You made out like a bandit.[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 12:17 AM. Reason : Might as well inform the rest of the league of your championship]
8/20/2007 12:16:53 AM
wtf? Gore at #14? You must have the dumbest leaguemates ever.
8/20/2007 1:30:21 AM
HA...nice job.Next year, you may want to venture out of the rookie leagues though. That's some Little Tikes, "my first fantasy draft" shit right there.
8/20/2007 9:05:34 AM
can I be in your league next year
8/20/2007 11:09:13 AM
First draft is complete. 12 man, 2 keeper league. I was new, so I drafted my keepers (Henry and Palmer)roster is as follows:Carson Palmer - QBTravis Henry - RBMarshawn Lynch - RBReggie Wayne - WRJavon Walker - WRDallas Clark - TJerico Cotchery - WR/TJohn Kasay - KMiami - DDeAngelo Williams - BNJerious Norwood - BNMike Bell - BNDevin Hester - BNTed Ginn Jr - BNAlex Smith (QB) - BNScoring is not too far off from Standard, the biggest difference being inflated points for Defensive stats. I feel pretty good about my roster, but I'm going to be depending alot on Henry, and the fact that half of my starters have a bye on week 6.
8/20/2007 11:26:13 AM
All right everyone, I need your help with a creative idea. It's my turn this year to be commish and determine our method for deciding our draft order in my $$$ league. I know I want to use Ping Pong Balls, but I can't seem to figure out how to take out the human element (me picking a ball out of the container [box, hat, etc]) of the lotto. Ideally, I could use air to make a ball pop out of the box like the NBA or the lotto does. Any idea's for how to make that happen? The draft lotto is this weekend.I know some of you are really smart. Let's see what ya got..
8/20/2007 12:05:37 PM
I am the defending champ in that ^^ league, but my keepers weren't too strong (had to trade some studs for depth during the stretch run last year) but I like my team, definitely not star heavy but pretty deep, should be ok for bye weeks and injuries...QB - McNabbWR - Andre JohnsonWR - Braylon EdwardsRB - Maroney (keeper)RB - Ronnie BrownTE - Owen DanielsW/T - Mark ClaytonK - GouldDef - Chicago (keeper)BN - Ahman GreenBN - Brandon JacksonBN - Jay CutlerBN - Ronald CurryBN - Brandon JonesBN - Green Bay (my sleeper D for this year)
8/20/2007 12:51:44 PM
THIS JUST IN...DO NOT DRAFT MICHAEL VICK.
8/20/2007 3:28:48 PM
my team in the league Jaybee1200 and wlb420 are in (I was also new):QB: Tom Brady Patriots offense - Dillon + Moss/Stallworth = Tom Brady fantasy stud? I hope so.QB: Brett Favre: #10 QB last year in our league, #9 if you throw Vick to the dogs, don't really see him getting better or worse, just a dependable backup.RB: Maurice Jones-Drew: I'm in love with this kid, hopefully a long-term keeper. Not concerned about possibly losing goal-line carries, as only 2 of his TDs last year were from one yard out. Should be returning punts too for added value. RB: Willis McGahee: Tried desperately to trade him because I didn't think Brady would drop, and I felt I could get someone similar with my 3rd round pick. Brady was still available though, so it all worked out. He'll improve in Baltimore, but by how much? And can he stay healthy? We'll see.RB: Jamal Lewis: Thought he was a steal in the 7th, as the main man in Cleveland he should be a dependable backup, and maybe a spot-starter.RB: Ladell Betts: Got him late, I want to see how the carries are distributed in Washington. I think Betts will get more carries than most expect.WR: TJ Houshmandzadeh: To me, he and Driver were the best options in the 4th. Being a Bengals fan, and anticipating that I would get Favre, TJ was a no-brainer.WR: Mushin Muhammad: I think he's undervalued. He was the #31 WR in our league last year, and I honestly think Grossman will improve this year. I felt comfortable drafting guys like Jamal and Favre before him because I knew he would fall while lesser WRs came off the board.TE: Jeremy Shockey: Was the #6 TE last year, but only 10 pts less than 2nd, and 27 pts more than 8th. I took him as the 2nd TE off the board. I am high on him and really high on Winslow, but I thought Shockey was more likely to be snatched up than Winslow. If I knew Gonzalez would have fallen to like the 10th TE taken, I would have waited for him, but that completely surprised me.W/T: Kellen Winslow: Man, when I took this guy as my 2nd TE (and the 3rd TE overall), it sounded like I had just taken Jarrett in the 4th round. Obviously there are questions about the QB situation and his offseason surgery, but his talent is breath-taking, I really wish he wasn't a Brown. The #2 TE last year.WR: Antwaan Randle El: Will be the #2 WR in Washington this year, plus the added bonus of being a returner. I feel like I can start 3 of Muhammed, Shockey, Winslow, and Randle El every week. The advantage of having 2 stud TE's is that if one gets hurt, I can replace him with Randle El instead of *insert unproductive WW TE here.