Pat McRory hates unemployed people.
9/3/2013 1:57:36 PM
Why?
9/3/2013 2:15:49 PM
i am still looking, getting sick of the no reply crap....at least a form letter woudl be cool.. had a couple interviews...but nothing solid
9/4/2013 3:28:24 PM
It's past July shoot.
9/4/2013 8:02:11 PM
I don't get u.
9/4/2013 8:08:12 PM
Sorry, I'll try to respond using broken English in the future. It doesn't matter if you're a genius shoot if you can't convey that to people...
9/5/2013 2:43:04 PM
What pasts July?
9/5/2013 2:46:35 PM
The current date. You said you have an interview in July.Have is not past tense.
9/5/2013 3:20:06 PM
OK.

So... yeah, I was laid off two days before I found out I was pregnant, and I have been looking for a job since. At this point, I am showing and its more than obvious. Also, I am pretty much just applying for jobs for unemployment purposes and the small hopes of landing one. So far I have had a few interviews (while not showing), but nothing yet. I have an in person interview Monday and a phone interview Tuesday. If I get a job before the little guy gets here, I plan to take some time off but I am planning on going back as soon as I can. I know there are laws that try to protect against discrimination, but I can also understand things from the employer's point of view and hiring a person that is a flight risk.Does anyone have any insight on preggo ladies and the job search? Any interview tips for a pregnant lady? And if I don't find something, its not that big of a deal, but it just helps to know if I'm wasting my time setting up interviews and what not.

^ Damn, that sucks. Do you have any customer service experience? There are a lot of companies now that outsource their customer service to "work from home" type companies. You'll probably have to weed through a lot of scams, but it's an option. I honestly can't see you landing any type of worthwhile job if they know you'll be taking maternity leave in a few months.

Apparently my company is looking for someone. I saw this posted on one of the manager's linked-in page:Local restoration company seeks creative individual with a strong personality. Ideal candidate has a background in graphic design and/or marketing, a willingness to learn and take initiative with minimal direction. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be flexible and open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop highly recommendedI have no other info about the job but if anyone is interested, I can pass along the contact info of the person who posted it.

My companies hiring for Denver or Charlotte. Basically trying to backfill my position that I left in Charlotte. Ideally we're looking for someone with analytical SQL skills (OLAP, star schema, etc) but also with good client facing business/data analytic skills.aka someone who's comfortable in UNIX/SQL environments but also very comfortable presenting in front of clients.

Has anyone in this thread been continually unemployed since 2008?
9/10/2013 5:38:14 PM
When you're told that the company is "moving quickly with interviews".... do you take that to mean they are moving quickly with the offer/hiring process as well?
9/16/2013 2:27:12 PM
yes
9/16/2013 3:29:48 PM
Whew... I told my new boss I was preggers and he was like "Thats great, you'll get 6 weeks maternity leave and see you back after that. The chick I'll be working with is also preggers but will be taking her leave next month. I am stoked that he was so accepting. Yay!
9/16/2013 3:42:33 PM
What were you expecting, him to say you can't have it?

9/16/2013 4:42:26 PM
guise - have any of you applied to jobs on craigslist? it seems a little sketchy, but desperate times... many of them ask to send a cover letter, but then don't specify what their company is. for example "____ needed for highly efficient ____ firm!" should i just make the cover letter very vague? i always assume the cover letter is where you highlight your area of expertise for working at that particular company. but if you don't know what the company is, how can you do that? normally i would ignore that kind of posting, but i'm getting a bit needy.
9/17/2013 2:23:27 PM
Sounds pretty sketch. I think the one guy I contacted off CL called me back and asked to converse about the position.

