4/26/2006 12:16:44 AM
mess up the camera by going too deep into the body of the camera, the mirror can hit it and stuff, can cause damage, depending on your model(im referring to stuff like the peleng 8mm)-ZiP!-
4/26/2006 12:21:45 AM
well, they've got lots of sites with info, apparently some cameras are OK with it.but reading more and more, it was enough to talk me out of the option, unfortunately ya get what you pay for in this world-ZiP!-

Who wants to go on a photo walk in Raleigh sometime relatively soon?Anyone?
4/26/2006 12:36:02 AM
I'm thinking downtown, or farmer's market, or something.
4/26/2006 12:44:29 AM
I'd do my best to help out with pointers. The whole point is to share ideas/tips/tricks/etc... and since shooting around town can be boring on your own.

god damn thats a nice camera
4/28/2006 4:27:08 PM
You get what you pay for. In his case, for a 5D, about 3 grand.
4/28/2006 7:18:36 PM
5D is no joke
4/28/2006 7:18:59 PM
I'd like one, but if I'm going to spend more then 1500 on a camera, I'm going to save for a 1d Mark II N.
4/28/2006 7:20:55 PM
i totally wanted to shoot in the lightningdo you use a cable or handheld on the tripod?
4/28/2006 7:22:05 PM
Flash: what lens? the 5D seems awesome
4/28/2006 7:31:38 PM
12-24... thats my guess!cuz i just played with that one today... and it is sweeeeeeeeet
4/28/2006 7:32:17 PM
For the lightning shots I used:Canon 5DCanon 17-40mm f/4LTripod (obviously)Remote shutter release (TC-80N3)patienceThe 17mm is very wide on the full frame 5D, although its not completely detectable in those photos. 17mm on the 5D is equivalent to about 10mm on a 1.6x cropped sensor (350D, 20D, 30D, etc). But its not like you have to have a nice camera to shoot lightning, I have plenty of shots I got with one of my older ghettoer cameras.
4/29/2006 12:38:58 AM
oh yeah, forgot about the whole full frame thing.ok, i'm gonna put some stuff up by the end of the week guys... i promise... kinda

http://www.rentglass.com/welcome.aspxI think I'm going to try this out this summer. Prices aren't bad in the long run. For must of them you can rent a lens for 6 months for the price of buying, so if you need a lens for a specific event or to play with before you buy, it might be rad. Since I'll be home for a month this summer, I am going to get a 2x tc and the 400mm L and get some shots of surfers. It should be bright enough out where stopping it down due to the tc shouldn't make a huge deal.

haha, nice man -- yah, thats all i've been using so far - a d50 with 18-55 and 55-200 lenskeep 'em comin!-ZiP!-
5/1/2006 8:06:11 PM
took these with my Canon 1D this weekend on a trip to Asheville. I don't shoot a lot of nature photography so I was please to see they turned out halfway decent.
5/1/2006 8:13:49 PM
Yeah, Im loving my d50. unfortunately, i only have the 18-55 kit lens. Waiting for more money to get a telephoto lens.Zip hows the 55-200?
5/1/2006 8:39:11 PM
^^cool man, looks like they turned out well^i'm pretty happy with it - although, i haven't played around with the really pricey zoom lenses. it's really easy to get right up on someone from far away with it -- i shot this with the 55-200:unless its bright, outdoor light, you've gotta hold the camera super, super steady (if not resting it on something) while zoomed in, any vibration is kinda amplified in terms of the lens shaking.-ZiP!-
5/1/2006 9:47:13 PM
I can't post what I've taken lately but the 85mm f1.8 and the 50mm f1.8 are awesome lenses.[Edited on May 1, 2006 at 10:31 PM. Reason : especially the 85]
5/1/2006 10:30:57 PM
ill upload more in the next couple days when she emails em all to me....that one i just posted was taken out a car window though, ahhahahanice fuckin camera
5/1/2006 11:59:05 PM
These pictures are awesome. I've been eager to get a digital SLR for a long time, but my budgest has forbid it. However after reading this thread I think I'm gonna make it happen I'm thinking about getting the D50, since it's the closest to my price range. The only thing that concerns me is the zoom... my current 2megapixel camera has a 10x optical zoom, which I use quite a bit. What sort of lens would I need to get to have an equivalent 5-6x zoom? How much would something like this cost?[Edited on May 3, 2006 at 12:17 PM. Reason : ]
5/3/2006 12:15:57 PM
trust mejust get the camerayou'll forget everything about that 2 megapixel "10x zoom"
5/3/2006 12:17:03 PM
5/3/2006 12:19:38 PM
i was downtown taking pictures of unsuspecting people from far away, i wanna get those and post em.
5/3/2006 12:23:51 PM
The lack of zoom with the standard lens isn't something that would deter me from buying the camera... I'm just trying to guage the total cost, since I think the zoom is something I would have to have.
5/3/2006 12:25:37 PM
what i'm saying isthe fact that you're used to a camera using X for magnification means you'll likely be happy with any kit lens
