^hey, bite the bullet. theres gonna be a time, real shortly, where youre gonna need a next generation card to run games. youre not gonna wanna hack every dx9 game just so you can play it. get a 6800gt. theyre down in price, especially since nvidia is showing off the next generation cards soon.
6/15/2005 11:40:39 AM
i'm waitin till end of summer to get a 6800gt. that way prices should be way down.
6/15/2005 12:30:55 PM
No, I'm not going to buy a card for this game. It's about the principle. nVidia is obviously in bed with EA on this one. BF2 doesn't have that ground-breaking of graphics to require an upgrade to a newer card. EA could have included support for older cards that are still viable but chose not to, either out of a backhanded business agreement or just pure laziness.http://news.com.com/2100-1043-996423.html
6/15/2005 12:48:18 PM
i'm not upgrading cause of this game, i'm upgrading cause of future games. my 9600xt handles this game damn good and i can play it with most settings up high. like i said, i'm upgrading for future games and cause the price will be right at the end of summer.
6/15/2005 12:50:18 PM
EA is in bed with nvidia as much as any other studio is.NVIDIA has put "ads" in several other games.... most notably the UT series. It means absolutely nothing other than what it is... an ad... paid for by NVIDIA.Complaining about your unsupported card not working in a game is like complaining that your new fuel burning car can't use diesel fuel. You knew when you bought the car it couldn't use diesel but its cheaper and it smells like gasoline so why shouldn't you be able to use it? Too bad the nozzle don't fit.[Edited on June 15, 2005 at 1:21 PM. Reason : .]

anyone know of any public access computer places that may have/allow this demo (ie: internet cafes, etc)?
6/15/2005 1:05:55 PM
^^ while i agree somewhat, they still shouldnt have not made it incompatible with many of hte cards thta they did.WoW also has nvidia logos in the options interface ingame
6/15/2005 1:31:09 PM
having known about the requirements for a while, then whining about it later and throwing out conspiracy theories is just downright childish.
6/15/2005 1:45:51 PM
I learned about the requirements less than a week ago. I figured that, like most new games, the game would support my card. I mean it has clock speeds of 350/600 and 128mb RAM with 4x2 pipes. That's enough to run most games at at least medium settings if not high.My point isn't that there shouldn't be games that use new technology and require upgrading cards. What I'm saying is that it's bullshit that BF2 "requires" those cards when it would run fine on the GF4 Ti4xxx series had EA cared to include that functionality.Since they didn't, they're losing a sale. It's about time I stopped gaming so much anyway so this is a great excuse for me to spend some time doing real life things instead of sitting in front of my PC so much.Oh and also even though I have a decent job spending $150+ on a video card is hardly one of my priorities. The only reason I have the card I do is I got a really good deal on it from a friend when he bought a new computer. About the only way I'd upgrade to a nicer card at this point is if something like that happened again. So I don't want to to shit on anyone's fun here, so have fun playing the game.[Edited on June 15, 2005 at 4:16 PM. 6/15/2005 4:14:22 PM
^^ i dont think its a conspiracy really. i just agree with em that its pretty shoddy of em to, quite obviously, purpousfully make it compatible with a whole group of cards that could run the game MUCH better than some of the cards the game supports
6/15/2005 4:29:05 PM
I'll sell you my AIW 9600 pro for $50 today.
6/15/2005 5:21:08 PM
found a fix for geforce 4 Ti cards. It looks like absolute shit on them, but at least you can see the new kits and play the game. Here is what to do (from planetbattlefield forums):
6/15/2005 8:59:11 PM
My 9600xt runs this game pretty well.I was scared I was going to have to purchase a new card.I just wish I had more time to play this game
6/15/2005 9:01:05 PM
Yeah I tried out that hack today, no way I would buy the game depending on that thing. You serious about the 9600 pro? The AIW 128mb correct? If you really want to sell it I might hit you up for it, maybe this weekend.
6/15/2005 9:20:01 PM
yes I'm serioushas to be before this weekend though, I'm going out of town.
6/15/2005 9:32:09 PM
So I got a message that said I had unlocked a new weapon. I have no idea how I did it, what I unlocked, or how I use it. LOL. That's kind of a problem.
