Okay well at least your are not one of those completely hypocritical bastards on that issueTruth is you occasionally have some good points; we really must be careful not to give the government too much power. You lose a lot of credibility though when you post some of the BS sites you often do... not EVERYTHING is a conspiracy. Tone it down and quit blaming every single problem on the Bush administration and you might make some headway. Take your fight agaist issues and not just one man.P.S. And Mr. Joshua loves the idea of having surveillance cameras everywhere?
3/9/2005 3:26:52 PM
No, but I realize that they become necessary when a limited police force is asked to protect a large population, they help to streamline public safety, allowing fewer officers to protect the masses. The fact is that these cameras are all in public places, which is completely legal. I would be worried if the government began placing cameras on private property, but that isn't the case. I attended a conference with a gentleman who was a big part of the fight against Irish terrorism for over 20 years, and his stories of what the government could get away with over the were wild. The have several times as many cameras as the US (per person) because they have no written constitution limting the power of the government and protecting the average citizen's write to privacy.Just for the sake of sharing: At the conference he explained that when the British government first began combatting Irish terrorism in the 1960s the first thing that they did was set up laundry services in violent Irish neighborhoods that were clandestinely operated by the police. By offering introductory deals cleaning linens, they got most households to bring their laundry to be cleaned. At this point they tested all cloth for exposure to nitrates, and quickly knew exactly which houses had explosives in them. He noted that none of this would be possible in the US due to our limits on police power.

DaBird beat me to what I was going to say - that attempted mass murder is not a "common crime". The Patriot Act was passed to combat terrorism in whatever form it could be found, not simply as a tool to combat Al Qaida, although their actions on 9/11/01 provided the impetus for its passage. I'm not a fan of the Patriot Act, although in this case it is very applicable.
