I think it would be strange to see Roger back with the Red Sox, but I wouldn't mind seeing it since it'd help the Sox beat the Yanks. In other news - it looks like Matt Morris is going to sign with the Giants for 3 years at ~ $8 million per. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5158984

Morris leaving is sad, but Reyes needs a shot in the rotation. Morris is going back to be with longtime friend Mike Matheny.[Edited on December 12, 2005 at 12:20 PM. Reason : .]

is that better?
12/12/2005 3:12:34 PM
nomah to the yanks?!?!http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/58605.htm
12/13/2005 11:13:13 AM
That actually works pretty well for the Yanks. Getting him to play first is the best idea.Even if he gets injured as he has done a few times, they'll just go back to Giambi/Phillips as DH/1B. He is surely better defensively than Giambi, and we'd get a better bat than Phillips without sacrificing defense at 1B. Who knows. Interesting idea though.
12/13/2005 11:17:33 AM
They need to trade Cano in a package for Tejada and have him play 2B.That way they can have an all All Star SS infield.
12/13/2005 11:21:02 AM
the only way the O's trade Tejada is if they offer up something baltimore just can't refusei dunno if the mets are willing to give that much.

Milton Bradley/Antonio Perez to Oakland for Andre Ethier (texas league PoY)http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/baseball/mlb/12/13/bradley.athletics.ap/index.htmlsomething tells me Billy swung this deal to get Perez, not Bradley.

El Duque/Young (White Sox prospect) for Vasquez (Arizona)Wow.
12/14/2005 3:44:54 AM
The White Sox traded a crappy SP (Hernandez) for a decent one (Vazquez), thus freeing up some room to trade a SP. Garland + Uribe for Tejada, maybe. Or free up $$ for Damon. Stay tuned.[Edited on December 14, 2005 at 4:11 AM. Reason : .]

Ive seen Vazquez pitch a LOT with the Yankees, and I watched several times last year with the diamondbacks. He absolutely will never do well in the American League. He will have his good games, but he gets the ball up too much and will always throw a lot of homeruns.Next year Vazquez will go 13-11 with a 5.10 ERA
12/14/2005 1:53:05 PM
Where do you guys think Roger will end up?From what I gather there are 5 possibilities.1) Retires.2) Yankees3) Red Sox4) Re up with Houston after May 1st (probably most likely IMO).5) Mets <-- far fetched but Omar said he was at the very least interested.
12/15/2005 9:30:31 AM
I think he retires... it's the right move. He was arguably the best pitcher in baseball last year and he should quit while he's on top.
12/15/2005 9:44:45 AM
my money is on 1. or 4.I want him to finish up his career in boston where it started. He only needs one more win with the sox to be their all-time leader in wins, he's currently tied with cy young for 192. Why not win a cy young, beat out the man who its named after, and finish your grand career where it started? Come one roger, lets win a championship with the sox!
12/15/2005 9:48:35 AM
1. sox2. astros3. retire4. yankeesnowayinfuckinghell. metsheading back to the astros might make the most sense, he'll only be able to pitch half a season or so which means he'll be 100x more effective in september and october. not that it'll matter if the astros don't get some offense
12/15/2005 10:28:33 AM
I really don't see Clemens playing for the Sox or Yanks because of his desire to be at all of his son's sporting events. He'd have to sign a contract similar to the one he had with the Astros concering his road games that also applied to home games (i.e. He doesn't have to be there unless he's pitching). If he gets that, then I could see him back in the Northeast. Otherwise only the Astros or Rangers make sense.

^ I think the Sox should move Garland to a team that will overpay for him and start McCarthy. McCarthy was pretty lights out down the stretch and Garland could just be a flash in the pan. They should move him to one of the irresponsible teams that always overpay for FAs like the Yanks, Mess, Tigers, Rangers, Dodgers, etc. The Sox are in a great position right now with their SPs.

Clemens will NOT go to the Sox, or as much as I would love to see it, the Yankees. The ONLY reason he signed in Houston was to be closer to home. He never wanted to leave the Yankees in the first place, but did to be closer to home.He is going to pitch in the WBC and then retire.
12/15/2005 1:03:28 PM
^ I agree. The last thing he wants to do is move his family, it seems.

