yeah i used to see him at Bobcats games gettin kinda tipsygreat news about him getting cleaned up though...he was a question mark...our defense is completely different with him in the middle...a healthy Jenks and Kimo would be so nasty
5/16/2006 10:31:43 AM
run s-t-u-f-f-e-r-s. just imagine how a healthy d-line would free up our backers. Morgan will be takin' heads off. I would still like to see us pick up a vet LB though.
5/16/2006 10:37:13 AM
well we did get a couple in free agency...guy from philly...couple others
5/16/2006 10:38:37 AM
after reading that jenkins article i was really happy, but at the same time they printed the same article almost verbatim at the beginning of last year if anyone remembers. that said, i'll take jenkins just as long as he can produce like he did in '03.
5/16/2006 10:43:57 AM
the main difference i recall in the jenkins articles was that last year it was talking about how he was getting back into shape...this one says he is back in shape and off the bottle...oh well, always optimistic!
5/16/2006 10:45:53 AM
yea, the dude from philly was supposed to be underrated there, and the younger guys (seward, ciurciu, draft) are all competing at a high level for the 3rd LB spot, but it'll be hard to replace witherspoons talent. but if davis comes on like he should, and morgan stays relatively healthy, it will be a moot point, b/c they'll make whoever is playing the 3rd backer look good.
5/16/2006 10:48:25 AM
5/16/2006 10:49:31 AM
what about diggs from green bay? is he even contending for that spot or is he just a solid back-up?and last years article i could have sworn had a lot of the same quotes from jenkins talking about how he was down on himself after not being able to play and that he had given up booze to get in shape. but i could be wrong.
5/16/2006 11:03:27 AM
http://panthers.com/news/newsroomNewsDetail.jsp?id=17424i think that is the article you're talking about. he doesn't really discuss the booze. From what i've seen, it looks like the last starting lb spot is a 4 horse race, and draft will probably get it, but they all look to be quality players, so we should be ok, barring injuries.anyone know how many backers the panthers usually keep on the active roster?
5/16/2006 11:23:21 AM
probably about 6 LBs including special teams...dont really need anymore since we usually play 4-3Jenkins just had an interview on the Bill Rosinski show...sounded good
5/16/2006 11:54:38 AM
thats the one the panthers put up in response to the article i am talking about which was in the charlotte observer. the official site traditionally downplays stories or doesn't list them at all if it is bad publicity.
5/16/2006 11:57:18 AM
Maybe i'm overly worried about the LB spot..........i hope so, but i really think that a serious injury to morgan would really put us in a bad spot (like the giants were in at the end of last year). You never want to be in a spot where one injury can hurt a unit so much.........which is also a reason that i would like to see smith returning fewer (maybe no) punts. i know we want to let him touch the ball as much as possible, but imagine how bad it would suck if he got hurt returning a punt in the middle of the season. I could see returning them in the playoffs, but i'd rather not see it in the regular season.

6/5/2006 2:04:19 PM
after being a die-hard panthers fan since the announcement we were getting the team in '93, its just so fucking surreal hearing and reading all these expectations. it is AWESOME.
6/5/2006 2:17:27 PM
The Carolina Panthers being a consistently good team nowadays really helps when you are also a State fan.
6/5/2006 2:21:44 PM
^absolutely...the loss on saturday doesn't hurt as bad when you get that victory on sunday.
6/5/2006 3:38:58 PM
The way Draft stuffed Mike Vick last year I would be pissed and shocked if he got left off.
6/5/2006 9:02:50 PM

6/9/2006 12:39:54 PM
They look like they're about to tear out after the camera guy. I feel deeply sorry for opposing centers and guards......it's gonna be great.
6/9/2006 12:44:54 PM
that picture gets me pumped for the NFL season.. it reminds me of the old Ravens D that won them the superbowl.. the goose and sam adams.. as long as Jenkins can stay healthy I expect Morgan to have a big year

weiss and foxy are good friends. I read somewhere (total speculation on the authors part) that if weiss sux it up at ND for a few years, it is feasible to see him replacing henning when he retires/gets a head coaching job.[Edited on June 9, 2006 at 2:15 PM. Reason : /]

