^^Duke, your advice to democrats is completely irrelevant, because you're steadfast agaist any form of compromise, so it is of no use to listen to your opinion, because you'll never budge.

Regardless of your ideology (which we've gone over every 10 pages or so on this thread), it strategically serves no purpose to try and compromise with a bloc who refuses to compromise.

Why would he budge? Every bit of compromise has been "take more rights away." There's a point where you realize "compromise" means "losing". Democrats can use "compromise" on gun control until there are literally no guns left on the street, because their "compromise" never goes the other way.

Put differently, suppose you had $100 bux and a guy comes up and says "GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY". You say "no, fucker!" he says "let's compromise, just give me half of it and I'll go away." OK, that's compromise, you think, so you do.

The next day, he comes back and says "GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!" You tell him "I gave you 50 yesterday, fuck off." he says, "ok, let's compromise, just give me half of it and I'll go away." And you do.

The next day, he comes back and says "GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!" You tell him "I've given you 75 bux, fuck off." he says, "ok, let's compromise, just give me half of it and I'll go away." And you do.

The next day, he comes back and says "GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!" You tell him "I've given you 87.50 bux, fuck off." he says, "ok, let's compromise, just give me half of it and I'll go away." And you do.

You've compromised 4 times and you have 12.50 left. And the fucker comes back the next day...

that's not true, you stupid sonofabitch. your side is the side that won't compromise.

Elementary school children and senators get shot in this country, and your sides version of compromise is to arm teachers. It's not even close, and I really wish you were smart enough to let the more educated people in your camp represent you rather than take it upon yourself to shit all over meaningful debate with your goddamn senseless analogy.

Fuck me.

Of course we won't fucking compromise. We've never had to, because the Constitution is plainly on our side, but we have, and the only result has been more and more of our rights being ripped away from us in the name of security theatre. The whole point is that the anti-gun idiots can "compromise" away the entire 2nd Amendment.

I don't think JHC knows about any of the previous "gun-rights" compromises. He posts like there are no regulations, infringements, or laws. Plenty of compromise has occurred. I'm not saying I'm against further changes, but to whine that one side won't compromise when in the last 100 years they've compromised again and again is disingenuous.

\/Are you purposefully being obtuse or are you just getting dumber? There have been victories and there have been compromises, aka "losses". If you don't have the mental capacity to know that what JHC posted isn't true, or to know that even with some gains, compromises have been made, then leave.

Depending on what sort of "arming teachers" you mean, I'm either fine with it or vehemently against it. A few nut jobs have suggested compulsory arming. That is fucking retarded, although that position is the domain of the lunatic fringe. If you mean "can CC like they do everywhere else to no ill effect", then yeah I'm fine with that.

the facts are not on your side, gun nuts have had victory after victory. and their victories even extend beyond gun legislation, for example right now Obama's Surgeon General nominee is being blocked, even by people who endorsed him, because the NRA said to.

name one right that has been "ripped" away from you over the past 5 years

if anything, gun laws have become far more relaxed over the past 5 years

but keep up with the persecution complex

Arming teachers is one of those hilariously flawed solutions that follows from the theory that "more guns = less violence". Just like "richer rich people = less poor people". The further down you go, the more those factually unsubstantiated arguments start to break down.

Like the responsible 73 year old retired police officer who had a monetarily burst of rage and shot a guy because he was texting in the theater and threw popcorn at him?

I wonder what that teacher that recently was suspended for fighting with a student would have done if he was armed? (i'm not saying the teacher was in the wrong in this instance, but what if he had a gun?)

I know, these are just isolated incidents.

^ those aren't reasons people should be denied CC rights. If we have any CC, it doesn't make sense to then block CC in some places.

The solution is to increase the responsibility CC holders have. If they use their weapon inappropriately, there should be no leniency, not for a misunderstanding or mistake. You can't "think" someone has a gun when they have nothing (or just skittles...), you have to know.

I think anyone who shoots someone shouldn't be given a free pass if they "mistake" them for being a robber, or for having a weapon, and they are either. If you shoot your spouse because you hear them rustling around at night, you should go to jail. People shouldn't be shooting at things blindly.

you have got to be kidding me. gun rights didn't appear 5 years ago. Some victories in the last 5 years don't erase the "compromises" made decades ago.

And if one were a resident of certain states, then in the last 5 years you've seen drastic gun control legislation passed and rights ripped away.

