another retard question:how do I upload my videos and photos from my DX to my PC
8/23/2010 1:29:07 PM
plug into computer and mount sd card (should be an option in the notification bar). Phone will mount as external storage so just open that, create a folder called Pictures and drag them into the folder.

Here's a fun question: How do I insert pics from my droid x into google talk IM sessions?

Do they have a trillian app out for the droid now?

yeah, it's in beta. http://www.androidcentral.com/trillian-multi-client-im-app-now-open-beta-android

Looks like the secondary Droid 1 update to enable flash should be coming tomorrowhttp://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/23/breaking-verizon-releasing-update-to-allow-flash-10-1-installation-starting-tomorrow/
8/23/2010 8:05:22 PM
Flash APK for anyone who wants it. It's the APK from the Droid X 2.2 leak but it works on any 2.2 phone. I installed it on the Droid 1 I have running CM6 RC3.
8/23/2010 10:38:40 PM
I wonder if the Droid Pro will have ATT GSM bands...

asurion doesn't have any Evo's in stock...and now sprint wants me to find a service center so they can assess my dead pixel...wonder what they'll do once they see it next week.i might try to pull this one out too when the epic comes out...see if they upgrade me.http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2010/08/htc_evo_4g_suffering_from_usb_charging_issues.html[Edited on August 24, 2010 at 5:28 AM. You don't want to go through Asurion anyway, get an Advanced Exchange.
8/24/2010 5:34:39 AM
what's that? google's not turning up anything definitive either
8/24/2010 5:51:02 AM
You only have to use Asurion (100.00 deductible) when you lose it or there is significant water damage. If it's a manufacturer's defect then you call Sprint and ask to speak with advanced tech support. You can sometimes just get them to overnight you a refurb without taking it to the store. It's basically this process listed here except without all the hassle and variables involved in convincing a rep to give you a different phone. (Or maybe so, if you're after the Epic). Basically if you're within the 30 days you take it back for a new one or refund. 31 days - 1 year and you use the manufacturer's warranty. Outside of that, your TEP extends the warranty to cover all defects free of charge. It's only when you really fuck up that you need to make an actual insurance claim.http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1595357[Edited on August 24, 2010 at 6:06 AM. Reason : . ]

I just got an Evo, would it be best to get the 2.2 update before I do anything at all?
8/24/2010 7:02:14 AM
If you're not going to root it, then yeah I would update. If you ever think you may want to, then follow toast's guide at xda-developers and download CM6 or FreshEvo or some other patched 2.2 rom.
8/24/2010 7:30:55 AM
i'm it's been talked about ad nauseum on previous pages, but what's the benefit of rooting vs. using 2.2? didn't a lot of the features you can do through rooting pop up on 2.2?
8/24/2010 9:12:25 AM
Overclocking, removing bloat apps, FREE wireless tethering, and custom roms that generally run smoother and have more features
8/24/2010 9:30:35 AM
ooh. the wireless tethering seems worth it. what about using the hotspot functionality without paying for it through Sprint?
8/24/2010 9:33:47 AM
That's what's being referred to as wifi tethering.
8/24/2010 9:39:42 AM
Don't think you can actually unlock the Sprint hotspot app. There's a couple wireless/wifi tethering apps in the market (barnacle and wireless tether for root users-requires custom kernel) that can be used but it just creates a regular ad-hoc network so there may be some devices that can't use it.
8/24/2010 9:44:00 AM
Anyone in here ever use BookDroid?http://www.absent.fi/mobile/?id=88Ran across it today looking for a nice audiobook app and I really like a lot of the features. It is a non-market app and I am not well-versed enough in Android stuff so far to be able to know why something like this that seems cool and legit would be non-market if it doesn't need to be rooted to use. Just trying to be cautious. Sounds nice though:
8/24/2010 11:17:48 AM
^^ If you any of you have a variation of the Galaxy, the Wireless Tether app that came with the International Galaxy (removed by US carriers) is available and it is not ad-hoc.... works flawlessly.
8/24/2010 1:48:32 PM
Oh yeah, sorry I wasn't thinking wrt ad-hoc.
8/24/2010 1:55:07 PM
omg, droid x is here.overwhelmed.
8/24/2010 5:17:43 PM
^^^What app is that?
8/24/2010 5:59:50 PM
Tried to connect my X to the computer via for the first time since I've owned it tonight. Anytime I connect it to the computer it automatically restarts. I quickly see on the status bar that it recognizes it is plugged into the computer but then it just restarts itself. Anyone have this happen? Any suggestions?edit: Actually now sometimes when it is starting up, it says "preparing SD Card" or something on the notification bar and then restarts itself immediately. No changes to my phone today. Don't think I even loaded any new apps. Only new thing I tried today was connecting it to my computer tonight.I have nothing on my SD card at the moment, but I did try to see if I could format it but it wouldnt obviously since there was nothing on there. Anytime I try to unmount it it restarts as well.[Edited on August 24, 2010 at 10:30 PM. Reason : ]

