^ Hmm... I thought that might have been a post on the Statefans freeboard or something... i was going to completely dismiss it. Figured it was a Tarhole screwing with everyone. Not that SFN is much more reliable than Statefans or Insidecarolina, but I guess anything that looks like good news works for me. +

Can someone tell me why hire Nineas if Cowher and PJ are choice 1a. and 1b.? Is he merely a 35K hedge if PJ does not take the job?
11/29/2006 1:52:37 PM
It's also to avoid the debaucle that occured when Fowler took on the task of finding our basketball coach. Using this firm means there won't be any media leaks or any bs like that. Basically, we won't find out who is being offered the job, who has turned it down, etc until we announce our replacement coach. Even if Cowher has been offered the job and has refused, we still won't hear about it until we name our coach.
11/29/2006 1:56:26 PM
^bingo. beat me to it1) It would look stupid for us if both turned us down. Imagine we hire Neinas 3 weeks from now becuase PJ and BC said no.... how would that look? PANIC MODE. I doubt Neinas is even talking to Cowher.... I bet it's our guys, but why not hire him now so we don't look (possibly) stupid down the road? 2) He not only helps select candidates, he helps negotiate contracts and such... so whoever we decide to hire, he will help with the contract. I think after the bball coaching search, we just didn't trust Fowler. We hire Neinas now to make sure we look under every rock.... and also just in case 1a and 1b turn us down.... we don't face the embarrasment of waiting 3-4 weeks to hire him and tipping off the media that things aren't going as plannedThat would remind us of the basketball fiasco[Edited on November 29, 2006 at 1:58 PM. What are the chances the another candidate (one that has yet to be mentioned) emerges as the hire?[Edited on November 29, 2006 at 2:12 PM. Reason : g]

just to throw this out thereyou guys need to be cautious as to what you read and believe. StateFansNation, PackPride, 850thebuzzblog are all notorious for throwing ideas out there and hoping one of them actually happens, then they can claim they had inside info. It is all just speculation and none of them have any credible info at this point.

I want to hear more talk about Norm Chow for Head Coach... I personally would rather have him than Navy's coach. At least then we would be able to coach our qb's properly (such as Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Phillip Rivers, Carson Palmer,Matt Leinart).I know ASU wants him as well but I really think he would be a great choice for our head coach.
11/29/2006 2:27:22 PM
most people see Norm as an offensive mind, he tried the HC thing at BYU although most people dont know that either.these things arise with talks of Chow as HC:1.) Little HC experience2.) not the personality of a HC3.) getting up there in age to start a stint as a HC4.) defense??5.) ability to recruit??[Edited on November 29, 2006 at 2:42 PM. Reason : ??]

PJ>>CHOW for HCCoordinators are the real questions.
11/29/2006 2:46:22 PM
Guys, PAUL JOHNSON is who we want; I PROMISEHe has gone on the record as saying he wouldn't run a full option attack if he had Tom Brady at QB; he has said that he does like some of the principles however and prob. would use some of them at whereever he wasLook at what it does for Wake Forest; they run a version and it is hard to stopWVU and Florida run a version and it is hard to stop (Florida's will improve greatly when Tebow is their full time QB)Johnson's hand is forced b/c he is at Navy and that is the only chance he has to winCan you imagine a version of his offense here though with brown, baker, blackman coming around the edge and then our corps of receivers to throw the ball down the field too. I envision some great things. Another HUGE plus, he would bring instant DISCIPLINE. He does not tolerate mistakes. I was watching a portion of the ND Navy game on TV this past year and at Navy they teach the cut blocking scheme. A lot of people think it is dirty in some respects, but if done legally is fair and doesn't result in injuries. Anyway, one of his players got called for clipping (a common penalty w/ that blocking scheme and one you would expect to happen occasionally) and then they showed Johnson on the sideline and he absolutely LAID INTO that player. It was incredible. I would love to have Paul Johnson here; he is a proven winner at every place he has been and would adapt his offense to fit personnel.