*WR: Wes Welker: Last round flier, the #15 WR last year, but obviously his situation has changed. Hopefully he will be involved in the Pat's offense and return kicks, and provide solid depth.WR: Chris Henry: Had to write this guy in, as they didn't have a label for him. Sure, he'll take up bench space the first half of the season, but I feel he is going to be worthy of mixing into my rotation of decent WR/TE's when he comes back. Also provides insurance for Housh. K: Gostkowski: Just a kicker, if Brady doesn't get a TD hopefully he'll get a FG.D: Denver: Not sure if I reached or not here, as defense counts a lot in this league, and it was pretty unpredictable as to which D was getting taken next. #10 defense last year, should get better adding Bly opposite Bailey, Bates said he is going to make the defense more aggressive this year to get more *sacks* and *turnovers*...good enough for me[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 5:28 PM. 8/20/2007 6:34:28 PM
i drafted Anthony Grundy with the last pick in my NBA draft last season...I kept him for a good week until I realized I'd be an idiot to keep him on my roster
8/20/2007 6:39:33 PM
in the same draft that turnip and jaybee were in, this is my team (with keepers parker and chad johnson...the person who drafted for me last year royally fucked me, as I had to sell off my whole team to have 2 keepers)QB Jon KitnaWR Chad JohnsonWR Donald DriverWR Hines WardRB Willie ParkerRB Edgerrin JamesTE Ben WatsonK Josh BrownDef DallasBN Vincent JacksonBN Anthony GonzalezBN Devery HendersonBN Lamont JordanBN Leon WashingtonBN Brian LeonardBTW this is not your standard scoring league[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 8:12 PM. yeah, its the greatest scoring system ever... just wait and see, its the shit
8/20/2007 10:53:10 PM
i like it
8/20/2007 10:56:54 PM
like I said, its the closest thing I have ever seen to real football in fantasythings are really close to their relative worth in the real game, I cant stand stupid shit like a passing TD being worth less than a rushing, or a sack being worth something stupid like 30 points[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 11:01 PM. Reason : d]
8/20/2007 11:01:14 PM
and if your d sucks, you have to have a great offensive week to winwhich mirrors real life[Edited on August 20, 2007 at 11:02 PM. Reason : .]
8/20/2007 11:02:00 PM
exactly... or if you D produces a shutout, extremely rare in the NFL, you are almost guaranteed to win
8/20/2007 11:05:10 PM
I don't really know about 1 pt/4 carries, it means 4 carries for 0 yards is equal to 1 carry for 15 yards. It's not like it's that tough to take a handoff. Overall though I like the scoring system too
8/20/2007 11:06:22 PM
I guess Joseph Addai is going to be bank
8/20/2007 11:07:33 PM
^^ wears down the Defense hahaha
8/21/2007 12:34:34 AM
I am in a strange situation now. I am going to list some of the basics of my scoring system first, since that plays a big part. I have a receiver/defense trade that I want to think about making, and I am waffling.First, receiving yards are 10 = 1 pt, TD = 6 pts.For defensive scoring, there can be a lot of points. Sacks, INT, fumble recoveries, safeties are all 2 pts. Defensive TDs are 6 pts. Return yards (both punt and kick) are 10 yards = 1 pt. You also get points for score allowed, ranging from about 25 points for a shutout to 0 if they score around 23-25 (I can't remember and I can't access my fantasy stuff from work).I have a possible trade proposal that will involve Lee Evans for the Bears defense. Now, Evans will probably get around 160-180 points in my league. The max that any receiver will get is around 200. Chicago, on the other hand, had weeks last year where they put up as many as 40-50 points. I was already thinking about making the deal (not straight up), but when I saw the Bears defense (basically their return unit) last night, it made me really want to go ahead with it.I could get more from just return yards than Evans would give me all game. The only thing is that I already have Pittsburgh's defense, and the question I am wondering about is the differential between one defense and another. I mean, is Chicago going to give me significantly more to make it worthwhile? I'm just looking for input from all sides. I won't even talk with the guy about the deal until I've worked through every angle, but I know he wants to do something to get Evans because he is a Bills fan.
