who sweats a lot? I've always wondered why i sweat a lot. I consider myself to be in alright shape but in the afternoons when i run it literally looks like i took a shower or got rained on (it is 95 out i guess which contributes to the problem). It's only when i do physical activity. Even working out at the gym doing circuit work i sweat a good bit. I heard it's a good way to get rid of excess sodium. What's everyone's view on this?
7/28/2010 7:30:13 PM
I wonder if we discussed this ON THE PREVIOUS 2 PAGES?

oh yeah. thanks.

i'm willing to bet there are more than a few people that haven't actively participated in this thread but have been inspired by you guys to get off their asses. i'm one of them. after a pretty long period with very minimal physical exercise, in small part because of a busy work schedule but mostly because i'm a lazy lard ass, seeing the progress in this thread pushed me off the couch. i'm still not interested in participating in terms of posting diet, workout schedule, etc, but i did want to stop by and say thanks to all of you.i feel better (both mentally and physically) and my life is definitely better now than it was before.THANKS TWW!

ok, so I'm wondering how many calories packing burns... I've been eating not so well all week (I've been eating out a lot... not all places have been terrible but I certainly haven't been trying to find the healthiest meal possible). Welllll, before I packed my scale up I decided to weigh myself because I felt bloated and I like to do crazy things like make myself feel guilty... it was the exact same as my lowest weight, but I was all bloated feeling. I was all WTF. So anyways, in short, I guess my exercise for the week has been packing?... I ran two days so that also might've helped.
7/29/2010 8:26:25 AM
^^ That's why you get little goo packets and cups of gatorade along with the water at water stations on marathons, etc. Typically on a half, I won't take any water until after mile 6 and then I will drink one cup of gatorade around mile 10 or 11. That way I can replenish some of the lost electrolytes.I really recommend that you start drinking this: It's got what athletes crave. [Edited on July 29, 2010 at 8:27 AM. Reason : ^ pussy control!]

I guess i typically try to listen to my body about water intake. I never knew the 16 ounce/pound rule but i've sweat 2-3 pounds before and i typically drink a liter or more after a run like that so I guess i'm good. I don't really eat much processed food but i eat lots of bread so i assume i get enough sodium.
7/29/2010 8:43:40 AM
^^^I think you can afford to take a week to just get your shit in order for the move [Edited on July 29, 2010 at 8:45 AM. Reason : argh]
7/29/2010 8:44:51 AM
Im ready for this to be over
7/29/2010 9:03:29 AM
well I know I'm allowed a week, but I figured since I wasn't working out and not eating that well I'd notice a difference... I guess moving around for 6+ hours this past week has helped
7/29/2010 9:05:39 AM
you're just increasing your N.E.P.A non-exercise physical activity
7/29/2010 9:10:11 AM
haha yup that's one thing I'm so excited about as far as going to school... even though I'll be sitting in class for a few hours a day, I will be walking much, much more to get to classes and such. A lot better than being at a desk for almost 8 hours a day!

anyone have a favorite site for purchasing protein shakes etc? if you have coupon codes too, that would be the bomb.com

I believe he means that your time might be better spent on weight training. Really though it depends on your goal.
7/29/2010 8:08:18 PM
i just dont think youre going to get results as easy doing jumping jacks/pushups as you are doing a few compound lifts.
7/29/2010 8:43:16 PM
I am not trying to get huge or anything. I'd like to add some muscle mass and then get it looking nice. Hence the copious amounts of protein. We'll see how these 90 days go. If I don't get the "results that I am looking for" then I have the winter to bulk up if need be with a separate routine.
7/29/2010 9:54:34 PM
if bulking up was so easy you wouldnt be small.not trying to be mean but i think for a hardgainer or skinny person p90x is just stupid.[Edited on July 29, 2010 at 10:27 PM. Reason : ]
7/29/2010 10:26:05 PM
p90x is more for the "former high school/college athlete" who stopped physical activity and has been on an accidental bulk ever since they stopped being so active...as in you've got some mass underneath and you'll use p90x to shred and shed. I think it is way too intense to promote an anabolic environment although I think you could make some gains given a caloric surplus at the end of the day. the only way anyone is going to get huge, who isn't naturally huge, is via steroids and calories. if you're happy with the mass you have now and just want to shed fat, stick with p90x, else I'd drop most cardio intense activity to a few days/wk and lift a few days/wk and just eat healthy and frivolously
7/29/2010 10:33:25 PM
I've always been skinny/active. Ran track in high school along with marching band and ROTC. Played hockey in college, skated most everyday until a few years ago. I had more core definition back then (I also rode my bike 3mi each day to school) and over time just lost a bit of how I was. I feel like I gained a little weight in my midsection but nothing like love handles or a muffintop ( ). I don't mind being lean, I just want what I have to look nice and defined. If there is a better alternative that it easy to follow and something I can do from home, I am open to suggestions.
7/29/2010 11:03:39 PM
I agree with what Quinn and porcha posted, in that the p90x is not geared for someone to gain weight and muscle mass. However, with HockeyRoman's post^, then I think p90x is right in line with his goals. Not to gain weight or muscle mass, but instead to cut down fat and get shredded. From my understanding, you won't really gain too much muscle, but what you have will get cut and more defined.Basically, sounds like you want to go from 'skinny and undefined' to 'skinny and cut' with higher definition of muscles. Plus with the fact that p90x can easily be done at home makes it an easy way to attain his goals...even if it is a slight variation of them.
7/30/2010 3:55:11 AM
when I read skinny I didn't think he was looking to lose body fat. Skinny fat is a stupid phrase in my opinion . Ranks up there with 'but he/she can't lift that much' and 'i want to get toned' in stupid gym phrases. If you're over a certain bf as a male youre just not skinny anymore. Doesn't mean you are in bad shape. Someone needs to recreate our species after the next ice age
7/30/2010 8:07:48 AM
Eh, it may not be technically accurate, but it's a good descriptor nonetheless. Last year, I was 5'11 and 160 pounds. I was soft. Had some love handles and a bit of pudge on my belly, but I don't know anyone who would have called me fat. I still wore a 30 inch waist pants and small/medium t-shirts. I was skinny-fat. Now I'm down to a relatively toned 145 lbs and I am legitimately skinny.[Edited on July 30, 2010 at 8:35 AM. Reason : d]
7/30/2010 8:32:57 AM
maybe its just hard for me to relate . 160lbs sounds like a great weight!
7/30/2010 9:09:18 AM
I'm 6'3 and hover between 210-215 and most people wouldn't call me fat either
7/30/2010 9:23:48 AM