HOT NEWS: Just heard about this recently, it seems that scientists (and rational people everywhere) have concluded that the world does not orbit Shea Stadium! I know, I know, it is hard to believe but this is just the latest rumor that has begun to swirl around the baseball world lately.
12/16/2005 10:30:12 AM
Yea it orbits around the triangle that connects Fenway, Shea, and Yankee Stadium. The homes of the only 3 baseball teams that really matter in the grand scheme of things.
12/16/2005 10:38:40 AM
haha oh yeah because the Mets have been so prominent in the MLB lately -- but gg on posting stuff, I can deal with your Mets obsession when you post actual information and sweet websites like the metsblog.com

actually forget it.. this isn't what this thread is for.[Edited on December 16, 2005 at 11:19 AM. Reason : joke anyway. but no one with a brain would think the Braves have a better fanbase.]
12/16/2005 11:16:53 AM
The Cubs are more prominent than the Mets.
12/16/2005 11:26:12 AM
Agreed. Nationally at least.. What I said was obviously a joke anyhow.Cubs fans are a different breed though. They seem to never show displeasure no matter how bad it gets. Red Sox fans, although also with a history of losing, are not afraid to let the players and coaches know how they feel. Cubs fans though, not so much.
12/16/2005 11:33:09 AM
^^^ I think the Braves do have a better fan base than the Mets when you consider how many people consider the Braves their favorite team (based off of the surveys by major league baseball when fans vote for the all stars). Just because those same fans do not show up at the games (the reasons why is a whole topic in itself), does not mean the Braves are not important on a national level.I agree about the Cubs too. They along with the Red Sox, and Yankees are the most prominent teams on a national level. As for the Looper signing - he may make a decent setup man to Izzy, but I hope he sucks monkey balls.[Edited on December 16, 2005 at 11:51 AM. Reason : y]

I've always thought of them as a very regional team. Lets face it there aren't Southeast 'transplants' all around the country like there are New Yorkers. In the late 90's when the Mets-Braves rivalry was at its height there were always 15-20,000 Mets fans in the Ted for the big games. In fact, Skip Caray spoke about that in 2004 saying how he misses the days when Mets fans used to pack out Turner when they were good.I know that the Braves have a ton of fans (who like you said don't show up for games for a multitude of reasons) in this region. However, nationally, no matter what ballpark you go to you are liable to hear a VERY distinguishable 'Lets Go Mets' chant. The Mets announcers were remarking how Phoenix (an area which is NOT known for NY transplants like .. say Florida) was half Mets fans last year even..V haha yea. That 2B/1B side of the infield is gonna be tough to fit in the graphic for defensive positions every game..[Edited on December 16, 2005 at 12:03 PM. Reason : f]

12/18/2005 10:12:10 AM
Kenny Lofton to the Dodgers today. ESPN reporting Millwood looking at the Rangers. That would give them ONE good starter. And what about the Cardinals? Most loyal fans in baseball regardless what anyone on TWW says.
12/20/2005 2:48:55 PM
The dodgers are signing everyone, but I think their best move was to get rid of Milton Bradley. Man I hate that mother fucker. In other news, the Mariners signed Washburn and Adam Eaton was traded from the Padres to the Rangers along with a bunch of other players. Oh yeah and Pedro's toe is still hurting - I hope he gets his foot amputated. Maybe he can call Shaq and they can go to toe therapy together.
12/20/2005 3:28:22 PM
The Dallas Morning News reports that the Rangers have traded 1B Adrian Gonzalez, RHP Chris Young and newly acquired OF Terrmel Sledge to San Diego for RHP Akinori Otsuka and RHP Adam Eaton…there is the exact trade. Nice for both sides.^ I think that has more to do with an excuse to miss the WBC frankly. He knows his arm isn't as durable as it once was and his team needs him. Look for him to be 100% opening day.[Edited on December 20, 2005 at 3:29 PM. Reason : f]
12/20/2005 3:28:52 PM
actually the exact trade would include SD prospect billy killian going to the rangers as well.
12/20/2005 5:39:47 PM
^^ I think the Padres made out pretty well because Chris Young looked pretty solid at times last year and Gonzalez was a big time prospect just a year ago. Eaton is kind of hit or miss and Otsuka is a pretty solid refief man, but I'd take the younger guys. Plus Sledge is a good fourth OF because of his defense and speed.