8/21/2007 9:21:59 AM
What other WR's do you have?Is Evans your #1?I would use his homer syndrome for Evans against him. Make it a 2 for 2 deal and give him Pitts and Evans for Chi and a lesser WR. It would make the trade easier, you would still get a great D, and you could get someone to ease the pain of losing Evans. Refuse to get rid of Evans if he doesnt include a WR.Because really, you do have a good defense in Pittsburgh, so its not like you will be struggling to win games if the trade doesnt go through. You need to follow what's called the Principle of Least Interest. He who cares the least, has the most influence on the relationship and it's outcome. Act like it doesnt matter to you if you make the trade or not, and I'm sure he will cave in sooner or later.Let me know how it goes.
8/21/2007 9:36:59 AM
^^ and if it helps, remember that the Bears will have Kitna, Jackson, and Favre for 6 games... they are all turnover machines
8/21/2007 9:47:30 AM
My other receivers are Driver, Galloway, and Booker (I only got Booker because I have a bad feeling about Chambers after his run in with the law). I chose Evans, Galloway, and Driver because they are the primary option on their teams, unlike guys like Boldin and Fitz, who are going to be splitting receptions.I was going to try and move the Pitt defense to another owner who is a Pitt fan. Unfortunately, he isn't going to be willing to give up much in exchange for the Pitt defense, he's not that much of a homer for them.My team is a little contrarian. I don't have the same vibe that a lot of other people do, so I picked guys that might not be as high on other folks' boards. My RBs are McGahee, Cadillac, Ahman Green, and Lamont Jordan. I tried as much as possible to avoid situations where the carries and receptions are going to be split up.MY QB is Peyton, and I picked him with my first pick at 1.06. In my league, passing yards are 10 = 1 pt and passing TDs are 6 pts, too, so a QB can get massive numbers.
8/21/2007 12:27:13 PM
I think Ahman Green is going to have a great year this year
8/21/2007 1:26:42 PM
Larry Johnson has officially ended his holdout. He walked out onto the field, mid-practice, and immediately started running with the first team offense.LOL.So now, only 6 5 reasons to be weary of drafting him.
8/21/2007 2:34:43 PM
the only reason i'd be weary of drafting him is if Herm's o-line is going to look like it did when he coached the Jets. that kind of o-line will make a lot of things go wrong.
8/21/2007 2:38:41 PM
I assume thats what he ^^ meant by 5maybe not though
8/21/2007 2:41:17 PM
lol, I could lie and say yes, but I didnt mean that.I meant:1) His TERRIBLE o-line2) His far below average QB3) His mediocre at best WR's4) His brutal schedule5) His record # of carries last season and the likely possibility that he could get hurt because of his workload. I also have to wonder if he will still "run mad" now that he has gotten the payday he was looking for.
8/21/2007 2:44:28 PM
I'm looking for 1 random waiver pick up for depth. Here are some player available: Owen Daniels, Zach Miller, Daniel Graham TE - (I have McMichael for STL and he is not a sure fire TE)Troy Williamson, Reggie Williams, Mason, or Burleson WR - I could always use WR depthPanthers, Vikings, Packers, Falcons, Skins, Giants def - I have a really weak sleeper defense and need the most help here with only the 49ers as my def.Do any of these look worth grabbing or should I just wait and see after the season starts?
