I do like how the final epic battle happened at Hogwarts. I was already pissed at Harry for ditching his last year of education to chase the Horcruxes.

Eighth book. Spent his last year at Hogwarts tracking down the diadem. Perhaps saving Snape as headmaster until the eighth year as well to give a slower build up. Not that parts in the 7th weren't already slow enough but it would have been nice to see Harry become a more skilled wizard other than having the luck of his mother's protection persist.
7/30/2007 7:52:14 AM
well, if it makes you feel any better i doubt that they just let Ron, Hermione, and Harry become ministry officials without passing their N.E.W.Ts (5 required, Potions, DaDa, Transfiguration, and Charms plus one other)...And in order to do that, they probably had to go back to school... i'm sure that since the previous Headmaster was the one who'd told them about the quest, the school would let them finish up their 7th year...[Edited on July 30, 2007 at 8:09 AM. i think the Wizarding world owes it to them to let them finish school wouldnt you think?^^ and Harry couldnt go back to school anyway. The school had DeathEaters in it who were looking for Harry anyway. He wouldnt have been safe for a day if he went back. That doesnt make any sense. Unless you are saying change the entire story to have them finish their 7th year then go on the quest. I like that it is unconventional in that they leave school early.
7/30/2007 8:26:04 AM
The death eaters at the school could have been put off until Snape became headmaster. The 7th book could have focused a little more on how the Ministry was taken over. It doesn't matter. What's done is done. I just do not feel as though Harry grew into the exceptionally skilled wizard that you would hope a main character would be after 7 years.
7/30/2007 8:38:59 AM
yeah, as it turns out he had a lot more going for him and protecting him than just his raw talent.Voldemorts soul (can see into his thoughts, which turns out to help Harry more than Voldy)Lily's protection (which is cool he later gives to the school)Invisibility Cloak (which turns out to be a Deathly Hallow)Wand luck (who knew the Elder Wand would have been Harrys?)Dumbledores shared wisdom (the Horcrux mission)The Sword of Gryffindor (which comes to him multiple times)Doby and the House Elves (spies on Malfoy, rescues them from the cellar)Wormtails remorsePlain and simple Luck at timesRon and Hermioneand i think someone said it earlier but where in the hell was fawkes at in this book?
7/30/2007 9:25:14 AM
the book was great, but i was expecting so much more... I thought aunt petunia and dudley were going to play a big role...one of them ending up being a wizard or soemthing...and fawkes...i was disappointed not to learn more about him

Didn't Nagini see them when they were under the invisibility cloak in Godric's Hollow? That part was never explained. The snake should have seen him when he was in the forbidden forest before he died.

you try and pay attention when yo'ure being tossed around above your master's head and he's made it quite clear that he thinks everyone is gunning to kill you

jk rowling chat transcript from july 30, 2007http://www.hpana.com/news.20137.htmlinteresting bit is, she's changed what Ron did after school from the MSNBC interview to the chat...first she said he had become an auror, and helped harry change ministry of magic...in the chat she said he joined the joke shop with george..probably he helped harry, then joined George or something Another question answered:

To make this into a proper movie, they don't have enough time. I mean with all that happens, how in the world can you get it all in? How long and hard hiding in the tent for one thing. I don't think it is possible to get this across and keep everything else in it.All the explanation that goes on in Harry's head must be in the movie. One thing I cant stand about the last film is the lack of telling the audience (especially who haven't read the books) what the significance of what they just happened is.The sixth movie must do all the explaining the fifth one left out as to set up the seventh. It might make for a slower movie, but god damn, spell some shit out.SPELL SOME SHIT OUT!!HAHAHAHAHH I fucking rule[Edited on August 1, 2007 at 7:17 PM. Reason : omg I am so kewl]

i bet she had planned on petunia going to hogwarts even though she wasn't a witch..b/c in the book, petunia did write a letter to dumbledore
8/1/2007 11:24:47 PM
8/2/2007 2:40:42 PM
haha yeah i agree about the superfluous camping focus"we get it- times are tuff"
8/2/2007 2:44:49 PM
i agree....probably the only significant things they should keep from the whole camping thing should be- visit to ministry of magic to get that locket- getting the sword from the lake- visit to godric's hollow- visit to lovegood'still they get to malfoys...then it could get to details...rest can just be in fast forward in the movie...1 month later (nothing)...2 months later (still nothing) kinda thing....because i think those who haven't read the books will anyway not be interested in the trio bickering and stuff....[Edited on August 2, 2007 at 3:28 PM. At the end it states that his scar had not bothered him in however many years.Um, he is no longer connected to Voldemort, even if he came back, it wouldnt tingle. It is very possible that Voldemort could return. But that would be repetative I think. But it could happen.
8/2/2007 4:50:31 PM
^^ gazing into my crystal ball... i see the "ron leaving and harry finding the sword and ron coming back" thing getting squished into one scene...but that would require changing how they do Godric's Hollow...
8/2/2007 5:04:43 PM
^ Since when have the movie screenwriters cared about details like the plot and who did what?
8/2/2007 5:06:11 PM
true...and it's not like they couldn't come up with excuses for why Ron wouldn't be there anyway...or why he would have been off doing something else...never let details get in the way of a good story... as long as they tell a good version of the story i'll be happy

