well, they kept adding hardware features to the wiimote, ps3 is practically out of the picture, so really they have their reasons.

The launch titles were ALWAYS in launch WINDOW. its about 5 weeks....zelda will ship just before the holidays no doubt.
9/14/2006 1:52:38 AM
They promised us that the Wii would be under 250! That's friggin gay. I had my heart set on a 220 price..and i dont really care about Wii sports.
9/14/2006 2:54:23 AM
Yep. Under $250. As in $249.99. Fuckin gay Dunno why I'm surprised though
9/14/2006 2:59:06 AM
BTW, Wii sports WILL NOT come bundled:http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/14/nintendo-wii-november-19th-250/
9/14/2006 8:42:59 AM
I'm waiting on official press conference to believe ANYTHING reported.
9/14/2006 8:50:53 AM
9/14/2006 8:57:09 AM
price is $250haha, told you so!hopefully the info is wrong, none of this really impresses me.
9/14/2006 9:03:56 AM
The official announcement will be at noon today although I believe the leaked sources.
9/14/2006 9:08:12 AM
I believe the leaks MAY be true, but I still have my doubts. The only official word is that it will be released in Japan on Dec 2nd, and I find it really hard to believe that we'd get it here before they got it there. Unless Nintendo is really going after Microsoft on this one and trying to get all the American market share possible.
9/14/2006 9:13:57 AM
Nacho, there's an easy answer:Thanksgiving/Black FridayThat's when they get the most sales, so they have to have it on the shelf by then. That's why we're taking priority.Japan's hot sales period is right before the summer, if the Wii were luanching closer to that window, they would get it first. It's all economics.
9/14/2006 9:17:35 AM
BOO!it's official now, Nov. 19th @ $250 w/ Wii Sports bundledTwilight Princess + Excite truck ON LAUNCH DAY.