Linkedin jobs are junk?? Maybe a little portion of it I think but most of them look real.
9/17/2013 5:05:18 PM
Maybe I should have separated linked-in from the others to better clarify. The jobs on linked-in are real, its just that I found very very few that were local and in my field. I found a bunch that were national listings if I was interested in moving to some big city. But I wasn't open to that. So I think I only had two interviews out of the dozens that I've been on over the years that came from linked-in
9/17/2013 5:10:45 PM
There are many local IT jobs on linkedin. You should think about changing your major.
9/17/2013 5:40:06 PM
yeah. i should change my majoranyway - that's a good idea ptty- i'm thinking i'll only contact the job listings that provide a company name, for now[Edited on September 17, 2013 at 5:45 PM. Reason : ]
9/17/2013 5:44:02 PM

Keep putting out those resumes guys. I was starting to get discouraged after like 2 months of sending out 20 resumes a day without a response. I finally got a call and started a new job 2 weeks ago. Since starting my current job, I have gotten several calls from companies I applied to months ago. I know the waiting game sucks, but when it rains it pours.
9/18/2013 9:19:01 AM
^both times i was unemployed, it took me ~2 months
9/18/2013 9:24:34 AM
big job fair coming uphttp://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/blog/2013/09/triangle-job-seekers-mark-this-date.html?ana=twt
9/18/2013 9:28:18 AM
Yeah, it's weird. I am getting calls from places I don't even remember applying to. I mean, do they just collect resumes for a couple months before they actually start going through them?
9/18/2013 9:30:17 AM
yeah i've gotten calls 6 months after i applied
9/18/2013 9:58:45 AM
I feel bad for the folks on here who cannot find jobs. I guess it is a skills match thing or maybe a location issue. I get contacted all the time by head hunters with some very lucrative openings. I am pretty happy with my current job so I always say thanks, but no thanks. I hope for the best for all of those looking...
9/19/2013 3:06:17 PM
Starting a new job today, which is from a call-back I got after starting another (shitty) job. This is the one I really wanted, so hopefully this will be THE LAST TIME I EVER POST IN THIS THREAD!!!
9/24/2013 9:24:07 AM
^^Headhunters on Linkedin or elsewhere?^Congrats dude

Landed my first nursing job earlier this month. Between my recruiter having a family emergency, getting sent wrong paperwork (relocation instead of transfer), and having my start date pushed back 2 weeks due to unclear status on when to start orientation because of being a university employee transferring in vs. being a hospital employee, it's been...a headache? I now start Oct. 7th. 2 weeks off to clean and packing in anticipation of moving in a month or so.

I was offered a job! I start this week. It's not full time (no benefits), but I'll work more than 40 hours some weeks. HOORAY for employment!

If any meteorologists are looking for a job, my old one just got posted. It's in Columbia, SC (only a 3 hour drive from the Triangle!) and it can certainly give you some practical forecasting experience in addition to air quality permit modeling. Apply and let me know so I can try and put a good word in!http://agency.governmentjobs.com/sc/default.cfm?action=viewJob&jobID=738059&hit_count=yes&headerFooter=1&promo=0&transfer=0&WDDXJobSearchParams=%3CwddxPacket%20version%3D%271%2E0%27%3E%3Cheader%2F%3E%3Cdata%3E%3Cstruct%3E%3Cvar%20name%3D%27CATEGORYID%27%3E%3Cstring%3E-1%3C%2Fstring%3E%3C%2Fvar%3E%3Cvar%20name%3D%27PROMOTIONALJOBS%27%3E%3Cstring%3E0%3C%2Fstring%3E%3C%2Fvar%3E%3Cvar%20name%3D%27TRANSFER%27%3E%3Cstring%3E0%3C%2Fstring%3E%3C%2Fvar%3E%3Cvar%20name%3D%27FIND_KEYWORD%27%3E%3Cstring%3Emeteorology%3C%2Fstring%3E%3C%2Fvar%3E%3C%2Fstruct%3E%3C%2Fdata%3E%3C%2FwddxPacket%3E

I thought I had something lined up when I graduated in December but that fell through. Trying to find something in the Central NC area or I will have to go work for my dads company, which would be OK except that I would not be using my degree and it would be difficult to take in-person interviews for jobs while working for them. How much will it hurt me if I end up working for six months to a year out of my field when I am looking for work?
1/9/2014 6:22:38 PM
had a federal contract and then put in my notice after a month of shutdown (they don't pay contractors retroactively or anything) and took a job in NYC at NYU. Ended up having family health issues develop and thought it best to stay in NC so told them I was going to stay. been looking ever since. anyone know anything in grants/contract management, federal compliance, program/project management let me know... been trying to get my foot in the door at AllScripts, Salix, INC Research, etc. but also applying to university positions, although I'd like to move into private sector.
