https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/868407229380268033Is this some sort of odd way to try and con his base into think he is making the US money? Or is he just a blithering idiot who has no fucking clue how NATO defense spending commitments work.I weep for those who think he has a clue about anything.
5/27/2017 8:07:22 AM
I don't think he realizes being able to put troops/radars/antiair in Estonia is way more valuable to NATO than whatever they contribute fiscally.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/angela-merkel-donald-trump-germany-us-no-longer-rely-european-union-climate-change-g7-a7760486.htmlThis is deeply disturbing. The Merkel part that is (the Paris agreement is just supposition at this point).I'm actually not opposed to trying to improve relations with Russia (Obama wanted to and Trump obviously does too -- that's fine) BUT you can't go do that at the expense of our closest allies. We are alienating who should be our greatest ally in the Western world.
5/28/2017 11:25:49 AM
It's part of the Bannon philosophy for the us to pull back from being a world player, so I think this Merkel statement is a welcome outcome. I think Merkel might just be using bellicose rhetoric to help her election too, but she might be making a mistake with this stance because it paves the way for a extremist to coopt this rhetoric and take it even farther, and we all know where that lead in the past...Either way, I don't see how this doesn't add a good health dash of instability to the world over the next 10 years. If someone sees a way this creates more stability, please explain...
5/28/2017 1:06:02 PM
There is no improving relations with Russia. Any attempt is used to advance there agenda with no real intent to meet in the middle. At least that's what Bush and Obama learned.
5/28/2017 2:29:48 PM
^^^she didn't say anything near what that headline says
5/28/2017 4:29:22 PM
We have decent science and space cooperation with Russia, obviously trade energy with them. The instability we help create in the middle east is on their doorstep, I can imagine their main interest being what Trump is doing... US too incredulous to cause much trouble for them or to stop or control them.
5/28/2017 4:31:45 PM
So Kushner, who I think is as dumb as Trump but just is shielded by wealth, convinced him to fire comey.I really wonder what other dumb things Trump has been doing that dumb people are convincing Trump are good ideas...?And shouldn't we be very concerned Trump is putting so much power into his unelected children? People assumed Trump had some business acumen (that never was demonstrated) and he would somehow recruit the best experts... But his experts are sycophants recommended by his family and friends.

The other point is you (general, not specific) can believe that weakening relationships with our historical allies is a good or bad thing. It's just hard to make the case it isn't happening whatever your opinion on that is.

So if I were to create a fake resume and apply for a job developing web applications, but I'm actually a network technician and know nothing about programming, am able to bullshit the hiring manager into hiring me, and then continually screw up, I'm to be given a pass because I'm a novice at programming?Because that's basically what I'm hearing. He sold his voters a resume he can't back up.

possibly that the US and Britain are letting Germany be truly at the helms of continental Europe again for the first time since 1945, and that Germans need to be prepared to support the cost of defending their European empire against an increasingly belligerent Russia?Would the US or Britain allow Germany to have nuclear weapons? Is France enough of a nuclear deterrent to protect all of Europe?
5/30/2017 8:10:07 PM
I believe every nation that has the means to protect them (basically the means to develop them) should be allowed to have nuclear weapons. I think it is the best path to permanent world peace. If it works for India/Pakistan, it should work everywhere. If only Iraq and Libya had nuclear weapons before we set our eyes on their countries...

Are there any countries that share the Trump administration's disagreements with the Paris climate agreement that would actually be willing to renegotiate in order to meet the Trump administration's demands?

Paging tulsi, given what you said in the Obama credibility thread, I'm sure you're happy with this decision?

Damn, Elon Musk made good on his promise to leave his position as an "advisor". We need visionary types like him more than ever now.He previously said that he kept his role despite his own employees hating he was involved to affect change. Prettt clear admksses that he essentially realizes no one can change Trump.

I'm not happy with the decision but I found out this would happen a year ago and have had enough time to get over that initial anger.1. The decision to make a non-binding agreement is what I was angry with. Making a non-binding agreement was basically asking for this day. I'm sure the perpetrators knew this, but they had to leave Paris with a "win"- something to pat themselves on the back over and get a short-term bump in the polls. 2. The decision to make pledges to keep warming to 3 degrees when the IPCC clearly gave them a goal of 1.5 degrees is what I was angry with. If someone tells you what you have to do to prevent a catastrophe, you don't do half of it and champion yourselves as saviours. This point is irrelevant though because even a perfect deal would be pointless if it's non-binding. -The end of a fake deal is nothing to be angry about. The only people angry are the people (typically Democrats) who didn't read into enough to understand that it wasn't actually what it was hyped up to be and the politicians who no longer have the "win" to brag about. I can't really blame the politicians on this one because their constituents want that. Kind of like how most Americans want to switch their light bulbs, say they are green, and move on. Some go as far as driving a brand new prius but its very rare to find Americans who want to make actual sacrifices. I still don't understand why people get mad at a politician for doing exactly what he ran on and was elected to do. I would understand being mad at the American people for this, or the deceptive politicians, but this is pretty straight forward. I guess Democrats don't understand that after 8 years of championing a president for "kinda sorta barely" dabbling in most of the things he promised. His justification is pretty much true. He told very few lies today and the major about this being a disadvantage to American workers and economy was completely true. I think that is the issue most important to the American people. Its the American people I don't like but I'm over it and didn't just learn this. Anyone who knows any period of American history should be used to the values of this country by now.
6/1/2017 4:24:31 PM
So I haven't read anything about the Paris Climate Accord yet. But here's what I don't understand based on that caveat: If the agreement held no one to any penalties, that is, if the agreement was toothless, why exactly was it so urgent to pull out?I would presume that if the agreement had no teeth, it was more symbolic in nature and designed to help convince people over the next decade or two that it was an issue that needed to be addressed and that over time, subsequent agreements would have actually had "teeth."So if the agreement was good and had teeth, we're leaving because they don't believe science. And if the agreement was good but had no teeth, we're leaving because somehow the thing that would never penalize us was not fair to us?I'm just not following the logic.
