008 at 11:56 PM. appreciate the heads up. but for the moment i still need to pick up my preferred pups for the new S, and get a cab that im fully happy with and im about all out of guitar money I still wanna look at a few mesa and framus cabs, some more marshalls ones as well. I wanna be able to hook up my head+guitar to a specific cab before i buy it though which is hard oh and orange makes awesome versatile cabs too. hmm. pricey tho :/[Edited on March 5, 2008 at 12:19 PM. new opeth song has some sick nasty riffs. i don't understand how he comes up with that shit, or how he gets such a badass tone that works for every riff i've heard them ever play.not sure about how i feel about fredrik being the new guitarist... there isn't tons of room for sweeping in opeth.typical live metal band quality video.]
