Platner is my age so I feel some empathy in the sense that I can understand our generation’s approach to edgy and facetious humor. But the way he basically lied about not knowing the meaning seems off. I’m glad the dem primary voters seem to be doing the right thing here. Character matters slightly more than policy for elections.

But… we need to also be getting more comfortable with candidates having clear documentation of bad takes and actions in their past, and candidates need to be more comfortable of owning their journeys. Basically no Gen Z or later is going to be able to run for office under existing standards because their entire lives are indexed by google and meta.

I don’t think they cave until public opinion shifts and so far Trump is losing public opinion. But on just a pragmatic level… there’s a reason we have a 60 vote threshold. Republicans MUST negotiate with democrats, this is how democracy and a Congress is supposed to work. Letting the republicans break this norm, after everything else, would be pathetic.

If democrats cave in this they might as just change the rule.
