wal-mart, huh? just like MS getting behind HD-DVD was supposed to win it as the 360 has such a bigger base than the PS3, right?

yeah, if the article i posted is incorrect, thenGAME ON.I still ain't buying either one until one format is the clear winner. I really don't care which one it is.
4/27/2007 9:06:27 AM
blu-ray will probably end up 'winning' or things will go dual format

While obviously not every user of a PS3 will use the blu-ray player for movies, to not count a single one is a pretty funny way to skew the statistics in your favor.
4/27/2007 1:48:33 PM
I guess he wasn't so quick to point out that Blu-Ray has been around for a lot less time than HD-DVD and if they were having such great success, they wouldn't already be behind BR after just 5 real months of BR sales.
4/27/2007 2:25:18 PM
lol that's why i don't think hd will 'win'
4/27/2007 2:57:41 PM
blu-ray has more titles though.i think it says a lot for HD-DVD that they are not far behind with fewer titles to offer.

^ Last I read the PS3 was the highest rated blu-ray player for quality, easy of use, etc and was also the cheapest so I think people have been effectively buying it as a stand alone player. But this is not really something that can be easily measured so who knows how much that actually happens. Also your sales statistic is pretty off for PS3s but I understand the point you are trying to make (DVD sales are so much higher right now).

^ Oh, I missed the part that you were talking about US only. If so that is probably right.
4/27/2007 5:20:41 PM
BluRay has all the content people want at a price they'll tolerate.HD-DVD has their players at a slightly more tolerate price point.

all dvd sales =! HD - BluRay contest
4/30/2007 8:52:46 AM
people w/o high def are trying to say its pointless.like i said earlier i got the hd dvd drive for my xbox because its the cheapest 1080p source i could get.
4/30/2007 9:42:36 AM
^ I have a high def TV and I say its pointless.

I am not sure what this thread is about anymore.
4/30/2007 11:03:11 PM
I'm guessing I will just wait for a few months until I try and decide whether to buy hd-dvd or blu-ray. I really wish one would just bow out for my sake, or at least get the 360 or ps3 to get a dual player
5/2/2007 8:43:41 AM
you have to get a 360 and a plug in accessory box to play hd-dvd content....it is not built in
5/2/2007 3:07:24 PM
I know, either way it would cost about the same for a 360 elite w/hd-dvd or ps3, within 100 at least
5/2/2007 3:13:59 PM
I haven't been paying attention to any of this. Who's winning the format war?
5/22/2007 4:06:55 PM
yeah but that external hd dvd player will also work for you pc too.
5/22/2007 4:17:20 PM
^^bluray is
5/22/2007 6:08:34 PM
i for one am happy bluray is winning...mostly cause it seemed like most wolfwebbers were going with the 360 before the ps3 was released
5/22/2007 6:18:34 PM
You don't make any sense man
5/22/2007 7:15:23 PM
Turning this thread into a PS3 vs 360 argument is retarded. This statement:
5/22/2007 8:16:09 PM
I wonder what the margin is going to look like after the PoC movies finally hit the stores (on blu-ray)...
5/22/2007 9:44:10 PM
There have been rumblings recently that Universal is thinking about jumping ship (the HD-DVD exclusivity ship, that is). It would make sense for them financially, b/c I'm sure they can make a lot more money off Blu-Ray sales than whatever incentive they're getting to remain HD-DVD exclusive.I hope this is true b/c there are lots of good Universal movies. If they do, it's basically lights out for HD-DVD.

very ps3 fanboy A+++++
5/23/2007 12:21:36 PM
honest-to-goodness, i hate blu-ray just because it's sony and sony, as a company in regards to their customers, hates every single one of ushd-dvd players are still waaaaaaaaaay cheaper than blu-ray, but $vermont when you can't even afford (or refuse to pay) $rhodeisland is a moot point, to say nothing of $missouri
5/23/2007 12:30:22 PM
if assassin's creed doesn't come out on 360 or is significantly better on Ps3 due to the larger storage of a Blu-ray Disc i may be purchasing a ps3 soon.

Even if Blu-Ray is winning, it's still winning a miniscule market share. It's kind of like being President of a third-world country. Sure, you're President, but by and large, no one cares.
5/23/2007 6:47:40 PM
Everything i've seen said that blu-ray was winning, but it isn't anywhere NEAR an insurmountable margin. In other words, the "fight" isn't even close to being over yet.
5/23/2007 7:18:07 PM
^ and ^^ are right, but i kind of want blu-ray just for the pirates movies
