4/5/2007 1:41:18 PM
Theres another one in N. Hills Mall, next to the movie theater
4/5/2007 1:42:23 PM
4/5/2007 1:43:47 PM
If you like 2 pounds of salt on your meal you will enjoy Q-Shack
4/5/2007 1:46:23 PM
Anyone heard anything recently about Amore's? Is it just never reopening?
4/5/2007 1:50:19 PM
I encourage anyone interested in hillsborough street revitalization to write articles for the tech just to keep the story alive, to patronize the shops/restraints there more frequently, and to PM TGD if you are interested in working with student gov on this issue. Also the new student body pres was the pro wolfline bus to downtown thing… we’ll see how that goes.
4/5/2007 2:11:18 PM
hillsborough will never thrive as long as board bucks exist.[Edited on April 5, 2007 at 2:15 PM. Reason : .]
4/5/2007 2:14:45 PM
and board bucks would never be able to compete with Hillsborough if it is revitatilized because board bucks is one of the biggest scams this school has ever pulled...I love how they used to round up the cost of shit in the c stores
4/5/2007 2:36:16 PM
i disagree. freshmen are going to get board bucks. period. it doesn't matter if hillsborough st is a damn oasis.it is unfair competition and probably a good 1/3 of the student population doesn't even go to hillsborough st for lunch because of it.
4/5/2007 2:41:55 PM
It would be nice though if the university had some deal with all the Hillsborough st. businesses that allowed students to use board bucks at those locations...They had/have something like that for the AllCampus card already i think but this would be better, IMO
4/5/2007 2:48:43 PM
i brought this up to a friend the other night. and she brought up the good point that most of the buildings on campus open into campus, not towards hillsborough st. hell the library even HAS an entrance/exit towards hillsborough st that they leave locked. little things like this might do a lot to get actually going to hillsborough st on people's minds.[Edited on April 5, 2007 at 2:52 PM. Reason : 's]
4/5/2007 2:52:23 PM
I wonder if security is part of the reason for that... since Hillsborough is a freak/hobo magnet at night time.not to mention all the muggings that have gone on at the ATMs [Edited on April 5, 2007 at 2:55 PM. Reason : .]
4/5/2007 2:55:00 PM
we talked about that too. they could just have both entrances open until 6pm or something
4/5/2007 2:55:33 PM
yeah they need to clean up hboro(hobos, etc) if they want more people to go there
4/5/2007 2:56:05 PM
i don't think hobos are much of a detractor. there are far more on franklin st. and people still go there.[Edited on April 5, 2007 at 2:56 PM. Reason : n't]
4/5/2007 2:56:36 PM
that would be better than nothing. Or they could send the campus police to that side of campus instead of harrassing the students for minor bullshit
4/5/2007 2:56:44 PM
i should direct tgd to this thread so he can get the student gov't to talk about it and then have no say in the matter to the raleigh city council
4/5/2007 2:57:53 PM
^4 there's plenty of beggars on franklin streetspeaking of amore's i saw some activity in there today...looked like some large-scale stuff was being unpacked and delivered[Edited on April 5, 2007 at 2:58 PM. Reason : +]
4/5/2007 2:58:00 PM
I will admit, alot of the hobos I have encountered were pretty nice...But I have also seen some of them throw food at passerbys when being refused moneyThe issue is much broader than just NCSU and Hillsborough and I understand this. More police may be the answer though
4/5/2007 2:58:59 PM
4/5/2007 3:00:38 PM
I have already point TGD this way.

Businesses prepare for Hike nightStudents ready to flood the street for the biannual Hillsborough Hikehttp://www.technicianonline.com/Maybe this will bring renewed attention to the need for the improvement of our college street.