^ good god. not with that awful stance. Looks likes he's tripping forward on himself.
6/9/2006 2:18:34 PM
^ He's got a few yrs. to improve his mechanics... Delhomme will be with us atleast 2-3 more yrs. I just remember that Louisville vs. Miami bowl game a few yrs back. He's good.[Edited on June 9, 2006 at 2:21 PM. Reason : louisville ]

I like what i've seen from lefors so far, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
6/9/2006 2:25:41 PM
lefors lit up the preseason last year but if he does start getting more PT, we'll just have to hear a bunch of stories about his deaf family
6/9/2006 3:06:20 PM
I wouldn't worry about him getting much reg season PT anytime soon, but the deaf family piece is lurking, i can feel it.btw gotta give him props 'cause he's a lefty.

Id hate to lose jekins just because of him having some bad luck 2 striaght years. i hope carolina gives him one more year at least to see if he can return to his old self.
6/16/2006 1:45:53 PM
this just caught me off guard b/c i heard he was doing well in summer school. I don't think i'll believe it just yet.....
6/16/2006 1:59:04 PM
theres no way in hell the panthers would let go of jenkins unless he gets injured a 3rd time
6/16/2006 3:18:04 PM
that's what i thought @ first, and i hope like hell they don't let him go. But Jenkins contract is pretty big, and the team will be close to the cap next year. If he is even 1/2 of what he was before the injuries, he's worth his money. Its probably just bs chatter, we'll have to wait till they put the pads on
6/16/2006 3:40:45 PM
6/16/2006 3:44:43 PM
^that's a given with morgan. When he's healthy, he's the best LB in the league in my opinion. The drawback is he play's so reckless to be that good that he gets hurt alot. If he's there for 12+ reg. season games it's a victory in my book. And, from what i'm hearing about summer school the LB core is looking better than expected.

that undrafted free agent WR the Panthers have, Biddie I think is his name, is fast as shit
6/21/2006 4:07:21 PM
^current word is he's looking at the practice squad, but yea, he is said to be the fastest on the practice field

Carolina PanthersThe rich got richer this offseason. For some reason, it did not receive a lot of publicity, but the signing of defensive tackles Damione Lewis and Maake Kemoeatu could turn the Panthers' defense into one of the best in the NFL. If Kris Jenkins is close to the player he was before his injuries, Carolina will have a rare group of interior linemen with a blend of outstanding size, power and quickness. No one will benefit more from these signings than Dan Morgan. He should be well protected by his massive defensive tackles, allowing him to use his excellent speed and instincts to track down ball carriers and make game-changing plays. Interior running lanes are going to be scarce -- terrible news for opposing running backs. No team in the league can match Carolina's pairs of starting defensive ends and cornerbacks -- terrible news for opposing quarterbacks. The outside linebackers are unproven, but there is young talent with depth, and the extreme talent around them will aid in the transition.Keyshawn JohnsonWide receiverCarolina PanthersProfile2005 SEASON STATISTICSRec Yds Avg Long TD71 839 11.8 34 6On offense, the Panthers added Keyshawn Johnson, who should thrive against consistent single coverage, and DeAngelo Williams, who will help keep fragile DeShaun Foster fresh while adding insurance in case of another injury.Last year, defenses keyed on Steve Smith and he still put up better numbers than any other receiver in the league. What Smith did last season was remarkable. With the addition of Johnson, Smith will continue to torture his opponents and actually might face single coverage on occasion. He might not match his 2005 numbers, but his value will not decrease. Expect Johnson to become a force on third downs and in the red zone.Quarterback Jake Delhomme goes under the radar a bit, but he has proved capable of winning big games and taking his team deep into the playoffs. There has been some shuffling of the interior offensive line starters, but don't expect this to hold the Panthers back. Head coach John Fox has established himself as one of the best in the business and has a very talented deep roster to work with. Expect a run at the Super Bowl this season.