^^and I don't disagree with that. If you people would read what I wrote, I said that what JHC posted was not true and that was the point I was making. Compromises have occurred. Rights have been eroded and are slowly being restored in some ways and some places. However, that's not a universal truth, mostly the truth, but not universal.

The issue with your 90% statement is that no legislation has been offered the even comes close to what 90% of Americans agree with. 90% of Americans may agree that background checks should be made on firearm sales. 90% of Americans don't agree that such checks should occur for temporary transfers, family gifts, temporary custody, 24 hr notification rules, or even private sales, etc.

for all intents and purposes, my family back in VA are basically gun nuts. Mom has a huge stack of gun periodicals for bathroom reading and goes to the shooting range regularly. i really can't fathom when/why she got so into firearms, as this was never something i dealt with growing up. she lives in an incredibly safe suburban neighborhood and the odds of her ever even needing to use a gun to protect herself and so miniscule it's laughable. my dad isn't any better and even my 32 year old sister wants to buy a gun and she's a 3rd grade school teacher. if anyone, i should be the one who has a gun. i live in freaking Oakland, CA ffs and i've never had a single instance where i felt my life was in danger or that i needed a gun to protect myself.

the problem with gun enthusiasts is that they view the world through an incredibly paranoid and almost persecuted lens. i can't imagine going through life anticipating the next time i'd have to be armed and ready. it's literally a world i don't want to live in.

gun nuts don't listen to facts or reason. they use fear and emotion to justify their affinity for firearms, which is why having a debate or compromise is so impossible. they cling to the constitution like it's some holy gospel and kick/scream whenever anyone tries to make it more difficult for mentally unstable people to get guns.

so maybe you should go after the mentally unstable?

they cause so many problems with other inanimate objects, or with nothing at all.

again, keep it up. you, shrike, obama... reasonable people when it comes to gun control are drowned out by you.

you claim to be anti gun (and again) because you are so short sighted and stupid you help sell millions of guns in short order.

and yes, you sell them to the scary paranoid people that scare the shit out of reasonable gun owners.

you are their greatest ally, not the NRA (the NRA loves you too btw). youre on the wrong side and the simple reason is obama / democrat hero worship and blind worshiping of any / all their agenda items.

its really sad to both be the intellectual mallet slammed into the face of bible thumping conservative retards, while at the same time being mindless automatons that cant accept the above simple truths.

i'm not inherently anti-gun though. if people want firearms for hunting or security, good for them. just because i personally don't feel the need to be armed, doesn't mean i think NOBODY should have a gun EVER. you're creating this false binary between a room where everyone is pointing a gun at each other or no guns at all, period. it's not that simple

sounds like your parents just enjoy going to the range.. none of that first paragraph sounds "nuts" at all. i'm assuming there's more to the anecdote?

not every person that wants a gun or enjoys having one is huddled in a corner with their finger twitching.

whats simple is the fact that people are stupid obviously, unavoidable, and your fervent lock-step with obama / democrat agenda items is arming them in droves.

then you wonder why a debate is impossible, well, i dont understand why its so hard for you to grasp that youre inflating your opposition.

and then you have morons like Shrike claiming that in fact the inverse is true? numbers are diminishing? have you not seen Ruger's profits or NRA memberships?

you guys are truly working for the "enemy" and i dont know how much further it can be broken down for you.

you only have three choices really:

1) shut up and accept an occasional crazy person massacre

2) go after something else besides guns that might affect the situation, like crazy people

3) go balls in and just confiscate the shit, hope that federal agents etc dont get massacred

i don't feel sorry for any of them. they live comfortably and seem to be happy. the word you're looking for is 'embarrassed'. college educated folks who live in bucolic suburbia don't need firearms for protection, and the fact they feel they do shows a real disconnect with reality. i'd blame Fox News, since it always seems to be on the background, but i'm sure their retarded gun-loving, Obama-hating friends have even more to do with it. again, my parents aren't some dumb, backwoods hicks- they're dumb Republicans with money and too much time on their hands. i'd also blame it on religion, but fortunately that doesn't appeal to them

So again, just to clarify, who and what are all these people afraid of?

Why are their friends, FoxNews, church(?), etc, arming them?

Why the sudden fad?

*If* just maybe it has something to do with idk, Obama, Feinstein, liberal college students,... Doesn't it seem like maybe those people are doing the wrong thing..?.

Doesn't it seem like they're kind of accomplishing the opposite of what you want?

Don't you think maybe you should complain about their approach instead of championing it?

Just maybe?

Nope! That would be against marching orders! To hell with common sense!
