1. OK Computer
2. Kid A and In Rainbows, currently tied after a week of reflection.
3. The Bends (and, I can see putting The Bends tied at 2 as well for the same reasons stated by CalledToArms)
4. HTTT
5. Amnesiac
6. Pablo Honey

And, Amnesiac and HTTT can flip flop a lot for me

I would put In rainbows 3rd, below Kid A / OK and above everything else. It's definitely not as groundbreaking as Kid A / OK, but nevertheless, an awesome album.

I think Amnesiac has some awesome songs, but I just don't think it's as solid from start to finish as many of the others.

Kid A is a great record, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Some people prefer melody to sonic experimentation and in those people, the Bends represents a better album. Pure and simple...let's not try to throw and objective curtain up and dismiss that evaluation. Kid A does a lot of things that lyrically and melodically can not hold up to the Bends in my and others opinions.

the album title can be heard in the backing vocals of Reckoner.

BUT, did anyone notice the

IN RAAAAAAAIN
IN RAAAAAAAIN
IN RAAAAAAAINNNNN IN RAAAAAAAIN
IN RAAAAAAAINBOWS

starts precisely at the albums golden section??? I've got fucking chills; can anyone concur?

The Golden Section, Golden Ratio, whatever you want to call it is appears at 1/1.618, or about 61.8% of a way through of a work of art. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio

In Rainbows is 42m 34s, or 2554 seconds long. 2554/1.618 is the 1578th or so second of the album, which is 2m49s into Reckoner, precisely when the strings come in with the album title."

I wouldn't be surprised if they did it on purpose. One time when I was reading through a Chuck Klosterman book, he described how brilliant all of the band members, constantly reading. I could definitely see them planning that.

The more I listen to this, the more I think that this album is at least on par with any previous release in tems of lyrics. Some of the best writing I've ever seen from them.

Both Ok Computer and In Rainbows consist of 10 letters arranged in similar groupings "OK" & "In" plus "Computer" & "Rainbows".

Therefore Radiohead may have been responsible for the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Isn't it a coincidence that the number between 9 & 11 is (duh duh duh) TEN!.

Adding to the conspiracy. Thom Yorke's solo album is based on the number 9.

Thom Yorke = 9 letters
The Eraser = 9 letters

The album has 9 tracks

AND everyone knows that the number 9 is the most erased digit as it is often confused in sloppy handwriting for a 4 or an upside-down 6.

Hence 9 IS the eraser

HOLY FUCK!

Dunno if anybody's tried the 01 and 10 playlist, but it's actually pretty sweet. Basically, you can alternate the tracks of OK Computer and In Rainbows and it matches up really well.

I've done it, but only on my laptop with shitty speakers... still sounded sweet, though.

I think I'm going to burn two discs, starting disc 2 with "Faust Arp" and play them back to back on better speakers just for the hell of it.

PASTE Magazine, my favorite music magazine, are now doing a "pay your own price" subscription for one year.... the Radiohead trend continues, haha

http://www.pastemagazine.com

Quote :
"NAME YOUR PRICE*
For a limited time, name your own price for a one-year subscription to Paste. Yes, it's up to you. What is a good read and a good listen, delivered to your door once a month, worth to you?

11 issues and 11 CDs (roughly 220 songs) covering the best in music, film and culture. On the newsstand, one year of Paste costs $65.45; one-year subscriptions are $19.95. In February, we will recognize those who pay the most (more than the subscription price) in the magazine—and we even made it easy for you to give gifts.

For more about the Paste Magazine, including previous covers, CD samplers, awards and more, visit our overview."

I paid $10... hell, 11 issues and 11 CD's for that?

Also, after poking around a little bit, there might be some merit to the theory.

Look at Lucky (OKComp) and its transition into Videotape

Lucky:

...
I'm on a roll this time
I feel my luck could change.

Kill me sarah,
kill me again with love,
it's gonna be a glorious day

Pull me out of the aircrash,
Pull me out of the lake,
'cause i'm your superhero,
we are standing on the edge.

The head of state has called for me by name
but I don't have time for him.
It's gonna be a glorious day!
I feel my luck could change.

...

We're standing on the edge...

Videotape:

When I'm at the Pearly Gates
This will be on my videotape
....

This is my way of saying goodbye
Because I can't do it face to face
I'm talking to you after it's too late
From my videotape

No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen.

In Lucky there's mention that "today" will be a glorious day, and in Videotape the speaker affirms that "today" has been the most perfect day he's ever seen. It's a stretch, but if we use that to assume that the speaker in both Lucky and Videotape are the same person, it looks like Lucky talks about the speaker's fall, be it death or out of favor with his lover. There's some romantic interest there, as in Lucky ("Kill me Sarah, Kill me again with love"), and in Videotape the unnamed subject that the speaker is addressing at the end of the song could be that romantic interest ("you are my centre/when I spin away/...this is my way of saying goodbye/because I cant do it face to face/i'm talking to you after its too late")

Is the interpretation of "Lucky" a literal one? Does the speaker actually die in an airplane crash? He does ask Sarah to kill him again, perhaps because he didn't have the chance to say goodbye before he died?

Then, is the interpretation of "Videotape" also literal? The speaker is dead, and his will, or goodbye sentiments, are on a separate tape to be shown in case he dies unexpectedly? Why would he make such a tape?

Anyway, for the purpose of trying to connect the two, it seems to me that Lucky is right before/during the "death" of the speaker, and the first stanza of Videotape:
When I'm at the pearly gates
This will be on my videotape, my videotape
Mephistopheles is just beneath
and he's reaching up to grab me

is the speaker's first reactions to finding that he has died, and the rest of the song a sort of peaceful acceptance that there's nothing he can do.

***ridiculous

From Pitchfork:
Quote :
"On Monday, Boing Boing posted an item about the box set. Yesterday, it was updated with the following:

"A publicity-shy reader writes, 'I think people need to know that the band isn't some greed machine. I can tell you with 100% certainty that EMI is putting out all those reissues without the band's participation, blessing, permission or involvement at all. They are doing it as retribution for the band's decision not to go with them in releasing the new album. Despite their contract being expired, EMI had been counting on the revenue from the forthcoming album. When the band put out the digital version of the album themselves, EMI threatened them with re-releasing their entire catalog on the same day the discbox of IN RAINBOWS was being sent out, Dec 10, unless the band gave EMI the standard physical release of the album. Of course the band/managers told EMI to piss off and were appalled that at such an important point in the band's career that their former partners would do this to them.'"

We checked in with representatives from both the band and the label. According to the Radiohead camp, the box set was indeed not the band's idea. They did not confirm any in-fighting, though. EMI agreed that the box was a label initiative, and said that the band's management was offered the opportunity to participate in the project, but declined. As for the release date, EMI maintained that no maliciousness was intended. Rather, it's simply box set season--who doesn't want to find a nicely packaged multi-CD bundle under the tree on Christmas morning? "
