"and Roy said, "I don't give a shit about Carolina.""

No, he said, "I could give a shit about North Carolina right now. I've got thirteen kids in that locker room that I love."

The timing of the question was inappropriate, and that's what illicited the response, not because he had no interest in the job. Barnes stated rather explicitly that he had no interest in the ACC at this time. You've got to think that Texas would like to keep him. They're not as stupid as we are.

I just don't see why Barnes would want to leave Texas unless all of his players are leaving, because he has a really good team in his hands right now.

Isn't it obvious? He wants to come to a job where he won't be appreciated! Coaching at a school that supports its coach just isn't challenging enough.

His wife did say that at one point, a few years back.

However, we cannot outbid Texas. I don't think anyone can. If he were to come it would be "A great job" vs. "A more satisfying job". It wouldn't be about the money, IMO

i don't want rick barnes. and even if i did, he won't leave texas.

-he has a recruiting advantage in the region
-he has a good program that appears to be getting better
-we are at best the 3rd school recruits would want to come to in our region
-we have a restless fanbase that will put unwanted pressure on any coach
-a new coach here would struggle just to even come close to duplicating herb's success within his first few years, much less improve on it.

barnes isn't coming, and neither is anyone else that is a proven good coach on this level.

ok so the reason we would deny a proven winner that has nearly made a final four and could win with our players right away is cause we are bitter about herb's offense

ok

are you sure that we have the players?

we don't know who we have right now until a new coach is hired and the players make their decisions. and i agree that we can win with a different offense with the guys that were on the roster a week ago. it just depends on who we get as the new coach.

i'm just not very optimistic about our chances of getting a proven winner here.

ok, so I know I'm out of the loop and haven't read most of this thread...

but, didn't someone say not too long ago that Bob Knight would like to coach in the ACC because he doesn't like Roy or coach K?

if that were the case, we need to start writing him ..he would be a badass coach

I'm almost 100 percent sure that K and Knight are good friends, considering K is a spitting image of Knight without the media blow ups and chair throwing, and he learned everything he knows from Knight.

Just a guess though.

^^Knight hates K

He liked him until K started being an ungodly coach, then he wouldn't even shake his hand after games. When pupil beats professor, Knight gets pissed. He's taken a few stabs at K accusing him of "forgetting where he came from"

he might leave some other time, but not right now.

We wouldnt really hire Monte Towe would we?

I just heard his name mentioned. He's been around a bunch as an assistant, and has a 500 record at NO. That might be a bad move. The old fans who were on Herb couldnt run his ass out of town if he sucked, and we might be digging by hiring him.

Of course, he's a Sloan protoge, so maybe he really can coach.

I say we go after Jeff Beilein at WVU, despite the fact that he runs a similar style, and you people hate it. fuck it, i like the offesive style when it scored points.

I mean, the guys already know it, the recruits like it, and his teams obviously run it better than Herb's.