I want to throw this fucking phone in the trash. Had the update last week and was just bored and was scrolling around and found out that it loaded a twitter app and all of my facebook pictures are on this thing. Wtf.

nooo not your facebook pictures!!1

Probably a lame question, but....with the Gmail app, is there a way to mark all unread e-mails as read? I'd rather not click each one while in the Gmail app.
8/25/2010 6:52:12 AM
I just messed around with it and while there's a check mark for Batch Operations on Labels, I've only been able to find Deselect All . Looks like other people have been going to the browser version to select all.
8/25/2010 8:02:43 AM
Good to know, I'll have to look around and see if there's a good aggregator that pulls e-mails from Gmail and would be better for managing the account on this phone.
8/25/2010 8:05:04 AM
K-9 can do it.http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.fsck.k9
8/25/2010 8:15:02 AM
yea, honestly, the gmail functions on the phone seem a little weak to me considering it is a google based phone. I was a little disappointed. Still gets the job done but I might have to check that out ^.Also, for anyone else that runs into a problem like I did with the phone restarting upon USB connection or the phone restarting/freezing when you try to unmount the SD card, I figured out a weird solution last night. Read on a bunch of forums and someone finally told me to turn off the notification sound associated with the SD card. I had never messed with that setting so it was still on. Apparently there is some bug/error associated with that sound since a lot of people have run into that problem they said. I was skeptical but it actually worked.
8/25/2010 8:34:22 AM
Liking the K-9 mail so far, thanks for the recommendation.I have Advanced Task Killer now and I swear every time I open it up there's some new application running that I didn't start using. I wonder if it's a bug in the program or if there's some reason these apps keep starting up on their own.
8/25/2010 9:11:16 AM
I stopped using ATK, but it seems to be quite the controversial subject.http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 10:26 AM. Reason : ]

ha, I'm not even going to get on the task killer subject. Pretty nifty task switching app http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/08/24/android-gets-app-switching-eye-candy-visual-task-switcher-now-available-on-the-market/]

Man, Tasker rocks.
8/25/2010 12:24:00 PM
^Been reading some awesome stuff about that. Might have to try it out myself.
8/25/2010 1:15:46 PM
Also wanting to try tasker... but curious if I could really get anything out of it. My phone seems to do everything I could ask from it.What do you do with tasker (like... what made it worth it to you)?
8/25/2010 2:04:31 PM
interesting read on ATK. guess I'll stop using it and see how things go.what's funny is that the verizon rep had me install it before they let me out of the store.
8/25/2010 2:12:05 PM
I actually paid the 6 bucks just to have my GPS turn on when using Maps and off on exiting. Some profiles/ideas I've come across and will probably check out in the future. Honestly, it's as if the possibilities are endless with access to just about every If X, then Y scenario.-If face down, silence/vibrate ringer, disable wifi, gps, bluetooth-Max screen brightness on incoming call-Read aloud incoming SMS-Enable/Disable Wifi based on battery %, location, time of day.-Extremely customizable sync options-Custom widgets (Navigate to POIs, pull up app settings, radio configurations, etc)-Launch programs/Perform actions on headset plugin/remove[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:17 PM. Reason : .]
8/25/2010 2:16:36 PM
yeah, $6 bucks is a little pricey for laziness. lol I just use the Power Control bar for turning on wifi, gps, etc.
8/25/2010 2:35:23 PM
^^ when you say extremely customizable sync options, do you have any examples? That sounds like something I could really utilize depending on the options available. I would love to leave data off most the time and have it turn on my mobile data (if off), auto sync to check for new gmail, hotmail, rss feeds, sports scores etc. and then turn back off and just do that every 30 minutes during say 8:00am to 11:00pm. Seems like I could do that based on the airplane mode example I read about today. Also, I saw some stuff about icons in tasker. Can you replace any app's icon as it appears on your home screen with Tasker? Does it also replace it in your app tray? I didn't see a lot of details on the icons portion of it.Some of the cool stuff I read about it today dealt with:-creating widgets to toggle between keyguard/unlock screen being enabled/disabled-finding your phone via an SMS forcing it to ring/play audio even if on silent/vibrate-airplane mode at night with it automatically checking for messages, voicemails, etc. every X amount of minutes-ability to create your own battery percentage widget with customizable update interval frequencyObviously some of this stuff can be done with other apps, but it can be nice to centralize and have more control over some of the settings. I'll probably end up picking this up for $6.[Edited on August 25, 2010 at 2:58 PM. Reason : ]
