I was out in the middle of East Bumblefuck today (as in north of Stem). Just got home, and it looks like I gotta cook dinner. So today is out. Mayhap it be next time...

THAT FUCKING SUCKS
4/14/2005 10:37:55 PM
*Now I am ham licensed. Or will be when the paperwork goes through. All future radio equipment will be bought on 50MHz. Fuck waiting for a frequency pin.
4/17/2005 4:03:29 PM
nice!you gonna get a rubber ducky antenna?[Edited on April 18, 2005 at 9:08 AM. Reason : d]
4/18/2005 8:49:30 AM
Now I ain't into dildo antennas. That's one thing I don't/won't change. I don't like base loaded antennas, or any inductive-coil-loaded antennas. Gimme true quarter wave.Of course, after performing the calculations, I realize that a quarter-wave antenna for 72MHz is 41 inches long, and for 50MHz is almost 60 inches long. So, they either have to have some form of coil loading in the Tx, or they are 1/8 wave antennas (not fucking likely for 72MHz; more likely for 50MHz)...
4/18/2005 11:04:51 AM
my multiplex antenna is long than the futaba one... which one is quarter wave?oh and you gotta see the latest pibros i built... it glides superbly. AUW: 2.5 oz.
4/18/2005 11:07:41 PM
My guess is that neither is a true quarter wave. My guess is that every thing we get these days has some sort of internal impedance matching.Though for 72MHz, a quarter wave antenna would be around 41 inches long. THAT would be a little too long! My Futaba has a rather short antenna, but my old Expert is quite a bit longer, as are the two hitecs I have.
4/18/2005 11:15:13 PM
i just measured the ant. on the multiplex and theres 39.5" hanging out of the tx case... i suppose another 1.5 internally.of course some germans would make it right
4/19/2005 12:38:05 AM
Yeah...the Krauts WOULD make it right. I want one of those radios. Now I gotta figure out how to get the money to buy it.
4/19/2005 3:45:30 PM
tax return?
4/20/2005 3:54:58 AM
Naw...that went to medical bills. I need to be pimpin' some ho's or something.
4/20/2005 7:42:59 AM
i'd say you could solicit here but by the looks of the last few pages, we're pretty much the only ones reading this shit.So how about a roll call... who reads this and doesnt post?
4/20/2005 10:20:31 AM
heres a couple from the latest roll...

4/22/2005 3:32:44 PM
that things gonna fly sunday aint it?
4/22/2005 3:46:46 PM
i hope so for matt and the boys' sake i dunno i thought forward swept wings were nearly impossible to control w/o computer aid but.. thats just me
4/22/2005 5:28:15 PM
yeah i was wondering about that... i've defininitely heard more negatives than positives at this point about the outcome but i hope all goes well.having the intake on the top of the fuse like that is bad for high aoa... not that it would be detrimental to flight... is the idea is to just fly it around or perform some manuevers and such? what are the goals?[Edited on April 22, 2005 at 6:02 PM. 4/22/2005 5:58:19 PM
well it looks good. hopefully it will after sunday too
4/22/2005 6:00:23 PM
^ you get a chance to fly again?
4/22/2005 6:11:23 PM
i'm not sure what the actuall requirements are but i'm def impressed... lets just hope ot worksand the forward swept wing is actually a + on everything but stability better range w/ shorter span meaning higher g maneuvers are possible
4/22/2005 9:01:16 PM
When is the Aero picnic? And info for non aeros like me...
4/22/2005 10:11:07 PM
picnic on the 29th
4/23/2005 11:43:07 AM
What time, and what about the cost for non-aero majors? And where in Butner is the field?Never mind...I saw the flier (no pun intended) online.[Edited on April 24, 2005 at 12:00 PM. Reason : shit]
4/24/2005 11:48:03 AM
well, they didnt fly so well... is the picnic still on?
4/27/2005 8:38:20 AM
>The Aerospace Engineering Senior Picnic will be moved to Pullen Park. >The picnic will be at shelter #1 (on the island in the lake) and will >begin at 2pm. Food will be catered by Cooper's BBQ for $8 per plate. >Senior t-shirts will also be available for sale at the picnic for $10 >each, sizes small-XX-large. Everyone in the department is invited to attend.>