9/14/2006 9:51:12 AM
yikes, bogus news, but it's good, cause Wii Sports is included now for $250:http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/14/wii-packaging-revealed-wii-sports-bundled/I gotta find out when my local EBGames starts taking pre-orders...
9/14/2006 9:58:48 AM
I honestly can't believe they are only giving people one Wii Controller... the whole premise of the system was multiple people coming together for fun games. You just know Microsoft is going to drop the price on the Core console to match Nintendo and wouldn't surprise me if they bundle something like Kameo or PGR3.
9/14/2006 10:02:50 AM
^ Couldn't agree more. $250 isn't $250. You hafta buy another controller (I know, every console does this, but the Wii was FOCUSED on multi-player and would've garnered mass praise if they broke the mold and tossed in 2 controllers) and you even hafta use Wii Points to d/load the Opera internet browser (no free internet?)$250 sounds ahight now, but when the core 360 tanks to near $250 and maybe includes some sweet extras, it'll be different. The only reason I'm still (probably) on the bandwagon to buy one is that my wife would actually play this with me.Well I'll be....
9/14/2006 10:08:35 AM
yeah, I agre. This announcement was really dissapointing.Should've bundled an extra controller, should make the extra controllers cheaper, VC games are priced a tad bit too high, you gotta PAY FOR OPERA??!?!?!all said + done, it's not really all that cheap. And I was hoping it owuld come sooner. But watch, everyone will be singing Nintendo's praises anyway. It's the cool thing to do nowadays.I'll be getting one anyway, for the record.
9/14/2006 10:30:51 AM
9/14/2006 10:53:21 AM
so you pay 500 wii points and you get ALL the NES games they release that month?
9/14/2006 10:56:35 AM
They are actually pretty smart to do this. They have spent like the past year hyping this thing up like crazy and getting price speculations between $99 and $300 to the point where tons of people have already gotten excited and in the "I'm getting one no matter what" mindset. So they just add to the price a bit because they know all those people will be getting it anyway.
9/14/2006 10:57:12 AM
I was hoping that the system would be $200, but with the extra game, I'll accept $250.It is Wi-Fi ready though, so I would guess you could compare the Wii to the Premium X-box before you compare it to the Core system.I'm going to hate having to shell out some $$ to get 2 or 3 controllers though. And we're not even getting into all the other plastic perephrials that will be released soon (gun, wheel, whatever).Opera may not be free, but I don't need a browser on my Wii when I have a laptop. The VC prices aren't too bad. I mean, the GBA was selling remakes of Super Mario 3 for $30. I'd only get the handful of games I really liked through the years.I'll still be getting one.One thing's for certain: Sony really shot themselves in the foot with their system. Nintendo left the gate late for the last generation and they finished in last. Lets see if Sony repeats.
9/14/2006 11:04:58 AM
It wasn't the slam dunk I was hoping for, but I'm pretty happy at the moment. We know Zelda will be there on launch day and Wii Sports as a pack-in game is nice, but the controller pricing is bad and the $250 for the console is disappointing. Photo features are ok, but not a big deal. Zelda pretty much guarantees the system will sell out, especially in Japan. Next year they can drop the price and not lose anything. VC prices seem very reasonable to me, especially if they put in some online functionality.
9/14/2006 11:07:18 AM
^^^ Precisely. The brains behind this are genious. They launch 2 days after the PS3 launches (on eBay, mind you at a 300% markup since they'll be none in stores anywhere), and mom goes in to get lil kiddie a PS3, but instead find a stack of Wiis at less than half the price.Christmas shopping done. It's brilliant on Nintendo's part, as they WILL outsell the PS3 / 360 through Q1 '07, but after these little strategic moves to sell more consoles goes away, they'll fall away again, per usual. One thing I was REALLY expecting is Nintendo to actually embrace online gaming this time around. Now I hear Pokemon is the 1st online title, not slated 'til next year? You mean the Wii's Madden '07 isn't online capable. Bump that. While I desperately wanted to love this thing so I'd have a console my wife would actually play as well, I'm not so sure anymore. No HD (this is crucial, I rarely watch any channel not in HD 'cause it just looks awful)Massively expensive controller / VC titlesNo "real" online gaming factorSo it leaves me wanting a PS3, but even if I can get a 2nd mortgage for the $600 console, I'll bet the games are $65+.Maybe it's just time to leave gaming [Edited on September 14, 2006 at 11:10 AM. 9/14/2006 11:08:17 AM
The only thing I am dissapointed in is the price of the controller
9/14/2006 11:13:37 AM
Im sticking with the Wii because its cheaper and i like nintendo's first party games.
9/14/2006 11:13:59 AM
Any news about whether GC controllers will work with Wii yet? I had heard it was something they were planning on implementing at one point. So, even if I can't get a bunch of WiiMotes, I will be able to play GC multiplayer on the system and other multiplayer games that come out on Wii and don't use the WiiMote (ie SSBB).
9/14/2006 11:15:59 AM
It does suck that 3rd party games will likely be $59.99 since they'll have to be consistent across all three major consoles.^ I'm guessing that the "Standard" controller is the gamecube type controller. Being sold for $20, I think.[Edited on September 14, 2006 at 11:16 AM. Reason : carrot]
9/14/2006 11:16:03 AM
I'm pretty sure it still has controller slots for Gamecube controllers so people can play things like SSM:B with their old controllers and also things like Donkey Konga/Jungle Beat with the Bongos
9/14/2006 12:33:12 PM
^^When they announced Smash Bros. Brawl, one of the developers said to hold on to your GC controllers. I don't know if we should take that as confirmation or not. They also have another standard controller shell with a diamond formation of buttons.^^Not necessarily. It's hard for a 3rd party company to justify charging $60 for a game that looks like an enhanced Xbox game.At first I was disappointed that I have to wait until November 19, but that gives me plenty of time for Okami, FF XII, and Guitar Hero II.

^ WTF kinda excuse is that? This very same thing could've been said for EVERY console ever made!Nobody wants to haul their controllers around, and what if your friend is *GASP* your wife/S.O./child?
9/14/2006 1:12:33 PM
Who plays video games with their wives or girlfriends?

Here's what I want to know:when you download the VC games, where are they stored, if at all?Do they store on the internal flash memory?Do they stay in your account, and then download when you want to play? (possible since they're all relatively small roms)Can you put them on the SD cards? If it is all online, as I suspect it probably is, that kind of sucks taht you have to be connected to play.If it isn't, what happens when you run out of memory?
9/14/2006 1:39:53 PM

9/14/2006 2:30:33 PM
^ SD card, yo
9/14/2006 2:30:57 PM
^^ there are only 30 right now.
9/14/2006 2:34:05 PM
^^ you really think they're gonna let you put them on SD cards, and have their ROMs "in the wild"?? Think again.^granted, there are 30 now. But they're releasing 10 new one a month (or is it 5). Eventually, there will be enough out there that you will run out of room. I just NEED TO KNOW what would happen. I realize it's kinda like "what would happen if everyone on earth jumped at the same time", but I just have to know.