6/15/2005 9:55:45 PM
if you go to the weapon select screen, there will be an up/down arrow on the top right of the kit where you have the new gun. Just click on it and you will see the new weapon come up.
6/16/2005 1:19:29 AM
u unlock it in single or multiplayer mode?
6/16/2005 8:14:34 AM
Alright so after all my bitching I'm going to buy Maugan's 9600 pro and pick this up when it comes out.
6/16/2005 11:04:44 AM
^classic.resistance is futile
6/16/2005 11:29:43 AM
But nvidia wont get any of that money! fuckers!
6/16/2005 11:34:40 AM
Yeah that was kind of my reasoning behind it. Buying used is a lot better than new in this case.Bowes you better be getting this game too...
6/16/2005 1:27:28 PM
6/16/2005 2:21:24 PM
are you shooting while prone?
6/16/2005 2:32:05 PM
I surely am. I shoot prone almost 80% of the time. And when given a chance, I pause to make sure I have a good shot before I take it.
6/16/2005 4:43:58 PM
Yea, to actually snipe in the pure sense of the word you cant do anything at long range. The unlockable weapons lead me to beleive there might be a better sniper rifle avaliable if you can unlock it. And what exactly do you do to unlock weapons?[Edited on June 16, 2005 at 6:58 PM. Reason : da]
6/16/2005 6:57:56 PM
I have no earthly idea. I was playing as a medic the other night, and the tutorial voice said "you have unlocked a new weapon" and I saw the message appear in the middle of the screen. I didn't recall how he said to use it, nor did I see it appear in the kit list. I was a little bit busy at the time being spawn bombed by some asshole in a Flanker.
6/16/2005 8:17:02 PM
Ok this game is pretty fun. The kits are awesome. Seems easier than BFV to me, I guess maybe because the terrain and improved graphics make it easier to see enemies from further away.
6/16/2005 8:43:05 PM
When you get on a team with a good commander and good squad leaders, this game is simply amazing. I joined a game last night in which both factions were going at each other's throats in such a coordinated way that I couldn't get over it. The timer was removed, and the battle must have lasted for close to 45 minutes. Fantastic stuff. My new #1 rule: take out their artillery first in case they have a halfway competent commander.
6/16/2005 10:10:16 PM
6/16/2005 10:26:15 PM
The grenade launcher is the best weapon for killing other infantry. I've been working on it, but once you get the angles down, you can take out enemies from very long range with it.
6/16/2005 10:36:46 PM
I love the US medic kit. The M16 is so accurate on semi-auto.I was playing with a bunch of guys in my clan last night, about 6 of us were on in a squad. I was medic, we had a support guy, a sniper, couple SF, and assault. We kept their main base down the entire round. The way they set up squads to work in the game is perfect. I'm very impressed with this game. I haven't played on a really competitive server yet, so I'm waiting to get a really good game in. All of us that were on last night were on a BFV team together on TWL and were one of the top 10 teams out of a couple hundred, so I'm curious to see what the game is like when played against other more organized teams.
6/17/2005 7:24:53 AM
I'm not liking this "Punishment" system for teamkills. As some of you may know, all I do is fly the planes. Sometimes when I'm bombing an enemy tank or AA, I catch some of my teammates in the blast. I don't mean to do it, I'm just trying to kill the armor. Last night I had about 3 kick votes against me. Luckily the people on the server were smart enough to see my 52 or so kills and realize that I wasn't a tk'ing noob. Still though, that would have sucked to have been kicked off the server just because some guy got caught in some friendly fire. Shit it happens to me all the time, helicopters running smack into me while I'm trying to reload, I don't "punish" them.
6/17/2005 8:09:39 AM
most of the time the vote kicks are started by noobs anyway tryin to blend in. if i was on a roll and some dick TKed me in BFV i would start a vote kick. but i think its stupid most of the time.
6/17/2005 8:16:25 AM
i wish i knew of good clans/groups etc, b/c i want to roll with similar people in this game. Where do you go to get 'recruited' so to speak. Anyone have any recommendations? I love this game and am getting retarded good at it, but it sucks being in the top 3 on the leaderboard perpetually and not advancing my game into a squad/clan
6/17/2005 10:52:37 AM
got us a serverbf2.ymg3.netstill in the process of finding out how it performs and securing multiple locations, so I need to know how it runs for you.Its open pub.[Edited on June 17, 2005 at 11:17 AM. Reason : .]