8/21/2007 2:51:06 PM
Green Bay actually had a decent defense last year and should be even better... they are big my sleeper this year
8/21/2007 2:57:59 PM
In an All-Rookie dynasty draft, who would you pick first: Calvin Johnson, Peterson, Lynch, or some one else?
8/21/2007 3:29:51 PM
8/21/2007 3:39:55 PM
I would take the Packers, Panthers or Vikings defense over the 49ers defense
8/21/2007 3:53:17 PM
^^^Peterson in a dynasty without a doubt
8/21/2007 4:09:56 PM
Johnson. I think he has the best chance, because Detroit has been throwing the ball like nobody's business for the past few years.Minnesota hasn't been a real running team for awhile now. If it was a different offensive scheme, maybe, but Johnson could be the next Randy Moss (without the dropoff and attitude, hopefully).
8/21/2007 7:09:42 PM
The Vikings will be forced to be a running team. Their 2 best offensive players (o-line excluded) are runningbacks. Their QB is a scrambler who can't pass for shit, and when he does pass, it will likely be to the backs. Down the road, this team will be built around Peterson. Would you rather have a stud RB or a stud WR? I think that's what it comes down to, and in most leagues the answer is the back.[Edited on August 21, 2007 at 7:24 PM. Reason : d]
8/21/2007 7:23:29 PM
pick 2, V. Morency, Warrick Dunn, or Chris Brownand why?
8/22/2007 1:30:33 AM
^because its the 9th round and what-the-heck
8/22/2007 1:54:16 AM
^^ I think Warrick Dunn. Why because Morency is not 100% proven and has Jackson splitting time. Granted same goes for Norwood and Dunn but their QB situation is different, Farve or Harrington. Dunn has shined the last few years as a quiet fairly consitent 2nd Fantasy RB. Chris Brown really hasn't done much and Morency may have a good year but I like the approach I did a couple seasons ago where I grabbed C Martin in the 7th round and he was my stud RB that year because everyone was scarred of his age.But to counter my notion of picking Dunn, is that he is slightly banged up and so is Morency, so they may be a toss up. And also since he doesn't have a great QB defenses may be crowding the line and he is definiately not a brusier back that breaks tons of tackles. So I would grabb Morency or Dunn but I am more leaning toward Dunn because of experience.
8/22/2007 9:08:12 AM
VOLCOM, I'm gonna be short and sweet on this one b/c it's a busy day at work...Morency is injured, Dunn is aging, and Brown is part of a 3 man race to be the starter. All of those things considered, I would wait through preseason week 3 (to see what happens to the RB situation in TENN), the if it looks favorable, drop Morency to pick up Brown. It's either going to be Brown or White in Tenn, and with the O-line that they have, the starter will be a solid point producer.Week three is usually the biggest week in the Preseason, so if possible, I would hold out until Friday to make a move. If Brown gets alot of carries this weekend, pick him up!
8/22/2007 9:18:10 AM
I'd pick up lorenzo booker instead of all 3
8/22/2007 9:56:01 AM
Brown is going to be the starter in Tenn
8/22/2007 10:20:12 AM
What is the strategy for salary cap football when you buy a player low, their value skyrockets, and then their bye week comes? Do you take a zero or cut them and screw your advantage for the rest of the season?
8/23/2007 12:20:10 PM
Keep an eye on Donald Driver's ankle in the next few days. He was carted off of the field last night after catching a ball over the middle.Hopefully it's just a mild sprain, but if its anything more than that, he will likely miss time into the regular season.
8/24/2007 10:38:43 AM
8/24/2007 10:45:20 AM
sounds like defense is pretty important...hypothetically lets say the bears beat the packers 17-0and lets say the bears score by field goal, benson rushing td, and defensive INT returnthat would be 20 (shutout) + 12 (spec/def td) = 32 points for defense right?granted shutouts are tough but it seems like defense is fairly important in your league...CHI and BAL are gonna be ballin
8/24/2007 10:57:11 AM
no D is going to have many shutouts in a given year (maybe 1-2), and there are a good number of high scoring D's out there. I would just rather focus my early/mid pics on players I know will produce since this is only an 8 team league.
8/24/2007 11:02:39 AM