Enquiring minds want to know...what happened?
4/27/2005 9:14:57 PM
i didn't make it
4/27/2005 9:56:31 PM
i heardthe forward swept cannard porpoised real bad (not sure what else) and the other plane got ran into a light pole...
4/28/2005 10:11:14 AM
Now my curiosity is piqued about the forward swept wing...I wonder how much time they spent studying the effective pitch axis of rotation and how each airfoil presents itself to airflow when pitched about this axis and the various moments produced. Seems to me that if this wasn't carefully thought out, then a pitched forward wing would tend to be very unstable, oscillating wildly and requiring constant control input to remain even close to neutral.I don't see how a configuration like this could even be close to stable without making the plane really nose-heavy. If even then. I wish I could have been an aero major, but I majored in alcohol consumption and ass-chasing instead.
4/28/2005 10:54:21 AM
^Oh, and I managed to pass those subject materials. Unlike mechanical...at least until I got married and calmed down some.bttt, BTW. Let the discussions begin for those who care.
4/29/2005 9:39:16 AM
I'm not sure why they chose that configuration... And the foil on the main wing is really weird... I'd have picked something a little more conventional. Also I think in the wind tunnel they found that the main wing stalled before the cannard, which is BAD
4/29/2005 11:46:31 AM
VERY bad. One of the major points of a canard configuration is that the canard stalls first, drops, and begins flying again. The plane is supposed to be major stallproof; that is, the main wing never gets a chance to stop lifting adequately, and some sort of rough equilibrium is the result. How in the hell does their problem occur? What kind of airfoil did they choose? I presume they chose zero incidence on the wing, and most likely the canard. What kind of flow separation is going on here...Dude, I wonder if I can get a peek at this thing up close and the plans and all.
4/29/2005 1:04:00 PM
Flew the Banana in Charlotte this weekend, flights #8 and #9. I changed the CG and elevator throws and it doesnt tip stall any more. I also have crow braking set up now and it works very well. I'll be out after work today with it.
5/9/2005 9:30:52 AM
I haven't flown a bit lately. The Beaver has shit the bed (foam just doesn't hold up after repeated flogging; she needs new tail feathers), and I haven't bought any fuel for the other bird. So, are ye having fun with'er yet, Bryan? That is one BAD airplane.
5/9/2005 9:35:49 AM
Yeah i'm crossing over into the fun realm. That snap stall tendency was the main problem flying her... I'm much more comfortable with it now. Hey why dont you build a lil fff plane for the gear you have in the Beaver? If you buy a stack of blucor i'll buy half of it off you. And / or I can pick up a stack of the pink (splittable) stuff and we can just trade half. They are both good for different things and a plane made out of this stuff takes a few hours, and you can go crazy with the glue gun.
5/9/2005 10:36:10 AM
bttt... think jordan lake would let me out on their overflow plain? falls has signs up to keep people off those cliffs, but jordan looks safer. i wanna fly gliders there... looks like it'll work with just about any wind direction, there are quite a few flyable looking slopes based on the satelite image.
6/9/2005 3:07:36 PM
IRL there are a few good damn slopes. Yes, you can walk all over the place.I really need to get cracking on this Daydream but I haven't had the time (or the money to buy servos).Maybe haul out my old faithful tomorrow? Or the next day?Bryan, I haven't croaked yet. I am still alive. Kind of Jonesing for some stick time.
7/1/2005 10:11:36 PM
dan, I got the seeker together, i'll let you fly her, 4oz 42" and a real short tail moment... its kinda interesting.let me know when you are going out, i'll try to join you. sunday is probly no good but i'm not sure.
7/2/2005 4:06:51 PM
anyone still flying?I need someone to teach me Just got a plane!
8/4/2005 6:40:48 PM
In a couple of weeks, I'll be doing a lot more flying.Maybe I need to finish my airplane plans for a really cool secondary trainer.
8/5/2005 12:00:24 AM
OK learn me
8/5/2005 12:06:49 AM
i wanna go flyyou guys tell me when you wanna go.
8/12/2005 6:14:48 PM
All my airplane stuff is now in Smithfield. Maybe as soon as I get settled somewhat in the next week.
8/13/2005 9:14:38 AM
BTT....Come on guys someone teach me how to fly this thing. Is just sitting here!
8/15/2005 2:30:08 PM
What's your schedule like?I'm working every day, but it's possible we can fly one evening this week. This evening is out. I gotta go to Zebulon here shortly on a job. Messing around with pwrstrkdf250's boat motor later on...[Edited on August 15, 2005 at 2:52 PM. Reason : spell it]

aight y'all i'm the new manager of apxex rc hobbies.http://www.apexrchobbies.comjust give me two weeks to become full time there. basically just quit my current job to take over this position but still have 2 weeks until i'm fully over at the hobbyshopwhowohowhhhahahhahahahaseriously i will hook up T-dub members with PARTS (not necesarily the plane kits). expect ads on the banner from my store in a few weeks. cars and trucks toothat is all
8/15/2005 8:48:05 PM
all the state peepees are trying to meet sundays starting last sunday at dix.
8/22/2005 1:06:48 PM
Hmmm...worth going to?Ross Culp is telling me about the Heli fly in that his club, the RC Wingers in Mooresville, is having. I'm most likely going to try to make that one this weekend.
8/22/2005 9:06:06 PM
Yeah its worth going out... Last sunday we did some micro aero-tow. Its the same group of guys that went out last year. There are lots of gliders and probably just as many slow sticks Dan E. had his Bubble Dancer up. Its a built-up 3m R/E/S, and is gorgeous! The heli fly sounds fun. Does Ross fly at RDRC at all or just with the RC Wiggers?