regarding ASU i thought this was funny

It seems obvious that we have no confidence in Lee Fowler. If he isnt getting us a new coach then what the F**k else does he do to deserve his job?
11/29/2006 3:21:48 PM
He's shakes a lot of peoples' hands and makes a lot of statments. He's the best bullshitter which isn't necessarily a bad thing in the public eye.
11/29/2006 3:31:48 PM
lets seesoftball coach, baseball coach, tennis facilities, baseball upgrade, basketball practice facilities, lifetime rights, theres a few more things but thats just off the top of my head of a few of the things Lee has done here lately.most people just see basketball and football and fail to realize we have a lot of other revenue sports at State.
11/29/2006 3:44:36 PM
11/29/2006 4:08:20 PM
im not saying they support the othersi am just saying that they are REVENUE sports like they actually have scholarships to give, people that follow them and what not...im not tryin to say they are our prime marketing tools.I forgot to throw in the new soccer place by the way.

Hire Jimbo
11/29/2006 5:11:42 PM
i know we arent likely to hear anything from anyone because of the firm we hired but its an article on the search so i figured id post.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2680175

around the horn 3 minutes
11/29/2006 5:18:36 PM
Im going on record as saying I dont want Norm Chow.
11/29/2006 5:19:26 PM
if its a package deal like they supposedly threw out there to UNC before Davis im really interested in the OC and DC from LSU. That would be a solid hire since we have no offense and we lost a great defensive mind in Chuck.
11/29/2006 5:20:58 PM
11/29/2006 5:22:16 PM
Wow, going from Chuck Amato on Saturday to "I don't want Norm Chow" is a lot of confidence. Maybe, not my first choice but damn.

Cower reported saying not coming to State....http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/today/s_481956.html
11/29/2006 5:23:43 PM
Hire Jimbo.
11/29/2006 5:24:35 PM
Chow is old and never been a HC before. I want someone who has at least been a HC somewhere in the college ranks. How did the last long time coordinator who never had been a HC turn out for us??
11/29/2006 5:25:25 PM
HIRE JIMBO, NEINAS
11/29/2006 5:26:02 PM
^^ Why don't you ask Notre Dame how hiring a long time OC- never been a HC worked out for them. Pretty Damn well, I think. Not saying I think Chow should be our #1, but to base your whole reasoning on Amato not working out is stupid.
11/29/2006 5:31:54 PM
^thats putting the cart ahead of the horse, Ty Willingham did essentially the same thing. Lets see how he does sans Quinn
11/29/2006 5:33:49 PM
JIMBO
11/29/2006 5:33:51 PM
If you wouldn't take Chow as NCSU's next head coach, you probably do not have any reason to be typing in this chat. Check out his accomplishment and give Philip Rivers a call on what Norm can do for a team. I don't think you hang around college football for the years that Chow did without learning a thing or two about how to be a head coach. Dumb asses http://usctrojans.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/chow_norm00.html
11/29/2006 5:35:24 PM
^^^ Maybe so. Maybe ND will never return to the greatness they once achieved, but I can tell you one thing. If whoever our new coach is right away produces two seasons like what they just had, I will pee my pants.[Edited on November 29, 2006 at 5:36 PM. Reason : d]

11/29/2006 5:57:22 PM
Yeah, I'm a dumbass since I didn't think that we would hire the coach of last years Super Bowl Champs or an obvious OC-only. I'll be happy (and any knowledgeable fan should as well) with Fisher or Johnson. Cutcliffe is stretchin it, bigtime.
11/29/2006 5:58:02 PM
Hell, maybe Chow ends up here as OC... but I highly doubt it. Everything points to AZ State.Fisher would probably bring the DC from LSU with him, Bellini or something.
11/29/2006 5:58:57 PM
getting the DC from lsu would be fanfuckingtastic no matter who the HC iseven better if they've worked together before
