got up this morning and rode my bike to NoDa Brewing for the special release of their Pacific Reign Imperial IPA. 8 miles round trip, great ride, even better beer.

i set some aside from this year's batch to start an Expedition vert as well. i got mine for $15.99 + s&H since we don't get Bell's in CO.

no, this time of year it's oak-aged yeti, another one that's great to age. chocolate is feb/march, then espresso, then belgian, then oak-aged.

i don't think NoDa has stretched their market out past the Charlotte-Metro area. The beer on draught is fantastic. It's similar to Foothills' Jade, but a little sweeter due to it being brewed with honey.

I haven't opened a bottle tonight, but there have been several reports of the bottles being flat. I'm hoping it's not an all around problem, but i split a case with a buddy and one of his was flat which makes me think mine could be too.

agreed with above, Hibernation Ale is fantastic. one of my favorites. I bought a sixer. Will probably cellar 3 Hibernations and 3 Expeditions.

Chocolate is actually summerish. I think Oak Aged and Espresso are the cold weather releases.

Same. I'm hopefully going to get an espresso one this week. It showed up on Total Wine near me as "in stock" this weekend and I called to ask and apparently someone found an extra one from the previous batch in the back. Even better with the little bit of aging. Hopefully it's still there when I get time to swing by.

"I'd go to Upslope in Boulder if you're staying there, and I think there's a new brewery called Wild Woods Brewery that's a nanobrewery that just opened. Twisted Pine is good too.

I'd go to Great Divide, Denver Beer Co., Prost & River North all downtown Denver. We have two more breweries opening (Black Shirt Brewing & Our Mutual Friend) and there's a bazillion others on the fringe of downtown Denver to explore. (Strange, Wit's End, TRVE, Vine Street Brewery)"

Thanks a lot for the advice. Had to cut the trip a day and a half short in order to get back before the storm (was scheduled in at 11 pm Monday), but ran into some good stuff...missed out on more Boulder breweries and a trip to Ft. Collins (I'd been to Odell, Funkwerks, and NB, but wanted to return.)

First night took the bus from Boulder to Denver and back, easy and pretty much painless.

Crooked Stave - First stop, did a taster flight, L'Brett d'Or was ridiculous, Oculus bottle to take home
Great Divide - Dig the taproom a lot, wish they'd had more exclusives on but the Alt and Oaked Yeti did me well
Hops & Pie - Great pizza, great draft list
Prost - Maybe my favorite from the trip, the Marzen and Hefe were world-class, bought a kickass pilsner glass

Had more of a liquor night in Boulder Friday, but Saturday we made it out to Avery for some Eremita IV and then to Wild Woods, which I was pretty meh about.

Hated missing River North, Denver Beer Co, and Upslope, but next time...

Picked up a Southern Tier Mokah at Kroger (of all places) tonight. I was a huge fan of their Choklat last year, so I'm excited about seeing how it combines with the coffee flavor. Though we had to order that one online...kind of surprised to see the Mokah randomly in a grocery store. Much easier to find, or was I just lucky?

i freaking love stockyard oatmeal stout this time of year...a 91 at beeradvocate, too...and at $6.50/6-pack, it's a great deal

also, had my first dogfish head 120 IPA while camping this past weekend (aged just shy of 6 months)...it was a gift from a friend, but i think they're, what, $10/bottle? i would never pay for it myself, but it IS extremely good, IMO

yeah, the name leaves a bit to be desired (as in not sounding like "butthole mix") but they've got about 600 beers or so, and everything can be purchased by the bottle (no need for 6packs).

^^there are some things that I could warrant spending $50 on. AleSmith Speedway Stout, Hair of the Dog Adam, etc. Russian River Beers you have to call to order, so not sure if they are in stock or not. I may send an email and ask.

^ there are several i'm interested in, too, but a lot of them don't say "in stock" (they don't say anything at all)...does that mean i have to call? if so, i think i'll pass

having "shopped" that store before..a lot of the ones that say "image coming soon" are usually rare/seasonal beers that aren't in stock. and then for some reason they always make you call to order RR Sours.

Right now i have a cart with

4 x Maui Coconut Porter (12oz)
2 x AleSmith Speedway Stout (22oz)
2 x Goose Island Sofie (22oz)
2 x Hair of the Dog Adam (12oz)

that totals up to be $62.90. Not sure if i'll pull the trigger or not .

the prices don't seem like anything special...about in line with something like total wine's regular price or at any number of specialty bottle stores...but no tax, free shipping, and the ability to shop without going anywhere might make it worth it if you were going to buy something, anyway

i don't think the draw is the price but the availability of beers that you can't get in north carolina

i think on that site the Sofie is $7.99 for a 22oz and the 4 pack of Maui Coconut was $12. not completely unreasonable.

Ordering liquor online isn't illegal so long as the store has a shipping license and so long as your state allows it, but most online stores check your state before shipping.

Quality is good, as well as these others that I frequent:

i used to live a few miles from the dogfishhead brewery in Lewes Delaware, a great little historic town. (no fuck you, it isnt from rehoboth beach, that is just the bar) 90 minute IPA from them is super good. im sure that 120 minute one is just some shit they whipped up to compete with that chimay garbage. beer isnt supposed to be sweet and sticky god dammit. although, if you pour that shit on some ice cubes it is a little better.

i had quite the opposite first impression, i'd never seen an energy drink that looks like a candy cane before, although i see your point there's no artwork, just a logo. the pumpkin one's were pretty cool too:

North Carolina does not allow such transactions despite what most out-of-state stores will tell you.

haha i love surly's cans.

their fest beer can is awesome.

^had the gb a few weeks ago, and wow. just for the price though it's a bit much for something i'd buy normally...

have a 2009->2011 vertical of the OG in 375mLs. happened unintentionally actually, from trade extras and random findings in stores out of state while traveling. might do a comparison in the spring.