6/17/2005 11:04:17 AM
That was fast. Specs / location, etc?
6/17/2005 12:09:27 PM
I'll get the specs and stuff later when I get home. Its the best I could do from work where I'm not supposed to be on the internet
6/17/2005 1:01:48 PM
kainen1, a guy I know from BFV is going to be starting a BF2 tournament pretty soon. I played in a BFV one for a long time and I have to say that it makes the game 10x more fun. There is no way I would have played that game for more than a couple of months on just pub servers, but in the tourney you get the organized team play with guys that work in groups to attack and defend flags. If any of you guys are interested in checking this tournament out, PM me and I will send you the website/forums when he gets it completed.
6/17/2005 1:11:47 PM
that sounds awesome Lax....but do they assign you to groups or squads randomly? or is it a clan tourney? Not knowing anyone to play with is totally taking away the potential of the game that I feel could make it so much better than it is.....friend/squad play, organization -- b/c im sick of yelling at others to follow me or get into squads themselves
6/17/2005 1:32:04 PM
well we havent discussed the specifics, but I am 99% sure that you sign up for the side you want to play on, and then the generals and their staff will put you in a company, who will put you in a squad. If a bunch of you sign up and want to play together, I am sure that can be worked out, but it wont be like 1 clan will get their own company and do whatever they want. They will still have to take orders from general of their army and work together with the other players. Tourneys are great for this style of game because only the people that really want the teamwork sign up, so you dont have to worry about yelling at people all the time.
6/17/2005 1:49:41 PM
awesome. pls post here with that info when you get it. I'd be game in a heartbeat. Hopefully with the retail release i will have fixed this damn bug that wont let me connect to VOIP servers. which is 90% of them. I ordered the copy with headphones and plan on using that -- As of now the only problem i have with the game is no VOIP and the fact that i cant go to audio settings wo/ a crash -- its the same issue though.I have an audigy 2 zs too. shouldnt be happening
6/17/2005 1:53:21 PM
alright, I will be sure to post the links in here when I get them. I dont know if they will be using VOIP or Teamspeak. I havent tried VOIP, but I know that TS lets you really organize people into groups and have it so the commander can talk to eveyone without having to hear all of them. It worked beautifully in the BFV tourney, but I will talk to him about that this weekend.
6/17/2005 1:56:09 PM
bf2 is already internally set to tier commands from commander to sq. leader and so forth
6/17/2005 2:02:26 PM
Maugan do you have an IP for your server? Please let me know - I'll be happy to test it out thoroughly for you.
6/17/2005 4:57:59 PM
axelayyou can type the "url" for the site into the "Connect to IP" and it will connect.or alternately you can do 'nslookup address' at the command prompt to get it.But to make it easy:Non-authoritative answer:Name: bf2.ymg3.netAddress: 65.110.38.103I'll be on there soon.
6/17/2005 5:12:30 PM
damn. i wish i could join that, but i just tried - it soundcrashed/lockedup. You must have VOIP enabled.damn. i hate this bug
6/17/2005 5:33:24 PM
I just hope they re-instate the scud missle launcher from desert combat. I cant tell you how much fun I had firing that thing into someones airfield. Also they need to make sure it has actual realistic range. Sucked when it would blow up in the air before it hit your spot cause you were too far away.[Edited on June 17, 2005 at 5:43 PM. Reason : /]
6/17/2005 5:43:08 PM
can't you disable the voip on your end?I have an Audigy 2zs also and it doesn't lock up for me.FYI I'm on the server now just screwing around (practicing bombing)[Edited on June 17, 2005 at 5:50 PM. Reason : .]
6/17/2005 5:50:09 PM
just had some fun in my own server playin around with the vehicles for the 1st time. the US Fast Attack Vehicle is fuckin awesome. fast lil thing with damn good suspension..lol. the helos are cool..once i figured out i had to invert my mouse to fly them like in BFV i was good to go. cant wait till i get back down to school for a fast internet connection to play this game. only dialup and a decent to bad wireless signal from my neighbors.
