^ yes but if you put it in your arch enemy, then he has to destroy himself to destroy you. Makes you think twice about going after you-know-who if your the chosen one. I'd say losing 1/7 is worth it to take out Harry. Plus someone like Dumbledore would never kill Harry to get to Voldemeort. Perhaps Dumbledore even knew Harry was the Horcrux? I agree its a longshot, but I thought Harry was the last horcrux too when I read it.
7/22/2005 11:50:56 AM
this is all assuming that Voldemort hadn't already split up his soul before he went after Harry when he was a baby...remember at the time he thought he could kill Harry so why would he plan on using him as a horocrux...it just seems to make more sense that Voldemort would have already split up his soul prior to that night
7/22/2005 12:23:03 PM
I think Dudley at one time being a wizard is not to far fetched. Remember, he was able to see the Dementors, which only a wizard is able to do.
7/22/2005 12:39:07 PM
^ That's exactly why Harry is the horocrux. He thought he could kill Harry and then put it in some object. That way he used his nemesis to finish his horocrux collection. When he attempted to kill Harry but his mom got in the way he was so badly injured that he HAD to put it in Harry before he got too weak. Does that make any sense?
7/22/2005 12:40:32 PM
i don't knowit's possible, just not plausibleFirst, there's the prophecy. If Harry were a Horcrux, Voldemort couldn't be killed as long as Harry were alive, so it wouldn't be a "one or the other" thing. If Voldemort knew Harry was a horcrux, he would not want to kill him. The book also talked about how obsessive voldemort was about doing everything himself, so he wouldn't want his immortality to swing on a person, especially since the horcrux could die well before he intends it to. but also consider that maybe Harry himself isn't the horcrux, but maybe just his scar ishere's what I think could be possible horcrux, ignoring the "Harry is one" theory:1)Voldemort Himself(Last part to kill or destroy is himself)2) Riddle's Diary(ruined in the chamber of secrets)3)The Ring(destroyed by dumbledore)4)Hufflepuff's Cup(not yet found)5)Slytherin's Locket(in the house of black)6) something of ravenclaw's possessions7)One of Gryffindor's Red Rubies (why else mention the smashed hourglass and rubies in so much detail...def. not the sword as Dd had that in his possession and surely checked it)also just in case some of you hadn't heard it's a pretty widely accepted "rumor" that the last word in book 7 is "scar"
7/22/2005 12:55:25 PM
You know how Voldemort wanted to use objects from each house, I was thinking that Harry would be the Gryffindor object, because Dubledore had the only artifact (the sword). But then how would he know he would be a Gryffindor... Unless he turns out to be the heir of Gryffindor (wild speculation!) But it would make sense, heir off Slytherin vs heir of GryffindorIn a completly different direction, anyone think that Neville might actually be the one to kill him? Didnt it mention in OotP that it could be Neville, and then never really follwed up on it?
7/22/2005 1:02:14 PM
ok all this talk is really getting me excited for book 7
7/22/2005 1:03:13 PM
^^it could have either been Neville or Harry, however, Voldemort went after Harry thus making him the "chosen one" because that was who he thought it wasin essence Voldemort picked his nemesis the day he attempted to kill Harry
7/22/2005 1:05:15 PM
^^ I dont know about the rubies, he'd have to get into Hogwarts to do it wouldnt he?
7/22/2005 1:06:00 PM
he started talking about horcruxes while he was still a student and we know he came back to Hogwarts on a seperate occassion to seek out a teaching position so it is possible he did itso it's possible he could have done it then, but your right, it is a little iffyafter that I think this might make more sense:1)Voldemort Himself(Last part to kill or destroy is himself)2) Riddle's Diary(ruined in the chamber of secrets)3)The Ring(destroyed by dumbledore)4)Hufflepuff's Cup(not yet found)5)Slytherin's Locket(in the house of black)6) something of ravenclaw's possessions7) Nagini (voldemorts snake that he cares for more than anything else)[Edited on July 22, 2005 at 1:16 PM. I didnt quite get the whole thing about how V could pick his enemy. I think Neville will do something imprtant tho b/c shes been building him up to be much stronger and more brave throughout the books. I hope she doesnt kill him off next book, she getting a bad habit of killing of people who are closer and closer to Harry. (I think Ron or Hemione is at risk next book)
7/22/2005 1:19:10 PM
Voldemort probably intended to kill both boys. It makes perfect sense. Choice is very important in JKR's books and if Voldemort choosing Harry didn't make a difference, it would go against the general idea of the books; "and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal" is one of the conditions of being the One; it's one of the identifying features. I thus believe that if Voldemort had chosen to start with Neville, he would have been the One and the series would have been called "Neville Longbottom and...." And yes, this technically makes Harry "a hero by default" and a "victim of circumstance," but that doesn't change the fact that he is a hero. Why would it be more heroic to be born a hero than to be chosen to be one?
7/22/2005 1:46:50 PM
I think they are just all gonna die in the last one, then there cant be anymore books..Im totally ready for the next one though, anyone know when its due out?
7/22/2005 1:57:51 PM
where did it say that the locket was in the house of black?
7/22/2005 1:59:40 PM
^^I heard summer or fall of 2007
7/22/2005 2:00:08 PM

The house of Black is speculation - based on the note left behind in the cave Dumbledour and Harry visited. They think that was left by Black's brother or cousin or some family member.[Edited on July 22, 2005 at 2:28 PM. Reason : .]

