there wont be a draft, and if there was we wouldnt even be involved, they start off with 26 and uneducated, if your in college, your straight.
11/27/2004 2:08:52 AM
To my knowledge, you're absolutly correct...but the idea of this socioty letting any more of its willing troops enter this mess of a war is absurd, much less it's drafted and rather unwilling.

I have just been informed that if they dont fix the job in Iraq within the next 6 years, and if they remove the collegiate standard, then my ass will be the first to be drafted since I'll be like 26. Shit...I sure hope they get the job done and pull out before then.

I am glad that some of you are starting to take the War seriously. They are running out of warm bodies to send over. Very few new recruits are volunteering. They are calling up old guys like me -- some of whom are not in great shape. People are being told they can't get out of service after their contracts are over. Until there is an Anti-War movement, there is going to be little incentive for this administration to scale back their plans to take over the middle east. They feel they have a public mandate and blank check to do what they want without public or congressional oversight. If young people do not get organized and act up you will be at risk of enforced military service. Has anyone listened to Rumsfeld insult the soldiers who voiced concern over lack of armor. I sure would have no confidence following him and his draft dogging bosses (Dick and George admit to evading service in Vietnam). My view is the Bush daughters need to go over there and perform for the troops (not sure they have many talents). They could visit wounded soldiers or something!! They could tour with their rich, socialite friends (e.g., Paris Hilton). One of the interesting things is to go back and listen to some sixties protest music (esp Dylan's early work and Country Joe's "Feel Like I am Fixin' to Die." Keb Mo and A Perfect Circle have great new CDs with protest covers. Both do "Imagine" and "Peace, Love, and Understanding." If interested in the sixties youth counterculture, check out my site:http://www.hiphappy.comPeace, Love, and Power to the People.Dr. Tom

How does that have anything to do with a draft? There are many ways to increase the size of the military without a draft. If you were to pull your head out of your ass, you would realize that this letter is a call for increased recruitment.

Or just increased advertising and improved benefits for active military. The possibility of action against Iran or Syria is very slim, according to the real news.

^^Tim Dickinson is rabidly anti-Bush. Every other article that he has written for Rolling Stone has been about what an embarrasment he is. Do you think that he took a step back and wrote an unbiased analysis of the draft scare, or is it possible that he wrote this with the hopes of stirring youth sentiment against the Bush administration?Everyone I know in the military is against a draft. The fighting force that exists now is all volunteer, very professional and committed to their mission. If you began adding conscripts that didn't want to be there, the effectivess of the entire military would be damaged. This a legit article that manages to defuse draft fears (without referencing Jew conspiracies!). http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/wars/a/draft.htm[Edited on February 16, 2005 at 4:12 PM.