This is a bit after the fact, but how did Draco end up with Dumbledore's wand?I assume that Draco disarmed Dumbledore before getting ready to kill him in book HBP, but I can't remember and it's bugging me
8/15/2007 11:32:53 PM
He didn't end up with Dumbledore's wand (physically) but he won it's allegiance by disarming him. Then Harry won it's allegiance when he conquered Draco by taking his physical wand. Draco never actually had the Elder Wand. The reason that Harry's spell was successful was that the Elder Wand would not curse it's rightful owner, even though Voldemort was wielding it.At least that's the impression I got.
8/15/2007 11:36:34 PM
8/15/2007 11:40:25 PM
Well she did reference it, Harry said that taking the wand forcefully changes the owner of the wand (page 742), and that possession isn't enough. And then he specifically mentions Draco being the true master, and Disarming on page 743 before the showdown. I thought it was clear, anyway.[Edited on August 15, 2007 at 11:49 PM. Reason : .]
8/15/2007 11:48:05 PM
So, wait, every time you get disarmed you lose your wand?Doesn't that happen a whole lot during the course of the series?[Edited on August 15, 2007 at 11:48 PM. Reason : Basically nobody is using their own wand anymore I guess.]
^ No, this is just regarding the Elder Wand's allegiance.
8/15/2007 11:48:51 PM
YOUR MOM THOUGHT IT WAS CLEAR
8/16/2007 12:43:58 AM
Yes. She did.
8/16/2007 12:50:16 AM
My mom has only read the first two.
8/16/2007 12:59:39 AM
^^^ My mom hasn't read it.so THERE
8/16/2007 1:10:06 AM
whatever I should have read the last bit of HBP again but chose to ask tww instead.

^ I left the third movie thinking that the screenwriter and I had read different books where the only things in common where the list of characters.
8/16/2007 1:31:40 PM
really?i left the 3d movie feeling like i'd been told the same story in a different way... sorta like Stardust, it's the same general story and feel, it's just told differently because different mediums lend themselves towards different styles of storytelling...if you just want a frame by frame jump through the book then you shouldn't go to the theater at all, because you're never going to get it outside of a bbc miniseries[Edited on August 16, 2007 at 2:35 PM. Reason : american miniseries tend to vere wildly away from books]
8/16/2007 2:35:09 PM
the only thing wrong in the third movie was the crappy cgi werewolf
8/16/2007 3:55:06 PM
i've got no arguement there... i don't think i've ever envisioned werewolves as anything but big, fluffy, and drooly (yeah, in the books they're just regular wolves)...the whole anorexic furless werewolf doesn't really cut it...
8/16/2007 5:06:08 PM
ok, how the hell did the sorting hat get the sword of griffypants back??? that goblin thing at the bank grabbed that shit and skadattled. why would it randomly end up back in that hat???
8/21/2007 6:25:08 PM
Because the sword will present itself to any true Gryffindor who is in need.
8/21/2007 7:03:51 PM
that's some bullshit. how the hell is a sword going to present its self when the goblijew has it???
8/21/2007 9:21:25 PM
short answer: a wizard did itlonger answer: gryffindor enchanted his hat so that it could summon his sword no matter where it was if one of his students had need of it.it's pretty simple. the real question is, could a ravenclaw or hufflepuff student pull one of their respective artifacts from it if the need arose? it would've saved everyone some trouble if luna could just pull the diadem out of the hat[Edited on August 21, 2007 at 9:48 PM. Reason : though, I guess to be fair, they'd still have to break into snape's office for it]
8/21/2007 9:47:21 PM
^ good question...i wouldn't have worried too much about them having to break into snape's office... based on the "punishment" that he doled out to Ginny and Neville i doubt he was keeping too tough of a lock on the door...
8/22/2007 12:06:01 PM
Here's my questions regarding, I guess the last 3 books:In this colossal fight against Voldemort, why didnt Dumbledore or the ministry of magic ever once attempt to enlist muggle help? Why did no one attempt to use muggle weapons (I doubt even pomfrey could fix a headshot)In the fight scenes, where the Order was fighting for their lives, why did they not attempt to kill the Death Eaters, knowing that when they escaped, they would just live to fight another day? I kinda grew tired of reading about all the stunning spells/jinxes that were being tossed about. Why did no one attempt to enlist help from wizards of other countries besides the UK?
8/22/2007 1:31:57 PM
8/22/2007 1:53:02 PM
Well, Rowling kinda blurred the line b/t good and evil with Snape, why not do the same with white hats?War is war, no matter how good somebody is, you have to take your enemy out
8/22/2007 2:32:29 PM
well...dumbledore said himself, "there are some things worse than death"... A death eater would probably rather die than be brought to justice, etc..
8/22/2007 4:01:40 PM
they did kill some of them... lestrange was killed by mrs weasley... pretty explicitly toothe book just doesnt mention the others or play them up
8/22/2007 4:39:05 PM
- "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!"Most embarrassing part of all seven books. Made it seem like rowling wrote that line specifically for the movie. I can already imagine faggots clapping and cheering when she says this. It would have been better if Mrs. Weasley were black and she yelled, "AWWW, HELL NO!"- I don't see what the hubbub over the last line was -- it wasn't especially inspired.- Funny to see people complain about the epilogue -- Rowling said she wrote that shit in the early 1990s when she was inexperienced. "At one point, I thought Teddy was snogging his own cousin." -- yeah, had to read that about five times to figure it out.- Even if they cut out all that lame ass camping crap, it will be tough to fit this into 3 hours.- The trailer-trash-looking, bad actress in the movie not withstanding, Luna Lovegood is clearly the best character in the series.[Edited on September 23, 2007 at 4:57 AM.