^^^ i know it does seem like a long time. she said she's not even gonna start it until the end of this year...so that might be about right.as for the movie, i don't know if you mean the order of the phoenix, but if you do....imdb has harry, hermione, ron, and draco all returning. it's in pre-production status so i'm sure more will be added later.it's due to come out in 2007. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0373889/so it'll probably be like this year, book in the summer, movie in the winter.

I am starting to think that it makes pretty good sense that Voldemort could have indeed used Harry (or at least his scar) as the last Horcrux. If Voldemort could have forseen how prominent Harry would become in the wizarding world, he would have obviously tried to kill him. Seeing as how he failed in that, though, then it seems like a decent idea that he'd have made it so that the only way his nemesis could kill him is to kill himself. That's assuming that there's no way Harry could destroy the Horcux inside him without destroying himself in the process...

also i've been thinking what if Voldemort made 7 horcruxes NOT including himself
7/22/2005 6:33:23 PM
I know, rite? Or 8. Or 100.Harry would be like OMG UR DEADand Voldemort says NO WAY LOL
7/22/2005 7:23:33 PM
yes but 7 is the most magical number or something like that. Dumbledore implied that it made the magic stronger by keeping it at 7. Plus it said the more times he split himself, the less human he became so I would imagine that if you split too much your power gets too dispersed.[Edited on July 22, 2005 at 7:53 PM. Reason : .]

dudley=not a wizard. dudley didnt see a dementor he just described how it got all dark and started to feel sad, and he thought harry did it, and was runing frantically w/ no sense of direction. and even if he did, itd make him a squib. cause hes shown no signs of magic
7/22/2005 7:55:11 PM
Y'know, I'd like to mention something else which was pointed out here before. Someone asked about being able to cast spells without having to verbally enunciate the name of the spell. I know that there's a big gap between the movies and the books, but some of the professors (namely, Snape) perform some of their spells without saying a word. I know, I know, it's just the movies, but it still kinda makes me believe a little bit more that Snape may have said one thing but did something different. The funny thing about the movies to me is that whenever I read the books, in my mind's eye I can see and hear Richard Harris acting out Dumbledore's parts. I have yet to really envision Michael Gambon as Dumbledore... Maybe he'll grow on me after seeing The Goblet of Fire.
7/22/2005 8:29:53 PM
I have been spending the last few days reading the books while at work and now that I've finished the 6th I have to say I'm interested to see where things are going. Having to watch the trailer for HP:GOF everyday (on the IMAX version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) has me wishing the movies would come out quicker, I'm afraid they're going to get to the last few movies and have to change major characters and spoil the experience.
7/22/2005 8:54:49 PM
i think that as long as the characters still want to do the movies that they'll be allowed to come backi mean after all in the CoS movie the kid who played 16yrold Tom Riddle was 21, so there is no reason why the kids can't finish...just a matter of if they want to or not
7/22/2005 9:12:52 PM
I'm not worried about them being allowed back, I mean WB would be making a horrible marketing mistake to change characters mid-series without a reason, but since a death has already caused one change (which they were able to fill without too big of a notice) it just seems like waiting another 4-6 years to finish the series will be pushing their luck.
7/22/2005 9:21:39 PM
they are probably gonan film all the movies close together because they're growing so much..because it's taking so long between films is because of editing and they wanna wait it out to grow more attention to it...they probably finished filming this last year
7/22/2005 11:48:18 PM
I think after GoF they are going to start filming the movies closer together. The reason they have to wait to start filming OotP is because Daniel Radcliffe is filming another movie called December BoysIn any event this is the planned release for OotP and HBP:Order of the Phoenix: 2007Half Blood Prince: 2008

Here's the day-of-release interview with JK Rowling. There are 3 parts:http://www.mugglenet.com/jkrinterview.shtmlhttp://www.mugglenet.com/jkrinterview2.shtmlhttp://www.mugglenet.com/jkrinterview3.shtmlThey offer fairly decent clues towards 7 and info on six. 7/24/2005 10:58:45 AM
^^ was interestingFrom JKR - as of the sixth book:Harry's Reflection in the Mirror of Erised - Voldemort finished, dead goneVoldemort's Reflection - Himself, all-powerful and eternalDumbledore - [she wouldn't answer]Voldemort's Bogart - His own deathDumbledore's - [she wouldn't answer]what do you think Dumberdore's would be? Snape's? Draco's?
7/25/2005 1:29:28 PM
I think Dumbledores boggart would be failure. It'd show everyone dead and their efforts had failed.
7/25/2005 1:31:24 PM
^ i agree...dumbledore could see an extremely powerful and savage voldemort as his boggart (or maybe even dead harry)as for the reflection..it could be same as Harry's, Voldemort dead...or harmony between all communities like pure blood, half-blood wizards, giants, and muggles
7/25/2005 1:45:23 PM
I wonder why she wouldn't tell us what Dumbledore's would be? I doubt it would be a spoiler for anything in book 7...
7/25/2005 2:29:02 PM
she said you get some more info on dumbledore in 7.i think dumbledore's reflection would show peace (possibly even peace between current death eaters and the rest of the wizarding community since he is always preaching about love)
7/25/2005 3:43:07 PM