Hillsborough St made the tech's top story again today with its year in review:

^Nice...I was hoping someone would buy that building. The land may have issues, but as a building, it's a solid, brick building in good shape with large windows. And, of course, there's the iconic sign...no way the sign would pass current zoning regulations, but hopefully they could get a variance for historic value or something to leave the sign in place...Hillsborough Street would lose a little of its soul if the big yellow bulldozer goes away.
6/7/2007 11:44:18 PM
does anybody have a pic of the yellow bulldozer building?
6/8/2007 11:38:12 PM
there are more bums on hillsborough street then where I liveand I live in NYCso yes there is a bum problem. Not nearly as bad as Franklin street tho.
6/9/2007 9:24:45 AM
i bet when i'm markos age and some 21 year old comes up to me and says they might be renovating hboro st. i'm gonna be like they been saying that shit for years
6/9/2007 12:43:02 PM
god you are so wise
6/9/2007 8:12:24 PM
as to a pic of the yellow bulldozer, found this one (not of my taking...) In other news, looks like we've lost Raleigh Joe's. What started as "we will be closed for 2 weeks during intersession" turned into indefinite closure, and at this point it looks like the electricity's been cut off. I still fail to understand how 47 pizza places can get enough business to stay open (and another one is moving in!) but we can't keep a place that serves BBQ.
6/9/2007 8:27:11 PM
NCSU students clearly have discriminating tastes
6/9/2007 8:28:49 PM
because their bbq sucked complete ass
6/9/2007 8:31:56 PM
^^^ damn look at all those power lines in that picturethats why the street looks so god awful
6/9/2007 8:41:33 PM
I won't say it was really good bbq, but it wasn't bad either. Some of the sides were good as well...the hot subs weren't bad...I actually can't think of anywhere else on Hillsborough that serves fried okra, either. And yes--the power lines are one of the MAJOR things that make Hillsborough Street so ugly. I think they're supposed to bury the power lines down by the Bell Tower in the improvements that recently got put through; hopefully they'll go all the way to the Gorman intersection eventually.
6/9/2007 8:45:55 PM
wtf...Raleigh Joes is gone
6/9/2007 9:54:43 PM
im glad im done with raleighbut there are a few things that ill miss
6/11/2007 12:49:12 PM
Raleigh Joe's sucked anyway. Where the hell is my Amore's that I've been promised for a year?
6/11/2007 4:01:54 PM
6/11/2007 5:17:15 PM
Raleigh Joe's was terrible....Q-Shack was ON TIME. Its a shame they had to go and ruin it by trying to take control of every food choice imaginable. Tuesday special: Chicken mesquite sandwich with mac-n-cheese and hushpuppies with a sweet tea for $5.35....damn that was good.

Public hearings? Opportunity to voice concerns? Do they really need more meetings for that. An individual roundabout isn't that big of a deal. This project will go over budget on meeting times alone before it even really gets started. I'm all for this project, but its time to move towards the action phase... considering revamping hillsborough st has been going on for years now.
8/14/2007 5:43:18 PM
i was looking at the map of this area and i don't see why if they're going to make Morgan a two-way street, why they don't just turn it a little more and have it intersect at a right angle with hillsborough street and put a stoplight there? seems like it would be a lot less trouble.
8/14/2007 5:49:27 PM
So did anybody actually go to the meeting? I'd like to hear some feedback on how it went.
8/15/2007 7:38:25 PM
Rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble...
8/15/2007 8:15:53 PM
8/15/2007 9:26:58 PM
holy crap. they were talking about this 10 years before i started college, looks like they are still going to be talking about it 10 years after i finished college. i heard nc state is getting a hotel and golf course too seriously, i didn't read the thread, has there been any real progress made?
8/15/2007 9:51:57 PM
Yeah, from my freshman year at NCSU in Fall of 1998, until graduating year.....there really hasnt been taht many changes aesthetically speaking.... the plusses___________ -Two guys Pizza -The bookstore which was cheaper then the NCSU bookstore -taht really out of place and fancy restaurant on Hillsborough street that really didnt fit in but served good food the minuses ___________-the crappy pot holes on Hillsborough st....i mean come on...can someone re-pave the whole fucking road!-all the buildings look the same-traffic does kind of suck for pedestrians**I wonder if it would help if there was a pedestrian ramp which went from the Library, and two other places from camps to the other side of Hillsborough St., that way the students could get to the other businesses of interest, and the numerous daily traffic. Maybe one day when my kids are freshman at NCSU, Hillsborough ST. will look differently...
8/15/2007 10:55:23 PM
^^Don't forget about the monorail that is going to connect main and Centennial campus.
8/16/2007 9:14:48 AM
8/16/2007 9:54:45 AM
well, the monorail was supposed to connect all the colleges, IIRC
