So for page 7, I will bttt the previous question.

nah, there is no error, I'm just not certain that it is running at 100% CPU. Again, looking at the system monitor in RedHat, the CPU is only being used at about 2-3%. Oh, and the reason I used -configonly was just to show you what the output was. I of course don't use that flag when I want to fold. [Edited on December 26, 2003 at 12:42 AM. Reason : ]

here is a screenshot of the system monitor screen:
12/26/2003 2:06:17 AM
It's working fine. It's the core that does all the work and it is running at 96% CPU usage. You are on your way man!
12/26/2003 10:56:25 AM
yeah, I came to understand this a bit later on, too. hey, 4 CPUs runnin now... only prollem is every now and then they want to quit folding after each frame. Trying to get EMIII to see the linux box is a pain, too, but i'll get it. and with that, EMIII just let me know one of the computers has quit folding. damnit. it seems the service stops after each frame. might have to firedaemon it
12/27/2003 2:47:36 AM
^^^I'm not sure why the core is running 3 times above? Do you have more than one instance running?[Edited on December 27, 2003 at 10:07 AM. Reason : .]
12/27/2003 10:07:07 AM
if so you don't want that... it will f' up your WU's unless they are in different directories.[Edited on December 27, 2003 at 12:14 PM. Reason : btw, are you on the NCSU team?]
12/27/2003 12:13:47 PM
12/27/2003 12:55:42 PM
yeah, I'm on the NCSU team. as for the three cores running... well, that's just what it shows. i only run it once, naturally...and, yeah, I DO actually have 4 CPUs running... 2 of them are rather lame, P3 600 and a P3 700, but they get the job done. Plus, I have had trouble w/ the services stopping after each frame is completed...
12/27/2003 4:03:50 PM
you should be producing much more... atleast something weekly do you run it all the time or just sometimes? the 600-700 should be doing atleast one to two a week, are they still having problems?
12/27/2003 7:34:16 PM
well, just started em yesterday.

12/29/2003 3:16:38 AM
Nice you just passed like 20 people hopefully you can help us turn this slope the other direction I was thinking most people must be on break from folding while at home with the parents. Instead they should be hooking their parents CPU's up with the program (since it is for a good cause and all).

Welcome to our newest member: HiWay!Here is a repost of a flash video made for recruiting new folders. It's pretty well done.http://www.teamshort-media.com/videos/foldflash2.html
12/29/2003 10:27:18 AM
nice i have been looking for something of that nature... also sounds like the score from american beauty. will have to try and convince those at work will just forward the email and the team number, etc...
12/29/2003 10:53:51 AM
Well, looks like things are on the up and up for us... Ranked 106 currently. Won't make top 100 my Jan 1, but won't be long. I hope to get my P4 2.8ghz (533fsb) up soon. This will no doubt help us out some. I'll have 9 machines running soon....
12/29/2003 7:35:19 PM
I have 2 instances running on 3 machines. If you want to do this, not only do they have to run in their own directories, but you should also use the -local flag on at least one of the instances. I run it on both. If not, it will reference the instance registered in the registry. Just my $.02.I am right aren't I KRUZNBY?
12/29/2003 7:41:40 PM
That's right. I always forget the -local flag at first. Glad to see you will be ramping up!Just noticed chemp(scanZero) is ramping up big time. Nearly 2k/week. Way to go![Edited on December 30, 2003 at 1:47 AM. Reason : chemp]

so i have been looking at pics of farms on the web... i have two amd k7 processors (500 and 700)that i would like to get folding if i could do so cheaply. i have some other random parts but would like to find a cheap mobo w/ integrated lan/vid/etc... to try and hook up... any thoughts?
12/30/2003 4:34:05 PM
Unless you can get a cheap used mobo, it's not worth it to buy a new one. Someone was selling a ECS K7S5A on TWW for $20 I think, but I think it will only take Durons and XP's. I had a AMD 450 and it was horrible at Folding compared to a PIII450. The old AMD's had poor Floating Point performance. There's usually a thread on [H]ard|OCP on building the cheapest/best boxes/blades. If you or anyone else is short a part, you can post here and maybe one of us can help you out. garfuss's warehouse sale maybe a good place to look for a bunch of cheap video and LAN cards.

^^ true and it would be more energy efficient to get something new with the power consuption... will be thinking and keeping it in mind.also aaronburro should be going green soon if he keeps it up... also we are up on users participating which will hopefully edge us back up and move our stats forwards and keep off the other groups...
12/31/2003 3:48:09 PM
just a note to people such as stone and poe from the team... if you throw in the -advmethods tag to your shortcut you won't get the big burdens anymore this will make it where your production will probably double... mine did it will make it where you won't get as many tinkers which take forever and aren't balanced "point" wise.

Happy New Year everyone! We just passed the University of Hawaii today. I'd like to thank everyone for their support and contined effort. I know we have some people that come and go and that will always be the case. When this thread started, we were producing around 3,000 points/week and we have quadrupled that to around 12,000. Soon we will be in the Top 100 and then the next step will be to lead the ACC in folding by passing Georgia Tech Sometime in March at our current pace. I'd also like to see some of our Folders get into the Top 1000 users. I can never quite break 1000, but maybe someday.Congrats on a great year and good luck this year!
1/1/2004 2:10:58 PM
my last one was 2500 :| :|
1/1/2004 2:35:24 PM
"going green?" sorry, i'm not up on teh lingo. Oh, and it seems that the service mostly trips out when I do anything which uses up a lot of CPU time, such as games. I just now restart the service after anything like that, and I have no real prollems.
1/1/2004 2:54:28 PM
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_members.php?TeamID=59Producing >500, <1000 will make you "go green" on the stats page... something fun to watch...KRUZNBY it looks like you are in contentions for it but still a ways to go for top1000 http://statsman.ww-testsites.co.uk/folding2stats/html/users.html the lowest on the chart has ~8,000 more than you. it is fun to watch that stat though. I am going for top 10 on team then top 5,000 users, makes the journey more fun to have goals here and there...
1/1/2004 3:21:00 PM
Ok. Not to sound discouraged or anything, but can anyone explain to me how anyone can have 514 active processors in a week? http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/userpage?name=plext I was just looking at the top 1000 players and he's #1, averaging 3.5+ mil. in a week? How is this possible? I think we're doing great though BTW...
1/3/2004 12:20:55 AM
I heard someone on their team is an IT leader or something at a major university. I'm guessing that's where they come from.
1/3/2004 12:54:38 AM
KRUZNBY, the ramp up is b/c of two quad cpu boxes got some WUs for the christmas break. we'll see if I can keep them running...as they are my performance boxes for development testing. which entails fresh images to be loaded of the OS, etc, etc.....=not WU completion friendly.
1/3/2004 1:16:24 AM
^Great idea to burn them in over the holidays! I know there are some people over at [H]OCP that run hard diskless with either thumb drives or off a CD. I'm not sure how well that would work on a quad system, but at least you would not have to re-install F@H each time you load a fresh image. Better yet put F@H in the image. jk Let me know if I can help out.

1/9/2004 6:48:06 PM
we have hit 10,000 WU's also here is an interesting article about a 600CPU computer stanford uses for testing out it's WU's before we get them. It's #319 in the world's fastest.http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=7090[Edited on January 10, 2004 at 3:04 PM. Reason : added link]
