I will add at least one valid concern that I just remembered - I need to go back and source this but if memory serves me correctly, Russia x number of years ago stated clearly to U.S. diplomats that it would have no problem using tactical nuclear weapons during a conflict. Nukes are pretty much the only way Russia could prevent itself from losing a war so it's a credible threat. I can certainly see why people are averse to a war with them considering that, though the question is how credible is it. Not to mention, they could just claim that and continue doing whatever they want in which case we are right back to the point dtownral made.
